Belvidere Diner

We chose this diner specifically because the find me gluten-free app had them listed and they have a 5 star review. When we got there, the staff was very nice however there is nothing on the menu specifically noted as GF. We ordered eggs and had to skip the home fries and toast. I asked if we could sub French fries but they cook nuggets in the same fryer. Substitutions were an upcharge. 3 people had breakfast here and the bill was $40 with an $8.00 tip. Pretty expensive for just an egg & a cup of coffee. Its not the diners fault its mine for not calling ahead to confirm. Based off of this app, I assumed it would be a safe bet but I lost this round and learned a lesson.

Worst experience ever. Asked if they had GF was told they could do most menu when I told waitress we were GF she said we could only have pancakes she didn't even want to ask anyone. I would stay,away!! would give less than 1 if I could.

The owners may be gluten free but the wait staff was clueless. When I asked what they could do gluten free the answer was pancakes and pasta, anything else and the waitress had to check each order individually with kitchen. It is never a good sign when the wait staff tells you rice has gluten.

Oh my goodness this place was wonderful! The owner came to the table and told me all the details about what I could and couldn't have and was as nice as can be... She has celiacs and was great! I could even have French onion soup!!!!!! I was in heaven! They did it with mashed potatoes instead of bread and it was divine 😍 we are only here for a weekend, but it's going on my list of places to visit again for sure!!!! Worth the stop! So so good!
