I am confused, since SOME people said they had fried food here, yet when I emailed and asked in person, I was told ONLY boiled seafood and the salads were safe options for me (2020)
Pretty good food overall
— Separate gluten-free menu
Great GF soft shell crab lunch platter. Used a dedicated fryer
They have a gluten free menu and will cook in olive oil. The only problem for me was the sides since I am also allergic to soy and canola. The soft shell crabs were very good and well seasoned.
Our server was celiac and she took me through the gluten free menu. The gf menu is quite extensive. They have a dedicated fryer and use cornmeal so celiacs can have the deep fried seafood.
Fried shrimp delivered by someone other than our waiter - we asked if it was GF - she just shrugged! Nice GF menu but if the staff isn’t aware of the risk we take to eat out then not worth going back.
Waiter was extremely knowledgeable about gf items. I had the amazing fried shrimp platter. The portion size was huge and it was so awesome to have fried food. The waiter wasn’t sure if the potatoes were gluten-free but after reading other reviews I decided to eat them. No problem!
Note: This is for the Garden district location! I wouldnt go back here. The waitor was clueless about gluten. No gluten free menu. Ordered the bbq shrimp to share with my girlfriend who eats gluten, so we asked for the bread on the side. When the food comes, the bread is right in the middle of the food. The waitor didn’t even understand the issue with that. Besides the food, the lokale has zero of the original Deanies charm! Go to the one on lake ave for the right experience. This locations seems to be run by kids who dont really care about food. The friend shrimp was delicious!
What a great treat, gluten free fried shrimp!!
The fried shrimp and fries tasted like heaven in my mouth. It was so good! They have separate friers for each item. All corn flour except the calamari and one other item. Highly recommend.
BEST PLACE I ATE IN NOLA. Y’all I had gluten free fried shrimp 😁
Gluten free seafood!! Yum :) I got the fried shrimp platter!
Staff was knowledgeable. Had a gluten free menu.
We did not have a good experience. I think it was mostly a brand new uninformed waitress. We asked about the dedicated fryer multiple times then she recommended I eat broiled shrimp instead of fried. She left and subbed a new server in halfways through service and never informed him of our allergies. Wish I could trust I wouldn't get contaminated.
I am GF and saw Deanie’s had a dedicated fryer and they did oysters, catfish, and shrimp fried in a yellow corn batter. It was absolutely amazing! The catfish wasn’t too fishy and that and shrimp were so tender. The staff was over-the-top knowledgeable, even proud, of the fact that they had a dedicated fryer. Haven’t had fried shrimp or catfish in almost 30 years!
No GF menu when asked , but Super knowledgeable staff. All the fried seafood is made gluten free! Had the fried shrimp and catfish combo. Soups, onion rings and anything stuffed is not GF. Some of the best fried catfish I have had in a very long time. Will definitely be back
The server was knowledgeable with ingredients. They also had a separate fryer.
Awesome! Haven’t had fried shrimp since celiac diagnosis!! 3 celiacs ate and no symptoms!
Had a great experience eating here. There is a gluten free menu so be sure to ask for it. My husband had the grilled shrimp dinner (GF without the bread) and it was very tasty but I ordered the fried shrimp which comes with fries and would recommend it to anyone sensitive to shared fryers who miss eating this kind of food. It’s totally safe and delicious. I felt great the next day. What a treat. Huge portions. I could not eat it all and we came hungry. The crawfish boil potatoes to start were a bonus.
I’d eat here every day if I could. Huge portions, dedicated fryer and delicious foods! Will return.
The staff seemed knowledgeable. The food was very good.
Great food and lots of options of actual entrees for celiac. Had the BBQ shrimp dinner and it was huge!
I wanted to cry when I took the first bite. It was heavenly!! It tasted too good to be true. But I had it last night and feel fantastic today. Definitely a must if your visiting and have celiac or a gluten allergy. 🤗
The food is amazing. The fried shrimp is coated in corn flour. YES FRIED SHRIMP. Lots of locals and the portions are big. 16 shrimp and sweet potato fries.
Omg i was so excited to try this after reading the reviews. The shrimp dinner far exceeded my expectations. Delicious!
Delicious food, fantastic service too! The waiter saw me looking over the gluten free menu and walked over to immediately tell me what I could or could not have. I went with gluten free shrimp and had the shrimp and crawfish dip with their chips, and everything was amazing!!
Amazing service!! The best gluten free fried shrimp EVER! We were given boiled potatoes instead of dinner rolls- they were absolutely delicious!
YES, fried gf food!!!!! The fried shrimp was fabulous...couldn't eat it all. Separate gf menu but long wait. Worth it!
So good! Dedicated GF menu. I was skeptical because they said all of their fried seafood was gluten free. Well it must be, because I didn’t get sick! I had the combo platter with gluten free fried shrimp, oysters, and catfish. Also got the charbroiled and bbq oysters (without the French bread). They bring boiled potatoes instead of bread before your meal!
