I don't recommend this restaurant for people who are celiac or gluten intolerant. I went here in the past but they had a different menu. It had more for persons who eat gluten free. This night I was handed the gluten free menu, however the waitress asked me if I would get sick from cross contamination. Apparently, they use a share fryer. I am so tired of restaurants saying they are gluten free when they have a shared fryer. That makes the menu not gluten free. As for me, I left the restaurant and went somewhere else.
A vegan tapas place is a great idea, but the key to tapas is to make the small plates affordable so diners don’t leave hungry. My date and I each spent $60 and were hungry afterward. We split some olives and grapes ($12), she got a teeny salad ($12), I got a single tamale ($16), we each got a $15 cocktail, and for dessert I got sorbet ($10 and I am pretty sure it’s Talenti) and she got a mint chocolate milkshake ($12). The food was delicious and the cocktails sounded creative and fun, but the portions were very small for the price and my cocktail mostly tasted like bourbon. Not too impressive.
As for the celiac-friendliness of the place, I don’t recommend it. I ordered off the gluten free menu and communicated very clearly to my server that I have celiac disease and needed the kitchen staff to use separate surfaces, but he told me that they couldn’t fully prevent cross contamination. Usually that’s a legal disclaimer and places can avoid it, but he seemed to be saying that as a way of letting me know that they wouldn’t take precautions, because I got very sick. I believe that the pepitas on my tamale may have been cross contaminated.
It doesn’t seem that celiacs can dine safely here. I am really over restaurants with gf menus who seem uninterested in or pretend to be incapable of accommodating people with celiac. We’re not just a consumer market.
Cool aesthetic. Service was great! They even have a separate gluten-free menu, and they ask about food allergies. My girlfriend and I got the ricotta with crudités, ramen, cauliflower “steak”, and “scallop” escabeche. I will say that the last two dishes tasted nothing like steak or scallops, but everything tasted very good. I had no reaction afterwards. A quick heads up — the server recommended 2-3 dishes per guest; I’d recommend 1-2 dishes per guest. We were super full afterwards!
All of their GF items are clearly marked on the menu and they can even sub some items with gluten free options (swap bread for crudite) - they’re 100% vegan
So yummy! Everything is vegan. There is a separate gluten-free menu
Exceptional food - very fresh and flavorful. They have separate gluten free menu with a nice variety of selections including several desserts. Everything is vegan which is amazing how good it is. You will not miss the animal! Very cozy, hip vibe. I highly recommend. If I lived in the area, this would be a regular stop for me.
I really enjoyed this place the gf menu is limited but j also dont eat pork so for me the drinks were good. Did not eat anything.
