Although they only have one item (soft tortilla shells) with gluten, it alone often cross-contaminates the entire restaurant. Sometimes the serving spoon for rice or meat will touch the shell. They touch the shells with their gloves, and also touch lettuce and shredded cheese with the gloves, cross-contaminating them. Then pieces of them fall into bins of other ingredients, cross-contaminating *them*. I've foolishly been here enough where I've seen it happen. I've also seen them use their cross-contaminated gloves to touch rice and meat to get it all out when it sticks to the serving spoon, contaminating the whole batch.
I realize they're trained to avoid things like this but mistakes happen. I love the food and think it's delicious so I've eaten here a lot and sometimes I haven't been glutened. But sometimes I have, and don't think it's worth the risk. But, one caveat: you'd probably be fine if you use nothing but 100% new ingredients that haven't been touched for anyone else's meal. They're accommodating enough that they may even do that if you explicitly ask. But I personally don't feel comfortable inconveniencing their staff like that and holding up the line for everyone else.

They changed gloves, brought out clean spoons and fresh cheese. I felt very safe!

This was a exceptional Chipotle. I mentioned I had a wheat allergy and they without question changed gloves, serving spoons, and even pulled out a separate cheese and lettuce supply. They even took the time to wipe down the counter to prevent any sort of cross contamination!
Edit: I came back to lower my review from 5 to 4 stars. Basically, this place is hit or miss with when it comes to allergies. It depends on who is serving you. Some of their staff knows what to do and others do not. Thankfully, no one has complained or looked annoyed when I asked them to change gloves or get the cheese from the second container.
Chipotle does not have a gluten free menu but instead has a list of gluten-containing ingredients to avoid. Cross-contamination is a concern, however, so let the person taking your order know that you are gluten free and if you need them to take the proper precautions.
From their website: "If you avoid gluten, don't eat our flour tortillas. If you are highly sensitive to gluten and would like us to change our gloves, just let us know at the start of your order. You should be aware items containing corn, including corn tortillas (chips, soft corn, and crispy corn tortillas) and corn salsa, may have a small amount of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field."
We are unable to avoid getting sick no matter how careful they are with the cleaning of the line.
They try, sometimes. But the fact is if you're sensitive you cannot avoid cross contamination here!!!! They slide burritos down the line all day and while cleaning the line and changing spoons may be enough for some people, but I've not been able to avoid cross contamination here. Decent food, but not worth it.
SO GOOD VEGAN AND GLUTEN FREE I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ❤ all healthy, totally accepting, plus gluten-free chips are so good!! 10 out of 10
It is easy to get a good meal here. They will treat you well.
Best GF fast food experience so far. They didn’t make me feel weird or like I took too much time. I told them I have a gluten allergy and the line stopped. They changed spoons for what I ordered, wiped down the counter, got out fresh cheese and lettuce, changed gloves, and one person took charge of my order seeing it through to the end of the line. I know there’s still a risk, but I’m thankful for all they did to help me eat with my family.

I was a little concerned when I read it had been two years since the last review, but I went and as soon as I told the server I had celiac, she immediately offered to wipe down the surfaces and change gloves. She did it so cheerfully also!

Lots of gluten free options, good choice for catering, and ability to sort through gluten free options by using their dietary filter online. There are good options available if you're dairy free/vegan as well!

While there’s obviously a chance of cross contamination, the workers here are very nice and accommodating. Everything except for the tortillas is gluten free. I always ask them to change their gloves and this past time a worker felt her glove touch the tortillas after changing them so she immediately changed them again! They never have a problem getting lettuce or cheese from the back which I appreciate! I have not had a reaction here yet and I am very sensitive!

I told the server I was gluten sensitive, and she immediately changed gloves and handled all my food herself.
