I was invited to an event at this Chelos recently and on our sign up sheet there was a place to state allergies etc. Day of, nothing happened. The employee left to serve the buffet said she knew nothing about it, and was a little annoyed that I asked where the GF items were. The set menu for the event was not what was served.
Avoid if possible or BYO food!

They do have gluten free buns, but I got sick after ordering a burger and fries. I didn’t think the fries were breaded, but it was hard to tell either way because the takeout food was soggy. I’m not going to risk it again.

The gluten free roll is delicious, and they have lots of ways to use it. Grilled chicken, steak sandwich, hamburger, lobster roll... all fabulous. My daughter and I eat the steak fries without issue, too.
I contacted them through their Facebook site because we will be traveling to the Providence area with our family which includes our 12 year old Celiac son. I asked about gluten free options - specifically kid-friendly. Their response was that unfortunately they don't have many gluten free options. They can offer a hot dog or hamburger with no bun plus a side salad and some apple slices. That does not sound very Celiac Friendly to me so we will be eating elsewhere. Needed to pass on the info though because it seems like maybe they used to offer gluten free options but perhaps it was never Celiac Friendly.
No
they knew about gluten free food and were very accommodating
Seems I always give them a second chance when I shouldn't. Between the steak sandwiches that arrive on a hot dog bun when a gluten allergy is specially emphasized, to the desserts that are scooped with a spoon that is shared w other desserts (per the waitress) Chelos always disappoints. And they don't read their comment cards, if they do, they don't care to make changes!!

I have been going here for years since my diagnosis of celiac. I’ve never had a issue with cross contamination. Once they put croutons on a take out sale we called and they corrected it thankfully they are right down the street and we got a new fresh salad. Originally this location didn’t have gluten free bread but a few months prior to the pandemic they started carrying gluten free buns. It’s be awesome to have the option of a gluten free Ruben sandwich right down the street! I’m a sucker for the steak tips salad and chicken Cesar salad!

Ordered a burger with gluten free bun. I was so excited because in my memory Chelo’s had fantastic burgers and I haven’t had one in several years. I was telling a friend at dinner how good the burger was and especially how good the bun was. “I can barely tell it is gluten free”. I learned the reason a few hours later. It wasn’t gf. If you are celiac or extremely sensitive I would recommend double checking your bun - or maybe stick with one of the many fun salads they have on the menu.

The buns and the wraps are Gluten Free. The waitress did ask if I wanted the burger cooked separately to avoid cross contamination, but that is not an issue for me.

Finally tried their gf bun(with steak and cheese), it was very good. Nice and soft! Same kind as similar restaurants in the area. Very pleased will get it again!
