Just took my celiac daughter a few days ago and had an amazing experience. We were told the owner has celiac so the kitchen staff is well trained on the risk of cross contamination. The server told us they have 3 separate fryers in the kitchen - one for seafood, one for gluten and one for gluten free items. We had a wonderful appetizer called General Tso's cauliflower which had even the vegetable skeptics at the table fighting over the last bits. My daughter had a gluten free crab cake and french fries (from the dedicated fryer) and had no reaction. We almost went back the next night since there were so many choices!
I ate here 4 nights ago and did not get sick,and I am very sensitive to cross contamination. They have a separate GF menu. My food was delicious.
Just opened last week and seems like a really good option and, best of all, got carryout last night and didn't get glutened! They have an allergy prep area, a manager handles allergy food, and a dedicated fryer. They also have some Paleo and vegetarian options. I had the knife and fork burger and a few bites of my husband's risotto and had no problem!
Saying I love Burton’s is an understatement. This is the ONLY place I can go without having anxiety for any type of cross contamination. Their service is seriously amazing. One of a kind. Food is insane and drinks are great. This is a must visit.
The staff and kitchen are trained and they have a computer that actually will alert them if dairy or gluten is present. We are gluten/dairy free with celiac and actually booked our vacation around this restaurant. We can have crab cakes! They have a separate full menu of choices!
Ate here twice while on vacation at the Isle Of Palms. I can't say enough good things about the place. First question the hostess asked is if we needed gluten free menus. Wait staff was very knowledgeable about the menu items. The manager came by to explain how the food is handled that there is a separate area for gluten free food prep. The food was delicious. The customer service was outstanding. The whole experience was amazing.
Didn’t give it a 5 star because they messed up kn my order. I ordered salmon, “the waiter asked how I wanted it have it cooked . I responded well done. At the end I got grilled shrimp and the big size of course more money, however it was good. Got the dessert on the house chocolate cake gluten free which was beyond amazing.
Love this place. Dedication kitchen space and fryer. Love to come sit at the bar and order food while we watch whatever game is on. Staff is really friendly and I always feel well taken care of by them. So used to going out to eat and feeling super nervous and timid about ordering but they make you feel right at home here.
They truly take allergies seriously here. When we walked in they immediately asked if we needed a gluten free menu and while placing the order the server asked if we had any allergies. Managers brought out my meal and explained that all gluten free items are brought out on a square plate by a manager. After reading other reviews we decided to try the General Tso’s Cauliflower and it was amazing!! I also had the Lobster Shrimp Pasta which was very yummy.
The gluten free menu is AMAZING. Usually GF options are just stripped-down versions of regular menu items...but not at Burton’s! The GF choices are real dishes with GF ingredients substituted so you don’t feel deprived. Options include a fried fish sandwich, fries (regular and sweet potato), crab cakes and fish topped with crab stuffing! There are also many DF options and accommodations available. The food was amazing and, most importantly, it was responsibly prepared and served - my dish was brought out by the manager, who confirmed it was GF. I will definitely be a regular!
By far my favorite restaurant. Very good for celiac and gluten free diners. Staff is highly educated and they have a very wide selection. Almost everything on the kids menu could be made gluten free and there were numerous options on the normal menu. They also offer gluten free dessert. A manager will also bring your gluten free food out to be sure everything was prepared properly. Aside from the gluten free part, the restarting is inviting and is located in a very nice location.
Great choice for celiac. I was offered a gluten free menu at the host station before I asked for one, which was extensive and had lots of choices. They brought me gluten free bread and brought regular bread for the rest of my table on a separate plate. All of my GF food came on square plates which separated it from the rest. And the food was overall really good. Really good experience.
Truly an outstanding restaurant. If I could rate it higher than 5 stars I would, it’s that impressive. They take food allergies VERY seriously, more than any other restaurant I have ever frequented. The best part is that their number of GF options is tremendous, the food is beyond excellent, and this place is not to be missed!
I have a wheat sensitivity and avoid dairy as much as possible so, I always ask for the gluten free menu at restaurants but, I was surprised when they had a bonus paleo section. The staff was attentive and careful when handling my food. Totally recommend Burtons. Yours truly, Happy with a full tummy :)

Excellent food with a number of choices. Our waiter asked if anyone had any food restrictions or allergies right when introducing himself. My daughter was diagnosed with Celiac about 6 months ago, and is still struggling with being awkward around identifying it when we are out. This made her feel very comfortable
Excellent gluten free menu with many options. When my niece ordered an appetizer "for the table," I was impressed that the server asked if we would like it made gluten free too! My family said yes so I could share it too, and it was excellent! Wonderful service and wonderful food!
Everything was amazing about this place other than the fact it was a bit pricey. Staff was VERY knowledgeable and understanding and food was great. Best meal I’ve had I a while.
very good food but is very pricey. i love their gf calamari. :) Weve come a few times. im allergic to soy also. one time the risotto bothered me but another time I was ok. always tastes great
From the second you arrive you are in gluten safe zone. They ask if you want gluten free menu. When you go to order they ask if there are allergies and explain they are an allergy safe restaurant. When you say celiac and order they say your order will be on square plate and delivered by a manager to know your food is safe. And the food is yummy! Cauliflower and zuchinini appetizers are so yummy. Fryers are all gf can’t wait to come back.
Fantastic experience- perfect for gluten free/allergy friendly dining without feeling awkward/uncomfortable- perfect for business meals or dating- the new Burton's in Shrewsbury knocks it out of the park with a great atmosphere and excellent service. Variety of menu options with a from scratch kitchen that can handle almost any request- they also have a dedicated gluten free fryer so sweet potato fries are a tasty and safe option!!!
Burton's is the best GF friendly restaurant in CT. Just about everything on the menu can come GF. The staff is very knowledgeable and GF orders come on a square plate, while non-GF gets a round plate. The fried calamari is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.
Well that sucked. Read the reviews here. Asked for a manager beforehand. Eric/alex the manager said absolutely safe here. I explained this is a serious disease. I will react to cross contamination. He assured me he would take care of it. Sat down, waitress came over said you have an allergy I said well yes I guess it’s celiac disease and need to take extra precaution with cross contamination. She left the table and sent another waiter over. Don’t worry we have this this is Burton grill. Ok great I’ll have a Tito’s no lime with sparking bottle water. Glass arrives with lime. Can we have a glass for our water. Sure thing. Would you like to order now. Sure, I’m going to make this easy I say, I’ll have the MLT burger, with out broccoli is there anything else I can have with that. Oh yes he says there are only 3 things here you can’t have. You can have all the fries. Really I say none of them have been cooked in the same fryer as gluten foods. No not at all you can eat any of them. Wow that’s great. 40 minutes later our food arrives, ( still no water) a burned burger with broccoli. At that point I said are you kidding if you can’t get a no lime correct, not bring a water glass, and put broccoli instead of fries I’m thinking you can’t prevent cross contamination. No trust that you can get this right and I won’t be sick for two weeks. If you can’t do it just say you can’t do it. Headed back to my hotel to eat my safe food. And share this review with my celiac group that reaches over 800 people. Shame on you Burton Grill Shame on the waitress, the waiter and the manager for not doing their job to make sure the plate was safe.
