Literally had tables served and fed before we got our food. No concept of gluten free. If a negative stars were allowed as a rating, I’d give it a minus 5.

Very few GF options and service was horrible in an empty restaurant.

Had decent reviews in here so I thought I’d give it a go. Sat down and told the server I was celiac and she said there was only 1 or 2 things on the menu I could have and they were out of one them. Not a separate kitchen space. We didn’t feel safe and left. I appreciated the honesty from the server

Ordered the gluten free vegan pancakes and had a very bad celiac day. Would NOT recommend. It was especially bad when these pancakes were specifically on the menu as GF and Vegan.

We actually stumbled apron this place by accident. And it was some of the best food we had. They had lots of GF and DF foods clearly marked on the menu. Pizza was sooo good and had very fresh ingredients. Overall 10/10.

Very good. Lots of vegetarian, vegan and GF options. Clearly marked menu. Be aware that it doesn’t actually open at 8am. Today (a Saturday) it was more like 8:45.

Best pancakes I have ever had! The waiter was super confident that the pancakes were 100% GF. He told us they were made with gluten free banana flour!

I would give 0 stars if I could. We went for dinner. I ordered the pasta primavera and my boyfriend got the seafood mofongo. It was 1.5 hours for the food to come out and it was HORRIBLE. There was very limited serving staff and obvious issues in the kitchen. My pasta was undercooked. Very little flavor. My boyfriend couldn’t eat his mofongo, it had no flavor was very pungent seafood smell. No sauce. When we offered complaints, they gave us 15% off and were very rude! That’s it! We paid $40 at cafe Berlin to have to return to the hotel for a real dinner dinner.
Definitely safe eating here. I had gluten free pancakes. Giving it a 3 stars though bc I really didn’t like the pancakes, they tasted like pure sugar and the consistency stuck to your teeth. But this is a safe place and maybe the rest of the menu is good!
Do not recommend. Staff served me GF food covered with a gluten-based sauce. I inquired about the sauce & only then did they apologize. Had already waited a long time, now had to sit hungry watching my friend eat gluten. Some staff members were knowledgeable, others knew noting, & I was served by several different people who did not communicate with each other - my needs were not passed on.
In addition, I was given a menu with tons of GF breakfast options, only to be told after ordering that breakfast ends at 3 pm (again, not noted on menu). The rest of the day’s options were very sparse, especially for a vegetarian (I was offered hummus for dinner!!) and the prices for simple dishes were unreasonably high: $21+ for things like pasta primavera or a plate full of tofu.
Bottom line, mixed messages, poor choices and disappointing.

Staff was very knowledgeable about celiac disease. There’s only two options - pancakes or pasta - but both were very tasty and more importantly, completely safe! The atmosphere is also very cute and their drinks are delicious!
Yes
The hummus with GF pita was good. They were out of the pasta which sounded amazing, but didn’t get to try it
I had the gluten free pancakes. I asked for the topping on the regular pancake instead of the fruit it was so good! Peaches cooked in butter & liquor and marscapone cheese spread! Yum!
Waitress was very knowledgeable about preparing gluten free pancakes and convey to the chef. And they were delicious!! Ask for Claudia when you go...
Yes
Not celiac friendly, not willing to accommodate, only 2 options. Very disappointed
They were out of pretty much everything. No gluten-free breads or pitas. They were also out of half of the rest of the menu. The salmon was good. It’s just hard to pay $23 for a lunch entree which is just salmon and three fried plantain slices. The meal was supposed to come with sides of rice and beans and mofongo but three were out of those too.
It also took a really long time. Like an hour to get our food from when we walked in.
I ordered the old Gluten Free San Juan Breakfast: 2 eggs your way, choice of bacon ham or applewood sausage, potatoes, small pancake, gf pita bread and guava butter. I could have just eaten the gf pita bread and guava butter all day AMAZING!!! I ate the pancake plain bc it was caremlized and so delicious. The entire meal was satisfying, filing and fresh. Also I had fresh black coffee which was amazing! I wish there was a cafe Berlin at home!! So nice to eat gf when traveling and be safe.

Ate here twice on our vacation. our first waitress (Amanda) is gluten-free as well so I was in good hands! For dinner I had the gluten free pasta! It was fantastic. Another day we had brunch and I had the gluten-free pancakes.......AMAZING!!!!!! I had no reaction to either meal and the food was delicious. HIGHLY recommend.

So many gluten free options! The banana pancakes were incredible. Ask for Amanda to be your server - she is also gluten free and can take great care of all your allergies!
Yes
Great experience! Had their gf banana pancakes eggs and bacon for breakfast and it was amazing! Staff was very knowledgeable. However, limited gf options, but few options were delicious! Went back for dinner another night and enjoyed a gf pasta dish, tasty!

This was my favorite place in all of San Juan. The Tequila shrimp gluten free pasta was fantastic!!! I went back 3 days during my stay. The strawberry mojito's are fabulous. Wilson was our waiter and he was the best!! I definite suggest this as a stop on your visit to Old San Juan.

The food was good. I had the gf banana pancakes, which were yummy. Also, got fruit and scrambled egg whites with pico de gallo (like chunky, fresh salsa). Mango mimosa was another nice addition. However, service was terrible. It took the waiter 10 minutes to get to us after we were seated, everything took a long time, and the bill was so long in coming, we wondered if they really wanted us to pay. It was our first day, so we wrote it off as island time, but literally every place since then was much faster.

Cafe Berlin, started serving Gluten Free Pancakes for brunch. It's was not great, however, they are making an effort. The waitress told me that are workings on a GF menu! Everything else was delicious! I hope that I'm going back to PR their menu is completed.
We happened upon this adorable little bistro while sight seeing in Old San Juan, and were ecstatic to discover that they offer gluten free pasta, pizza and pita bread options. They also have vegan cheese and vegetarian options, as well as a variety of other menu options that can be made gluten free.
Gluten freekin' good pita and pizza breads! It's not easy to find restaurants in Puerto Rico that know what gluten free is, but this place has plenty of options that are delicious and healthy. Plus I got to see a fun celebration in the adjacent square. I will be back!

I was excited about this place seeing as though they had GF pizza and pasta on the menu. The waiter was very friendly, but had no training on gluten-containing ingredients. He told us the Portobello appetizer was safe, but when we asked if there was soy sauce, he said yes. He also suggested an entree with soy sauce after we told him we couldn't have that. Whatever we ordered was not their specialty...the mashed potatoes were cold. They did have a delicious zucchini, mint, and lime juice.
