Went to Black Bear diner (Roseville) for breakfast today.
No celiac menu available,
I ensured my server knew of my celiac and asked this to be communicated to the chef.
Ordered, one of their eggs scramble, after a few bites, started to itch.
I stressed to my server the importance of avoiding cross contamination before ordering.
I would have left if not for his reassurance,
"We serve special diets. I understand."
The food came, couple of bites,
Started feeling sick.
I asked if everything was cleaned before preparing my meal.
He stated,
"I let the cook know, I was not back there watching, hope your itching stops soon.
Fellow Celiacs know,
The, Itch, is one of the least of concerns. 45 minutes have passed, now nauseated,
I was exposed to cross contaimination at Black bear diner.
I would not recommend this diner for Celiac community.
No
I came to black bear diner from out of town. They have bob red mills oats and as long as you tell them about cross contamination they are good about pulling out a separate pan. The fryers are shared and the grill is as well celiac safe I give a 5/10 due to my waitress knowing about celiac but gluten intolerant you would be safe here.

Servers were uninformed and not helpful when asked about gluten free options. The menu offers gf bread on the breakfast menu and a gf salad dressing but no further information on allergens were available.

Tried questioning the waiter on if the omelets were cooked in a shared pan with other gluten ingredients. She didn’t understand me or what I was asking. That should have been my first sign to not order anything. But I really wanted to eat with my family so I got a California cheese omelet with fruit. I even asked her if the bacon was cooked on a grill top near gluten and she said no it was cooked in the oven. I think the veggies in the omelet were cooked near gluten. Not sure but definitely got glutened! Don’t recommend if you have celiac

We had a very knowledgeable waitress and cook. They were very careful with my food to make sure it was gluten free and not cross-contaminated. I am a very sensitive Celiac and there were no issues eating here. Thank you for a great experience!
