A true Portland experience and a potential dream for a GF/DF person like myself, but came up short. Chicken on the waffle was cooked perfectly, but they included a wing with no meat. Red peppers with cashew cheese spread, a flavored waffle, and maple syrup wasn’t quite the combo it could have been. The “French toast” was raisin bread that they sell by the loaf in their fridge. They threw pomegranate seeds on for some color, but it didn’t pair well. Really wanted to like this place. But the tipping after ordering at the counter to then get your own room temp water from a shared jug in a small tin cup and bus your own table when done eating kind of ruined the experience. Looks like they stay busy, but it must be an acquired taste.
This place is by far one of the best places I've ever eaten GF/DF. Everything is so clearly marked, and the variety is terrific. This is one of the only places I've ever been where quality is not sacrificed for the sake of eating safely. I genuinely would prefer to eat the meals here than to eat gluten versions of them! Very delicious and kind staff.
My husband and I went to Bastion for a birthday brunch, and I loved every bite. I had the pickled beet sandwich and was delighted by the bread they used. Oh, and the cashew cream cheese! A great touch. My partner ordered the avocado toast and was similarly pleased. Cannot recommend highly enough.
So delicious!
Everything on the menu looked so good.
My friend and I went two days in a row!
The staff took extra time to go over my specific allergies and made sure what I was ordering was safe for me.
They also have delicious gf bread for sale, with none of the ‘bad stuff’ in it. I bought a loaf, sliced it up, and put it in my freezer- it’s so good.
Definitely give bastion a try.
Stopped in here directly from the airport. Very cute restaurant. Great seating outside comfortable seating inside. Everybody at the restaurant was fantastic. Very friendly and very knowledgeable. This is 100% gluten-free dedicated kitchen. Everything they sell is gluten-free.
Because I trust, but verify, I did use my NIMA sensor on the following dishes - Fried Chicken sandwich, sliced whole grain bread with ghee, and the pumpkin waffles. I also tested the cold brew, coffee and pumpkin seed milk? I'm not really sure what kind of dairy-free creamer I got in my coffee but it was delicious! Lol
100% recommend this place. Loved it and will be back!
Been here a couple times and it's pretty good. Definitely on the healthy side, so don't expect a lot of rich or comfort foods (but you won't leave feeling overly full or bloated either, so that's nice). Friendly staff, cute place (but small; ended up having to sit outside when it was freezing one time). They are also stocked with tons of gf beers you can buy by the can and take to-go.
I first heard about this place via this app. Bastion caught my eye because their reviews are great and they’re located very close to my house. I have celiac disease and was excited when I saw the menu online, everything was gluten free and soy free. We finally went to try it today and it surpassed my expectations. I love that they are owned by a nutritionist and that the menu is seasonal and rotating. The restaurant is in a cute part of the Sellwood neighborhood and has indoor and outdoor dining. It’s important to note that this place does counter service, which I appreciate. I got a drip coffee and the Chicken and Waffles. My partner got the Big Pink Smoothie and a Fried Chicken Sandwich. The Chicken and Waffles dish was absolutely incredible. They slather it with cashew pimento cheez and pickled peppers then drizzle some kind of chimichurri on the plate. I almost didn’t order it when I saw pimento cheese but my disgust quickly shifted into curiosity. I’m so glad that I went for it! It’s probably one of the best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. The flavor combination on the plate was incredible. I never in my life thought I’d eat pimento cheese and maple syrup in the same dish. I sipped on my partners smoothie and it was delightful. The staff was friendly and the customer service was great. We are both eager to eat here again. I also plan to pop in for coffee and GF donuts now that I know it’s in my neighborhood. Look
