Berkeley Bowl

Fantastic. They carry green plantains for frying up into coins at home sauteeing in avocado oil or way better yet in bacon grease. They also have a packaged salami with no milk products in it. So delicious dairy-free icecream and siete chips also are good finds.

This is the best grocery store ever! Super organic section, GF aisle with lots more GF items around, including frozen GF items (GF waffles, chicken nuggets, Amy's, etc.), & various GF beers. Mariposa bakery has some stuff available in the bakery along w/ some other GF cookies & desserts. Warning: The parking lot usually sucks, the store is always packed, & customers are pretty pushy assholes but the checkout lines are usually great. *But again, the place is amazing so it's worth the parking lot/customer battle royale.

My go-to for gf groceries in the east bay. And the produce is delectable.

Berkeley Bowl is an awesome huge local grocery store with a plethora of amazing gluten-free packaged items. They have frozen, shelf stable, raw, you name it! Your well known brands (Udi's, Glutino's, Enjoy Life) as well as crazy new stuff. Most of it is made in gluten-free facilities and/or certified GF (but of course always check). And, best of all, their exhaustive produce section can't be beat. Local, organic, 6 types of navel oranges? They have it! I prefer this location ("Berkeley Bowl West") for the broader selection, larger aisles, easier parking, and cleaner store, but the original store is also great.
