The Culver’s in Fox Lake is the only place I truly feel comfortable eating at in Fox Lake! It’s a newer restaurant and they do have a dedicated French fry frier, so the fries are gluten free! They’re awesome about making sure everything is safe and the bun always comes in a bag to help prevent cross contamination. My go-to is the pot roast on a GF bun and it’s awesome with some BBQ sauce!
Steer clear of this place. There flyer shows gluten in almost everything yet they said grilled chicken safe. Great you have a bun, who cares if x- contamination occurs on grill, it did for me, sick 30 min. Later. Clueless staff, as if I was the 1st person to ask about GF. My first and last visit to this chain. -- Not Celiac-- Have Allergy Dx , Since 2011.
I’m not celiac, I just don’t eat gluten because of Rosacea. Anyway, ate here for the first time today and it was delicious! I got the grilled chicken sandwich on a gluten free bun and fries. I will definitely eat here again!
Manager and owner both have celiac. Rang my order up with an allergy alert so that it was prepared correctly. Great gluten free buns with burgers. Plenty of options to pick from. Rest of my non-celiac family enjoyed their meal as well. Will be back!
My parents wanted to stop here on the way home from a dog rescue event. They have nothing gluten free, everything is fried together. Said they could give me a side salad without croutons. Asked if ranch was gluten free. Nope. I don’t understand why gluten would be in ranch in the first place... and if it is, keep a bottle of Hidden Valley on hand.
I’ve eaten here several times. The staff is knowledgeable about gluten free and will help you pick out items on their large menu that are gluten free. They have tasty gf buns provided (I believe) by Udis. The buns come in a separate bag and you assemble the sandwich yourself.
As a Celiac, it’s like a piece of heaven when you discover a place that seems to “get it”! Culver’s has gluten-free buns, a dedicated gluten-free fryer, and they even keep their glutenous fryer on the other side of the kitchen!!! Yay! Thank you, Culver’s!! Post script: after reading some of the other reviews, I did some research on their menu and found where they say their crinkle cut fries do NOT have wheat. And since this location uses a dedicated fryer, I’m not worried about it. But I will let you know if I get sick. ;-)
You can ask for GF bun when ordering a sandwich and you can also buy a bun by itself if you need a GF bun in a pinch. I’ve bought a GF bun from Culver’s on my way to another burger place that I knew didn’t have any GF options.
I ordered and was sold a “gluten free grilled cheese.” What came out was a bun in a wrapper that had been warmed but was soggy and wet on top and 2 cold slices of cheese in a tray on the size. I’m sorry, but if that’s what a gluten free grilled cheese is, you shouldn’t sell it to someone without telling them. It was disgusting and a promptly threw it out. If I could give zero stars, I would.
Since a majority of people working here are high schoolers, it’s hard to get through that allergies are a concern. Its a hit or miss with Culver’s depending on the time and day. Ive eaten their chili, green beans, mashed potato no gravy, grilled chicken salad, burgers, and pot roast sandwich.
We have been there so many times now, it is in our regular rotation. The people working here are so incredibly nice. I mean, REALLY nice, like, nicer than Chick-fil-A employees! 😱 Some of my mom-friends treated our kids to custard after the last day of school, and the manager came by to see if he could treat us moms to custards too since we did not order for ourselves. So kind! And when the employees bring out the custard to the kids, it is always with such kindness. So, the service is outstanding. The food is equally as great as the service. We have family in Wisconsin, so we were thrilled to have a legit custard restaurant so close to home. The burgers are quite good, and every time I have ordered mine with a note for gluten allergy, it has come out perfectly. Their GF buns are my favorite anywhere. Served warm in a sealed bag. It’s far and away the best fast food burger for celiac sufferers. Every kids meal comes with a free custard, so be sure to hold onto the paper tickets on the kids meal bags. And also be sure to hang onto the other half of the ticket, because when you collect 10, you turn it in for a free kids meal. 🙌🏻
My wife who has Celiac loves Culver's. She says their gluten free bun is the best. Also, she likes them because when she orders they ask if it is due to preference or allergy. The first time she ordered the guy at the drive thru window even gave her a pamphlet that shows all the gluten free options on their menu. Great food and great people!
Good gluten free and dairy free burgers. My husband really enjoys it. Not much for plant based eating. We'd go often if they had a gluten free, dairy free, plant-based tasty offering which is better for our health.
My celiac son loves this place. They have Udi’s GF buns, which come packaged separately from the burgers. They have a nutrition menu online which shows everything that doesn’t have gluten. The burgers are good, but a little greasy.
My burger was made separately & my gf bun was in its own package! Didn't get sick at all. The online allergens menu was super helpful and very easy to follow. So nice to find a place in Burlington I could have something other than pizza.
Fantastic food and great service! The employee who took my order was knowledgeable about what items contained gluten; and when he wasn’t sure about something he went and got a nutrition & allergen guide pamphlet and found which item I was inquiring about. He also put allergen alerts on the order ticket for the cooks preparing my meal so they would know to change their gloves ahead of making it. My meal was also brought out on a separate tray from the rest of my family’s food.
Got here right as the opened - 10 AM! Worked with 2 staff who explained they DO have a fry-only fryer (technically gf), but since it is next to other gluten fryers, there could be possibly of oil dripping in the other - which I appreciated hearing about. I chose to order fries, since we arrived so early in the day (and I really wanted fries!). GF buns are warmed in their own, separate bag. And all GF food is bagged separate from my husbands (not gf order). I appreciate eating good, safe fast food from Culver’s. Always still remember to ask questions!
My first experience at Culver’s. UDI’s bun come heated and sealed in original packaging, and GF meat patty/cheese/lettuce/tomatoes/bacon comes with ketchup/mustard/mayo packs so you can assemble the burger yourself. Hot and tasty and way more filling than a lettuce wrap. Worth the 1.99 up charge for the GF bun! Posted gf menu options attached!
We went on a Sunday. It was busy. I started asking about how celiac friendly they were, I got the deer in the headlight look. She then turned to the manager and she started talking about the heat would kill the gluten. I said no thank you and ordered only Cole slaw.
Vanilla custard is great in a cup and they also have gf buns. The gf buns come out steamed in plastic packet which keeps them moist. The staff made my burger on a separate space and seemed to take care to avoid cross contamination.
The staff is knowledgeable and brings out a gluten free bun in a sealed package that’s been steamed so you know it’s gluten free. The fries I’m pretty sure are cross contaminated but the butter burgers and a lot of shakes are safe.
I ordered a gluten free burger to go and they gave me it with the bun warm and still in its plastic package. I think they did this so that the bun wouldn't get soggy on my ride to Sturgis. I appreciate that little detail, and the burger was really good.
The staff member was great but after asking my probing questions, said if I have a wheat allergy or celiac she would not recommend eating there, since they cannot guarantee no CC. So my family ate and I went to the Chick fil a down the street that happens to have a separate fryer for fries and separate grill for grilled chicken. NCGI would probably be fine, but not guaranteed safe for Celiac.
Culver’s has best gluten free hamburger in the area. Grilled chicken and salads are on the menu also. The owner and managers have trained the staff to be knowledgeable and to special handle your gluten free requests. They automatically change gloves. I always ask for the manager to be informed of my order. I am celiac (extremely sensitive) and have never gotten sick here. This is a very pleasant, clean casual restaurant. It is fast food but every order is prepared separately. I highly recommend Culver’s.
