Not Mexican in Highlands Ranch My husband and I decided to try this place because it had gluten free. We came in and saw the gluten-free menu. My husband asked for the gluten free menu and the hostess said “we don’t have one”. 17 minutes after being sat down our waitress came by wanting to take our drink and food order. (Side note) She was obviously training, was super sweet and did her best. Although we did get forgotten about. The chips are fried in the same frier as everything else. The waitress grabbed the menu my husband pointed at for gluten free. He ordered the boneless wings and tostada. The wings were fried in oil that turned everything dark and tasted bad. His tostada had such a bad flavor that he couldn’t eat it. Mind you, this is a man who will eat pretty much anything. He sent his food back. Decided try a basic chicken and cheese only quesadilla. When it came out, it was not from the “fresh made tortilla maker” but greasy chicken with peppers, onion and cheese. Personally I had the tamales with black beans (couldn’t eat anything else because of cross contamination.) Never in my life have I had liquid smoke in black beans. The rice was so dry when I dropped an ice cube it absorbed quickly. The “gluten free” is not. It’s cross contaminated. I’m in bloating pain. If your going to say “gluten free” it needs to be “gluten free” not cross contaminated. Horrible!!!!! I didn’t even try the chips or anything because everything is fried in the same frier. Later finding out they “filter their fry oil every other day”. The poor server knew it was bad and the “manager” was rude. We don’t complain we are foodies who just enjoy eating out. Worst experience ever…adding the country music in the background. Tortilla making machine shown pictures, well it is sitting at the front of the restaurant NOT being used. Skye, go be a server somewhere else. You did a great job and a sweetheart, you deserve better.
We sat down and were handed a small laminated card with a list of gluten-free items (mostly salad things), but the same card listed the NON-GF items which included all the meats. When the waitress brought out the impressive array of chips and salsas, I asked if they were gluten-free. Impatiently, she said, "Not the chips, but the salsa is." "Oh," I thought, "Then, may I have a spoon?" If they don't have a dedicated fryer for chips, I figure they aren't too hip on cross-contamination issues. We left and went to Salsa Brava which was outstanding and properly gluten-free.
Met the manager, who offered a variety of gluten-free entrees. Had the green chili with pork - excellent and SPICY! Downside was that all other meat contained gluten (seasoning used). Lots of choices and modifications. Suggestion: mention gluten allergy when ordering. Will go back!
