They aren’t partnering with the person (Jill?) who was providing them with GF pastries as she will be opening up her own restaurant in Truckee soon. They do have 3-4 options though. I tried the waffle with blueberry and thyme compote. It was delicious but my stomach started to feel funny afterwards.
Good coffee and gf donut treats. Staff really friendly and knowledgeable.
The gf items are in a separate case and area from the non. They also explained to me that they cook the gf items in a seperate section of the kitchen.
My mother in law bought me some gf goodies and checked the precautions. So far feeling fine, but will update my reveiw if that changes!
Went to this place after reading all the positive reviews. I unfortunately had a very different experience.
All of the gf pastries are stored directly with the regular pastries. There are bread crumbs all over the counter.
I tried to order something from the back and the waiter told me I would “100% without a doubt get cross contaminated”.
Did not end up eating here. Disappointed with the trendy gluten free advertising.
All of the products in the case are plastic wrapped and the special gluten feee tongs and will gets new pair of requested
Updated review (12/2018) - Visited again and updated my review, moving from 2 stars to 4.
Positives: The GF items now have the case all to themselves, with the other items in a separate area. The server said that the tongs are used for GF items only. We Nima-tested a doughnut hole and got a smile (no gluten), yay!
Negatives:
I wish I didn't feel like I was annoying the counter server by asking about the tongs - there's room for management to do some training here. Still don't love the pasta stirrers (I really don't get this trend - sure, it's Insta friendly, but who wants a starchy latte?); and it'd be great to have more information about the source of the GF items (Whole Treats, I think? but from everything I can tell, that bakery closed a few years ago). Another local business told me that the Whole Treats items are made on-site at Coffeebar in a separate (GF) area of the kitchen (which is great!), but I didn't want to annoy the Coffeebar server further by asking him about it.
Old review:
Not celiac-safe. They do have GF baked goods, but they’re in a case with other offerings and the same tongs are used for everything. PLUS, they offer pasta (!) in lieu of straws, as stirrers. I am no fan of plastic straws but I really hope this does not become a trend.
Great coffee- vanilla almond milk latte was delicious. The GF pumpkin pecan muffin was moist and tasty. Cute atmosphere with plenty of seating. Definitely our new Truckee go to for coffee.
We love Coffeebar. We have been coming here when we vacation for many years. They always have a selection of GF bakery items, and the banana chocolate chip muffin is one of my daughter's favorites. Love that they have a new, larger location, too, with even more GF options.
Awesome selection of GF baked goods! Orange bundt cake is amazing, only downside is no bathroom.
There are two locations. This is for the one on Donner Pass Road--the Coffeebar Bakery. I chose to go here bc they offered a gf vegetable frittata, which I thought would be more hearty. Disappointed to see the server use the same tongs used for all the gluten-containing stuff on the frittata, and that they put in on a display shelf under a bunch of gluten-filled stuff where crumbs could easily cross contaminate. If you are celiac, be wary. Great coffee though!
First place I go to when I'm up in Truckee. They have great almond milk lattes and GF treats. I have celiac so it's nice to come here with friends and have coffee and enjoy a treat.
Tons of yummy breakfast treats that are gluten free! The pumpkin streudel muffin is delicious. The quiche was also gf the day I was there, I don't know if it always is. Just ask the staff, they are super helpful. As a side note, this place has amazing coffee (think Italian coffee bar), and the baristas do some awesome latte art!! Great, fun, laid back atmoshpere.
