I ate here back in October and got insanely sick. Not sure what happened because the waitress was very attentive and went back and forth from the kitchen many times to discuss allergens in the food. Be warned, all the grill items are on a shared grill and there’s no separate fryer, so no meat options are celiac safe. Even after just ordering a very basic salad, I still got very sick.

My wife and I ate here for breakfast this morning. She is not celiac but I am. She had the Protein Breakfast and I had the Pancake platter with blueberries and Peach compote. She like hers and said it was good but not phenomenal. Mine was outstanding and the GF pancakes were wonderful. So good I didn’t use any syrup and just used butter and fruit/compote. The cappuccino was very good (too small), turkey sausage was tasty, and good coffee to go. So far the best breakfast I’ve had in DC. I’m celiac and did NOT get sick. I’d recommend others give this place a try. It is worth the walk from downtown or catch an Uber if you must.

Food was delicious! Staff was great and knew about cross contamination. Menu is clearly labeled. Service was terribly slow!! Very nice waiter but I waited over 45 minutes for a cup of soup and pancakes.

I had a great experience! I told my waiter that I was gluten free and he asked if cross contamination would be an issue, because they would cook my meal in a separate pan rather than a shared grill. I was super happy to hear this! I got the filet medallions and mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I would definitely go back.

Hostess was not nice. Waitress was not attentive at all. The whole table ran out of beverages several times. As for the GF, there are several options. I had the lemon and herb chicken, which was delicious. I also ordered the GF dessert, which not even average. The bananas were bruised and it was supposed to have hot fudge but turned out to be a chocolate syrup. Overall not a great experience.

This is really a 1.5 star review because at least they had the options... but the burger bun was really crumbly and flavorless and the other options for gluten-free were based on eliminating things from the menu items instead of customizing gluten-free dishes.

Amazing service. We sat at the bar for brunch and the bartender was extremely aware of food allergies and cross contamination. When I asked her if the soy milk and syrup were gluten free, she checked both packages and brought them over so I could personally check the ingredients. She made a note for my eggs to be cooked in a separate pan and told me that the gluten free pancakes were cooked in a separate area of the kitchen. Food was very good and would highly recommend this place! Will be back for sure.

So good we went back twice! Food is so delicious and safe! Server asks if anyone has allergies before bringing order to kitchen. Would recommend the breakfast tacos or the pancakes!

I got the breakfast tacos and they were amazing! They also had Udis gluten free buns. Our server was knowledgeable and very friendly. The only downside is that their home fries are cross contaminated but after I started eating the tacos I forgot all about that!

GF markings on the menu and the manager was very helpful walking me through the celiac safe options (i.e. Nothing from their fryer which is shared). They were also able to clearly explain the cross contamination procedures and how they use separate pans/utensils for GF food. I got the roasted chicken and carrots. It was great! Definitely feel safe dining here.

I visited for breakfast at 8am on a Tuesday (at opening) so there was no wait. I let my waitress know I have Celiac and she noted it on my check and double checked with the chef after I ordered. There are a number of items marked gf including pancakes, huevos rancheros, and breakfast tacos. The tacos were delicious! Crispy chorizo, fried egg, guacamole, etc.

This place has such a great local atmosphere to it. The menu clearly states the gluten free options. My wife has Celiac and loved the GF pancakes on the menu. I tried them and couldn’t tell any difference at all. The server is well versed in cross contamination issues. Will definitely visit again when in town.

Commissary takes food restrictions very seriously. They don't list which items are gluten free items on their menu, but many things are gluten free, and many things can be prepared gluten free. The staff can and will answer any questions you have, and if they aren't 100% positive they will go ask the chef. If you let them know that you have celiac, they will also make sure to prepare things on safe surfaces, even where that requires shifting from using a shared grill to using a dedicated pan to fry things. The food is solid. And the genuine concern for the wellbeing of customers, the awesome staff, and the delicious beverages make this an all around excellent place for people who need to avoid gluten. I recommend it highly!

Went here for both dinner and breakfast and both times were great experiences. I have celiac and I'm super sensitive and I was fine both times. There isn't a gluten free menu, but the chefs were knowledgeable and the server made sure to communicate with them. The first night I ordered the salmon and the chef informed me that he would cook it in a separate pan as they use the grill for foods that contain gluten. Aside from working hard to accommodate me, it was some of the best salmon I've ever had. Same experience for breakfast a few days later, bacon and eggs cooked separately. As long as you communicate with the kitchen, which you should do anyway, they'll work to accommodate you. I felt safe eating here and I would return again.

My celiac fiancé, Kevin, and I went to Commissary on recommendation from the concierge at our hotel. When we sat down our server, Nick, came over to ask if we had any questions about the menu. Kevin said that he was celiac and without batting an eye, Nick started through the menu from the top, pointing out items that were naturally gluten free and others that could be made gluten free with substitutions. When Nick told us, without us asking, that the home fries were no good because they were deep fried in contaminated oil, we knew that he knew what he was talking about! (So many places have told us that items are "gluten free" even though they are fried in the same oil as gluten!!)We were very happy with the service and with the food at Commissary. We ate breakfast there 3 days in a row! Kevin had the sundried tomato and goat cheese omelette, huevos rancheros, and breakfast tacos with corn tortillas and was happy with everything and had no reactions. I also enjoyed my gluten-filled eggs benedict, egg and cheese English muffin, and the huevos rancheros, in case you were wondering.
