On carnival legend- not many options besides in the main dining room (truffles) where they can make almost anything on the menu gluten free. however in the main dining room anyone with food restrictions needs to notify the staff in advance, as they need a days notice to have everything prepped (they’ll ask everything you are sensitive to in your diet and will accommodate the best they can). the gf chocolate cake is amazing!

guys burger joint offers a gluten free bun, but when i asked for no bun at all they first put a normal bun… then a GF bun… then removed the bun all together and topped it with shredded lettuce. 2/3 employees changed gloves when i asked them to. the fries themselves are gluten free if you get them without seasoning BUT they are fried in a SHARED FRYER with battered onion rings and seasoned fries. they also use a shared grill and spatula. food from here went directly to my non celiac boyfriend🥲

they also have gluten free options at the buffet, however most of them are right next to gluten containing items so that’s a no go for me

also there is no way on the HUB app to mark that something needs to be gluten free for room service, so pack lots of snacks for late night cravings!

I love getting back on a ship and everyone was extremely kind.

What took away from my joy was the Gluten Free options The bread is the worst and there is nothing I could do to improve it. I asked for GF pizza at the Pizza Spot on the Lido and was told they did not make GF pizza. Guy's burger made me a GF burger but it took so long the rest of my party had finished and waited with me for my order.

I expect to have to search for food I feel safe eating but when it is advertised, I expect it to be available.

Gluten Intolerant

Despite the blog posts touting how great it is to be GF on a carnival cruise, my experiences onboard were dismal. No food staff member at any point understood what I was asking for when I said gluten free. They looked at me like I had two heads. I will note that I hate the two hour dining experience at the MDR and try to avoid eating there. Maybe if you're super into spending half your day waiting for a seated meal three times a day, you get a great GF experience. I don't know. What I can say for certain is that the staff at the lido buffet, guys burger, and pizza counter had no idea what gluten free was. After a couple days of this, I asked to speak to the buffet maitre d. They took about 20 mins to find him. Once he was found, he knew what gluten free was and said they could make me a gf pizza in about 30 mins. So about an hour later of sitting there waiting, they presented me with the most horrific creation anyone's ever seen. It was a soggy, spongey nightmare. Literally the center was soaking wet goo. Also the cake that had a gf label on the dessert buffet made me very sick. Bring your own food and snacks, don't trust anything carnival labels or promises.

The gluten free options were pitiful at best. The pizza crust? Made out of a cornbread like material. The one time there was gluten free cake available? Also made out of a cornbread like material. The toast? You guessed it, cornbread like material. I repeatedly asked for gluten free options, and was told there were none on board that day. Their allergen finding app would say there was nothing available gluten free, there was little knowledge of cross contamination, and the food quality was terrible, and would take extra time.

Best cruise *ever*!!! Carnival Horizon Sept 4, 2021 crew went above & beyond to ensure I had safe meals (Celiac & Dairy allergy). - Before cruise I emailed my dietary needs to Carnival Special Services desk; they alerted the ship in advance. - Then when I got onboard 1st day, I went directly to Dining Services desk and the crew there were very helpful. . - Provided me with lunch options for that day, introduced me to Executive Chef & MDR Chef (Main Dining Room) who took down my order for dinner that night & breakfast the next morning. This was an ongoing theme throughout the 8 night cruise. Crew was always asking what I enjoyed and what I would like, they truly cared! - Only dining area I didn't prefer was the Blue Iguana, yet that was personal preference as I'm accustomed to quality Mom & Pop authentic Mexican near my home. It wasn't bad, just not up to local taqueria near home. - Gluten free/dairy free, *prepped and cooked separately* pizza, sushi, Italian, 555 Farenheight Steakhouse, Tepanyaki, BBQ, Deli sandwiches, Lido Buffet, even breakfast room service one morning, and coffee (decaf) dairy free mocha at Coffee Bar! So spoiled... 🥳 -Ate so well, thought I would burst! This was my first cruise since Celiac & dairy allergy diagnosis, so I was very nervous. Should not have been, Carnival Horizon crew is the best!!!

Great experience. If you eat in the main dining room, you order the night before and they take care of you. Even the nights I had to order on the spot, I had no issues. There was always an option. On the lido deck, you can order gluten free pasta, gluten free burgers, gluten free sandwiches, french fries, tacos with corn tortillas, salad bar. The chef will also prepare you something if you ask. Each day they have a gluten free dessert that you can request and 24-7 soft serve. Room service also offers gluten free sandwiches. You won’t go hungry, just ask! The only thing I would change is for them to mark allergens at the buffet so passengers can make educated choices, but I avoided the buffet since it was often fried foods.

Just arriving off of an 8 day cruise and they were FANTASTIC! I was worried about going on a cruise (first one since being diagnosed with celiac) but they were amazing at accommodating me. The wait staff took care to ensure everything was gluten free. My dinner and breakfast orders were taken the day before and prepared separately. I did not get sick even once. This was a fabulous experience.

I thought it would be a challenge the first day.. But I went to the Matre D as soon as I got on the ship and I was able to order dinner for that evening. They had gluten-free bread, pizza and burgers available. the bread is not the best I have had. But it was available. score.. They prepare the .gluten-free dishes in a separate area. The only drawback is you have to order the night before.
