EDIT.....THEY NO LONGER HAVE GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. THE ENTIRE MENU HAS CHANGED. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
We were visiting the area and this restaurant was recommended by a local group. Most of the menu can be made gluten free. They have dedicated gluten free fryers. My sons both have Celiac. They ordered a HUGE fried chicken sandwich, fries, and the flourless chocolate torte for dessert. We loved the entire experience. Highly recommend. No reactions and felt really confident in their knowledge of cross contamination. Also, they do NOT upcharge for gluten free.
Sadly this used to be the BEST place to eat gluten free in the city but they’ve completely changed their menu to solely pizza and no longer prioritize the gluten free aspect of the restaurant. Hopefully it will go back to how it was, otherwise would just go for the cider.
Brick River used to (as of last month) have one of the best gluten-free menus. Went back today and was sorely disappointed. First, they axed almost everything on the menu. Second, everything was “pre-made” and STALE. The pizza was not good. The gluten-free donuts were inedible. Honestly I want a refund as I feel mislead by how great the menu was before today.
Love the ciders, but I can buy those at the liquor store. I won’t be back if the menu stays this way. There are much better options in the crossroads.
Options have changed and will be changed for the foreseeable future. Pizza was a frozen against the grain pizza. We didn't try anything else because I was worried about their safe handling practices after watching the kitchen staff even though the bartender assured GF was all in a separate area.
Went here after seeing the reviews on the app. Cider was good. Service very good, but they were running a very limited menu which turned out to be overpriced frozen pizzas. They recently lost all of their kitchen staff, but, still?? I was so looking forward to a fried chicken sandwich.
So many options. No shared fryers. Very knowledgeable staff.
Hung out here for cider and GF food before catching a flight out of KC. Saw on their menu that their whole menu could be made GF but what we didn’t know is there’s no gluten prepared on prem. If you’re not GF and want a regular bun (I can’t blame you there) they have prepackaged buns made off site so there’s no cross contamination. We had the wings (a bit spicy) and the Spinach dip but wanted to try even more. They do also have beer on tap if cider isn’t your thing. We will be back!
We loved this place. We really appreciated the variety of delicious gf food at affordable prices. We had the gf Texas flatbread, deviled egg combo plate, chicken and waffles, and roasted Brussel sprouts. The flatbread had a pleasantly chewy crust that was just the right thickness so as to be not overly carb heavy. (Note: It liked to be like it may be made with some corn polenta if you can’t have corn). The deviled eggs with the bbq pulled pork on top were really delicious. Chicken and waffles were a welcome treat although chicken was considerably over cooked and fried to nearly burnt. Those flavors and textures compliment each other. As another reviewer noted, the roasted brussel sprouts are undercooked and largely flavorless since they don’t get the nice carmelization. Although everything about the food wasn’t exactly perfect, we still enjoyed it and highly recommend.
For drinks the ciders do not disappoint. I had a flight and they were all good. My favorite was Seret Lou’s. My husband had the non-alcoholic apple soda which tasted like a sweetened apple juice to me but was pleasantly refreshing and came with a free refill.
Awesome atmosphere. Open space inside with tables, a little covered porch overlooking the street, and some causal seating for gathering. You seat yourself and order at the bar, but the place still has a slightly elevated feel while being casual and easy. The ordering a full meal and paying at the bar was a little awkward, but fine.
Really nice experience in the arts district and seemed more family-friendly than many of the other places in the area.
Soooo glad this restaurant exists! I tried it while visiting Kansas City. The staff is super knowledgeable about Celiac and they have a separate fryer and use all gluten free ingredients when gluten free us requested. I ordered the chicken and waffles and one of their flatbreads. Did not get glutened and it was a great experience!
Dedicated GF fryer and knowledgeable staff! Not only does this cidery and restaurant have gluten-free items on the menu in addition to non-GF items, the entire menu can be made gluten-free and they DO have a dedicated fryer! The staff is knowledgeable about celiac disease and very accommodating.
My sister loved her Chicken and Waffles, which is actually one of the menu items that is ALWAYS gluten-free. And we shared a flatbread that we requested to be modified to GF and it was very tasty. I love their friends fries. They’re crisp and well-seasoned and I know they’re safe for celiacs thanks to the staff’s knowledge of contaminants and the fact that they have a separate fryer.
It’s nice to be able to go to a beer bar with friends and know that there are a ton of ciders to choose from. I’m not sure if their are any gluten-free beers, but the beer and cider menu can be found on untapped.
I’ve also tried the deviled eggs, the burger, Portabella grill sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, and flourless chocolate torte and they’re all delicious. The only menu item I don’t care for are the Brussels sprouts. They serve a HUGE portion, but to me they are under cooked and too crunchy. I wish they were more charred and a little softer.
There whole menu can be accommodated to be gluten free! I had the pulled pork sandwich with the gluten free bun and it was very good! I told the lady that I had celiacs and she understood right away. She also called back to the kitchen to let them know it I had celiacs as well as marking it on my order!
The entire menu can be made gluten free. I had fish and chips and wings (fried food gf heaven). The cider is delicious too!
