I mean technically my meal was free to me, but my girlfriend's mom had to pay for this coupon book that got us the free food so here I am to complain on her behalf. Here I go:
I didn't get sick from the food not being gluten free. They did a wonderdul job. BUT, dear Lord I think this was my first experience eating a microwaved chicken wrapped in leafs from a bag they forgot to put on the curb. I don't know how they managed to do it, but they made a worse burrito bowl than me. It's especially insulting considering I'm Irish and never made a meal that involved the use of heat.
In conclusion - Great people, great service, chalky chicken.
Gluten free menu. Don’t eat the tortilla chips, they are fried in same oil as flour containing items. I brought my own and the waiter even brought me s bowl to put them in. Waiter seem knowledgeable
Good food. Knowledgeable chef and and the staff is willing to check with the chef on items that can be made gf. No gf menu, though.
Went there for drinks and appetizers with a group. Asked the server if they had a Gluten-Free menu; answer was no. Asked the server if the tortilla chips were Gluten-Free; answer was no. I didn't eat anything at all with my run of the mill margarita. Their website does not have a Gluten-Free menu, but if you call they say they do have a Gluten-Free menu. None of this inspires confidence. Not worth the risk.
For a hot day, looking for festive dinner location with cold drinks. Mexican always good for gluten free. Cozymel has great decor, we were warmly greeted at door. Our server was friendly, giving genuine feeling of interest in our good time. Complimentary chips and salsa were delicious, table next to us quipping, "I'll never eat my meal, but these chips are good!" Kids portions were huge, but great to see carrots on plate. No gluten free menu, but a lot of GF options. My tacos were delicious, fun desert menu. Margaritas were cold, nothing to write home about, but hit the spot. We will return.
What can I say hard to decipher gluten free list would rather go to Mago anytime list right on there not celiac friendly boo!!!!!!!! Do not go here if you have celiac very very dangerous!!!!
they have a good allergen listing. you need the menu with it to really decifer menu items. staff understands gluten intolleranjce, food is super tasty
One of my favorite mexican places, never greasy, fresh, & unique upscale Mexican.
Barely any options, slow service on a day when they were not remotely crowded. Wouldn't recommend for those who are gluten free. You'll just be jealous about the corn tortilla chips that are brought out that they don't have a gluten free frier for. None of the fried food is an option because of this as well. Not coming back here any time soon.
Almost no options for celiacs unless you want a meatless salad. My 10 year old daughter with celiac had no options there. Although they say they have a GF menu, everything has some type of qualification about it (common fryer, soy sauce based marinade, flour containing broth). Very disappointing.
The waitress we had was extremely knowledgeable about gluten free items and checked with the chef about one of the items when she was not sure. The food tasted good (corn tortillas and black beans, note - the refried beans are not GF) . I would go back again.
2011/10/20 - came to Cozymels for lunch. They had a GF menu with lots of good choices. Server (Irma) made sure every detail was meet, even made sure the chips were freshy cooked to avoid cross contamination. The manger told us her daughter had Celiac disease and followed up to make sure our food meet our needs. Even the chef came out to check. All in all it was a great experience and very good food!
The kitchen manager here is very educated in GF cooking and takes great to inform her staff and to make many GF options available. They have even fried fresh chips for me in a separate fryer to avoid cross contamination.
