Waiter was very helpful with navigating the menu and explained that many of the dishes (as long as not fried) can be made gluten free. Brought special gluten free chips for the table. I ordered the “cholo” corn cob, short rib “double stack” tacos & blackened salmon tacos and didn’t get sick
We had a wonderful girls night at Burro Bar. The chips are in a shared fryer but they said they had a batch of gf celiac safe chips (tough to trust but I didn’t feel sick) so we got the queso dip. And then I got steak fajitas which were INCREDIBLE. they seem knowledgeable about celiac (sad almost everything can be modified for gf) so it had no fried onion garnish and of course corn tortillas. Truly delicious and yummy spicy margs
Tried to go to Burro Bar for brunch with non celiac friends. Server understood what celiac is but told me in no uncertain terms that because it’s the “busiest time” so to get dishes out as quickly as they can they do not have designated areas and therefore compromise on making it safe for everyone to eat. Extremely disappointed and will not be returning as there is no consideration for celiacs.
I ordered takeout here, and the app has a special marker for allergies and then even had a selection for “cross contamination okay” vs “cross contamination not okay.” Their menu itself isn’t marked, but I took my chances ordering online since I heard that most items could be prepared gluten free. I got tacos, chips, and octopus.
Someone from the restaurant called me and informed me that the chips were not safe for me, but that the rest of my meal was. I was so thankful this restaurant is on top of allergies! And the food is delicious. Large portions and really unique tasting.
They were awesome here! I ordered something I thought would be safe (enchiladas) and the waiter went to check with the kitchen. The manager came out and told me that they fry them for a few seconds in the fryer (not a dedicated fryer) so it isn’t safe for someone with celiac. His sister has celiac disease so he knew what he was talking about too! He helped me navigate the menu and said which tacos I could do. For chicken, only had fried chicken tacos but he said they could do grilled and grill everything on separate pans! I got 2 chicken and one with chorizo and an egg on it and it was DELICIOUS. Loved it there and will for sure go back! Margs were awesome too. Avoid chips! They are fried in their fryer.
I asked my waiter what could be made gluten free and he explained the entire menu to me and what could be made safely without cross contamination. I got the chicken enchiladas and they were delicious! Unfortunately there were no gf chips the night I went, but other than that everything was great!
I told the waiter that I had celiac and asked what was GF. I was told almost the whole menu can be made GF, even the pork tacos they could swap a flour tortilla for a corn tortilla. They brought GF chips and asked if I was sensitive to cross contamination. We got the nachos, guacamole and guacamole with mango and the cholo corn- all delicious and I did not get sick! The margaritas are amazing too!
The staff was very knowledgeable and accommodating to celiac! They asked if there were any problems with cross contamination in the fryer and when I said yes, they offered alternatives for their chips and tortillas! They would announce every time they replenished the chips they were gluten free and my entree items as well.
I'm genuinely impressed with how this restaurant handled my gluten free meal - a mistake by the waiter illuminated how knowledgeable the staff are. When I mentioned I had celiac, the waiter filled out an allergy card to tag my orders. GF chips came out in a distinct container so I always knew which on the table were GF or non-GF.
The waiter actually made an oversight when recommending something on the menu (unbeknownst to him, corn tortillas for the enchiladas are briefly dipped in the non-GF frier to soften them up), but the person delivering the food announced this fact and asked to make sure I was OK with a GF meal with the potential for cross-contamination. When I said I wasn't, they were apologetic and immediately brought out a suitable GF meal. It's wonderful to eat at a place like this that has as robust a system as this to catch mistakes.
My appetizer and meal were tasty, the drinks were great, and I didn't get sick.
