This place is not gluten free, not sure WHY it's on here. If you ask what's gf they say they DON'T have gf food.
We came here based on another review but we did not have the same experience. The restaurant itself is very inviting and the staff were friendly. We told the server we were gluten free when we ordered a ham and cheese omelet and breakfast potatoes. We specifically said no toast but when it came out there were 2 pieces of toast on it. She took it back and remade it but it came out very quickly so not sure if it was remade or they just took the toast off. The potatoes were deep fried not sure if they were made in a dedicated fryer or not. I would probably call ahead to find out if the chef is there otherwise I don’t think you’re guaranteed a gluten free entree.
We were staying at Bay Harbor Hotel and hadn't really taken this restaurant as a serious option due to my severe Celiac, what a mistake to assume! In the 2 years post diagnosis this is the first time I've felt confident in eating food not prepared by me in my own kitchen! Chef Joe Garcia was amazing, yes I said Chef as this place isn't pumping out premade bar foods this is real deal amazing food. Literally Chef came to meet us at hostess station and spent 30 minutes talking with us, said he welcomes those with allergies to dine and doesn't want to take the approach of just here's your options...said tell me what you want from menu and I will personally make it and ensure is safe for your restrictions. I am gluten, corn and dairy free. We are here 3xs after that in same weekend and it was simply the best. Diamond in the rough for sure, if you're Celiac and looking for a go to... definitely try this place. Chef even gave us his personal cell # and said anytime we want to come back and want to check if he's there first reach out. Also mentioned he's working on updating the menu and will be adding a complete gluten free menu as he wants to cater to our crowd. We will be going back every chance we get, which is a lot since we live only minutes away. If you go on Sunday's they have a buffet with prime rib carving station, ham carving station, Alaskan crab, shrimp, oysters, tons of sides etc which is mostly safe (shrimp and grits was the only item of concern for me) but just in case Chef even prepared my entire buffet desires so I didn't have to miss out. What a priceless experience as most with Celiac do not get red carpet treatment at restaurants! Chef prepared all my food and personally delivered to my table himself I mean damn. Pretty cool he shared with us that he took the opportunity with me dining there and was able to teach some of his newer staff the importance of non cross contamination, following protocols for allergies etc. We will be back.