Knowledgeable staff and great corn-breaded fried fish! I have celiac and didn’t have any problems after eating here.
I only had appetizers, but they were great!! they have a few items for appetizers! which as we all know that is hard to find!!
My wife got to eat fried shrimp and fried catfish. We both teared up while she was eating it. They are cornmeal breaded and have a separate fryer. The staff was unaware of gluten free items, but the manager knows. They have gf menu online but not in the restaurant.
They have a GF menu online but not in the restaurant so check it out on your phone before going. Staff was knowledgable and I did not get sick. I'm really sensitive to cross contamination & I was able to eat the French fries, shrimp dinner & crab meat salad. They have separate frier for French fries
I had the fried shrimp, catfish, and oysters. YUM! My first time having fried seafood since going GF, other than at home. I'll definitely be back.
Stated gluten allergy and they bring food out with bread all over it
Incredible gf fried shrimp! Service was good and crawfish were as well
I was told the last time I was here that they had a dedicated fryer but today found out they use the same fryer for the seafood coated with GF flour and regular flour. So disappointed. I felt like our server did not go out of her way to accommodate me. Unfortunate.
This place is not celiac friendly. Our shrimp dish arrived at the table with French bread on it so we had to send it back. After telling the server that I have celiac.
I have Celiac and almost geared up when they said all their seafood is GF fried or broiled. Haven't had a good fried seafood platter in years. This place is great!!!!
The choices were so limited I literally cried.
My wife and I ate at Deanie's tonight. They have a gf menu on their website and the waiter was knowledgeable about how food was prepared and what was gf. The BBQ shrimp was amazing! Order it with rice instead of bread to soak up all that amazing sauce. Go early if you don't want to wait an hour. But well worth the wait.
Bartender was super confused about what was gf. He thought corn flour wasn't gf. Apparently most seafood is gf, but not the crab claws for an appetizer? Couldn't really get to the bottom of what was safe. I did have a reaction so I won't go back. For safe gf fried seafood go to Cassamento's.
All fried seafood is GF! Fried shrimp was fantastic! My daughter has celiac and she ate fried shrimp and fries without and problems. Staff were very knowledgable. Highly recommend!
Food was delicious and in huge portions. Their batter for catfish, shrimp and clams is gluten-free. The fried catfish was yummy. I hadn't been able to have good fried fish in over 8 years.
When to Deanie's for dinner upon arriving in New Orleans because it was recommended by the staff at our timeshare. I was skeptical because we had called ahead to make sure they had gluten free options and the person who answered the phone only said that any fried fish could be broiled instead. However, we were tired and hungry so we went. The waitress we had was very helpful and kept running back to the kitchen to talk to the chef. He informed us that all the fried foods were gluten free or he could broil anything for me. I decided to be adventurous and order the fried shrimp since I hadn't had it since I found out I had a gluten sensitivity. It was absolutely delicious. Also, we started with an appetizer of Nachos, made with Kettle potatoes chips rather than Nachos covered in crab meat and a melted blend of 5 cheeses. That was to die for!...and it was gluten free! I had no bad reaction to anything I ate. The restaurant is not fancy, kind of a 1950 diner type, but everything was very good. If you are concerned, have the blackened red fish. It, too was delicious. We tried to go back on Friday night, but there was an hour and a half wait to get it.
Checked out the gluten free menu online before I went- they do not have one in the restaurant. While the server was not familiar with gluten she was really sweet and knew I could have any of the fish broiled and boiled. They brought out boiled potatoes to the table instead of bread. I had the crawfish and shrimp boiled, and then the broiled red fish. All was delicious. Service was great. Saw the salads on the table next to me and they looked delicious!
The staff had no idea about the gluten free menu. They stared at me and smiled at me like a was insane when I asked about it. The service was awful, and then they brought my food out with bread on the plate! The food was not even that good.. If I could give it a zero I would. Very disappointing!!
No GF menu and waitress seemed to have no knowledge about possible options. I talked her through possibilities for my 6 year old. She checked with kitchen staff and confirmed they could accommodate (settled on chicken and rice). Even though it was a little concerning and took some effort- she was nice and my daughter didn't have a reaction.
I looked on Deanie's website and not only did it say that they had a gluten-free menu, but it had a tab for it and showed a separate menu. I went there and asked for the gluten-free menu and was told that they didn't' have one but their waiters are trained and could accommodate me. I felt tricked - if they don't have a separate menu they shouldn't pretend they do on their website. I won't trust a place that does that and I walked out.
They don't have a gluten free menu but the manager will work with you to figure out what options you can have. The food is pretty decent
While there is not a GF menu per se, the wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive, even on a VERY busy Saturday night.
