Great food! I had the beef taco on a corn tortilla and the chips and salsa. While the menu didn’t have any gf markings, the server did know what could be done gluten free without having to ask. I didn’t get sick and the food was tasty so I’d call it a win
Server seemed knowledgeable about celiac, but was slightly rude about it when I asked my questions to confirm safety. Also, the ordering process didn’t completely put my mind at ease. However, after receiving the steak fajitas (made with tamari, soy is mentioned on the menu), I enjoyed the meal and had no issues afterwards. The chips are fried in a solely gluten free fryer. But, I didn’t end up having those. Would recommend if you want some Mexican food.
Have now been here three times, all safe. They definitely get it. Lots of choices but make sure to let them know you want the chips from the gf fryer. Bonus points for the waitress telling me the flan is technically gluten free but has a few ingredients that come from facilities that handle wheat. That’s above and beyond!
The server was very knowledgeable and willing to talk to the chef for me. The menu does not note any gf items. The waiter said the safest bet was a bowl so we each got the machaca bowls. The star though was the ceviche. It was the best we have ever had. They also brought us chips from a dedicated frier. Overall very good experience.
We called in to place an order and the hostess who answered was not sure about the safety of the food. She was willing to find a manager and talk with the kitchen staff, even though they were very busy, who were able to confirm that my daughter’s food would be OK. She is very sensitive and felt great. All of our food was delicious!
My best celiac dining experience yet. The bartender keenly understood celiac disease, to the extent that she brought me my own salsa with my gluten-free-fryer chips to avoid any cross contamination from my friend’s normal-fryer chips. Then they let me take the leftover chips home with me (breakfast!). Pretty sure this place is my personal heaven. Thanks, Carrie!!
My daughter order carnitas from the adult menu and they were delicious. The staff was knowledgeable about celiac and cross contamination. They even brought her out safe chips and dip. The waitress always checked for safety of every item we ordered, even the drinks. She did not get sick and she is very sensitive.
6/20/16 GF chips in a dedicated frier on request. Had the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas (note the shrimp is basted in a beer batter so not GF) The chicken fajitas were awesome and had no reactions. Highly recommend. Their guacamole was great. 4/29/17 Update, the fajitas now use soy sauce in recipe so you must ask special to eliminate and make special it'll take longer but they will accommodate. I Had the beef enchiladas made with layer corn tortillas like a lasagna.....GF and delicious!
Fantastic food. I too had a very knowledgeable server who had a sister with celiac. They also offered fresh chips from the dedicated fryer at neighboring Zinburgers (ate there the next day). Only issue was the server did not bring out the dishes herself, and the plates were mixed up on the table. That isn't very reassuring to a celiac.
Seriously good food. Server was VERY knowledgeable, and my guest (not gfree) tried a bunch of stuff, and while I thought I'd be limited on choices per another review, I was shocked at everything I could eat!!! Tacos galore, and they even made me a crisp (normally on flour tortilla) on a corn one. The manager even walked next door to fry me chips because their other restaurant next door has a gf dedicated fryer. Talk about great hospitality and customer service!!!Yay blanco and great servers!! Can't wait to go back!!
Be Careful! I read such good reviews about Blanco Taco and Tequila in Scottsdale I couldn't wait to try the restaurant on Camelback in Phoenix. I called ahead and spoke to the owner or manager - Matt. He assured me he could take care of me and I could safely eat there. I get there and the waitress brings me the allergen list. They don't have a gluten free menu. She tells me I can have the pork tacos. I asked her about the garlic in it because I don't like garlic. She goes to ask Matt, he comes over to the table and tells me the allergen sheet is wrong and the pork is made with beer. He then tells me he also owns another safer restaurant a couple of stores over and that I would be safer eating there. My family ordered Mexican. I ordered a salad from the other place which was delivered to my table in Blanco. I wanted a meal not a salad. I hated the salad and left hungry. Matt never should have told me that I could eat safely at Blanco if it wasn't true. He said I can make you something but you can't have the marinades and the flavor will be terrible. He felt I would be safer eating at his other restaurant. Stay away. Very disappointing experience.
