Chef Bob is fantastic! Super personable, and he really cares. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The smoke and fried dirty chicken with the Bob Twang sauce was our group favorite!

I cannot say enough good things about this place! 90% of the menu is GF, dairy free, but tastes like there is absolutely no way it could be! We would’ve loved ALL of the fried foods long before we went GF! It’s that good! Bob Charlton (owner) is so friendly and accommodating. Our favorite meal since our daughter’s celiac diagnosis. All of it is delicious. The fish and chips are so good they’ll make you want to cry tears of joy!!!

Food was delicious! Has the moldy Pig burger. Chef Bob is very welcoming, and funny! He visited our table several times, explained how some of the dishes are prepared, seasonings, etc. our waitress, Patty was great and very attentive. The whole experience was fun and wonderful. Will be back for the dirty chicken!

UPDATE: since I wrote my original review, I had a conversation with the owner, and I've eaten there and gotten takeout from there multiple times. I think what happened on my first visit was a fluke. I do recommend them now, for sure.
*************
Avoid this place at all costs. Wanted to order some wings, was told that they have a dedicated fryer, and then they went back to double check, and came back and said that it had been used for gluten-containing items. Why would you advertise that you have a dedicated fryer when it's not? Like, if you have to check that the dedicated fryer is in fact dedicated gf that's a big giant red flag. I would give zero stars if I could.

They have several Gluten free items that are not available elsewhere. French toast and sausage gravy for Sunday Brunch. The gluten free bread was soft and delicious.

I have Hashimoto’s and eat here once a week. If you have a dietary restriction let them know. They have a dedicated fryer, GF buns and will alter a dish for you. Chef Bob is very accommodating and understands because his wife has to be GF. He uses a separate knife, etc.
Check out the GFDF French Toast!
Yes
The owner is Gluten-free, medical but not Celiac so Charlton's is NOT Gluten-Free, they are Gluten-friendly, so some cross-contamination may occur (it is right on the menu and website). Her husband, Chef Bob is a hands-on Chef who often personally prepares the food so, when a person has dietary restrictions he tries to make time to visit the table so he can understand the dietary condition so he can take the necessary precautions to mitigate the risk like using the dedicated fryer (which they have), knife, clean surface, etc.. Yes, he welcomes the request of a diner to visit the table but if busy, it may take a while. The key point, Chef Bob can only accommodate the needs of diners when aware of their needs and cannot take responsibility for information he does not know. For instance, a woman said she was 'Gluten-Free' yet in conversation with Chef Bob, it was identified that she also had issues with dairy and corn so, accommodations were made but imagine the issues had the Chef not talked to this woman.
In may cases, the only difference between regular menu item and Gluten-free is the roll, which is so good it does not taste Gluten-free. All French Fries, Tater Tots and Potato Chips are Gluten-free and crispy. The Chef is very accommodating with his menu and will alter (within reason and time permitting) to meet the needs of those dining. Again, Chef Bob can only accommodate the needs of diners when aware of them and cannot take responsibility for what he does not know.
Charlton's is a neighborhood family restaurant owned and operated by a local family that serves the surrounding neighborhoods. The restaurant is not perfect but they take the time to accommodate the neighbors needs and if they cannot, they will tell you. If you have any questions, you can always call Chef Bob.

Neighborhood bar and grill owned by a knowledgeable and personable chef whose name is on the front door. Way more items are GF on this menu than any other bar and grill I have ever been. He has a deep fryer, and no bread goes in there at all. Wings are great, no breading. Fries and tater tots are safe because the fryer is. No onion rings in the place, know what I mean? Kids liked it a lot, food was great, and even my celiac child was happy and safe. Will be adding this one to our GF restaurant rotation!
