My non-gluten-free son and husband and I (gluten-free but not Celiac)) ate at Don Taco last night. My son has eaten there before and enjoyed the food so was glad that I would have gluten-free options. There are quite a few varieties of tacos that are gluten-free, and I chose three different ones. All were very good!
Came here with a group of friends. Very tasty tacos and our server was very knowledgeable about gluten free, including warning us that the chips are fried in a shared fryer, but if we wanted guacamole or salsas, they could bring just a plain tortilla as a substitute. Drinks were very delicious and they were able to give recommendations on flavor profiles, mixed flavors, and suggested tequila/mezcal for each drink. Did not have a reaction after visiting here.
Tacos tasted nice and were very filled. GF options are marked on the taco options that are gluten free, which is about 50% of the taco menu. My waiter wasn’t super knowledgeable, but based on reviews and the labeled menu, I felt safe enough. A bit pricy but most taco places up here are.
Over all, eh… I had 3 different tacos delivered from DoorDash. While they were very well stuffed because of this they needed a second tortilla (only one provided) because they fell apart. There was enough filling provided to make two tacos easily though. The Al Pastor meat was shredded and… slow cooked? so there was no char/flavor wasn’t intensified. The sriracha chicken had no favor, just tasted like heat/spice. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not afraid of spicy in the least! I just expect other flavors to come with it. And it wasn’t even like there was so much heat that some other flavor couldn’t have been there; there just wasn’t! The last one was the Pomegranate Steak which was easily my favorite. Lots of great well balanced flavor in that one!
Waiter was very helpful about avoiding gluten. Tacos were great. Chips have shared fryer so we skipped those but they did offer corn tortillas if we wanted. My family would definitely go back!
Food was really good, no hesitation there! I had strip steak tacos. About half the menu is GF.
I asked the server to flag my order as an allergy for the kitchen, and he seemed really unsure why I would request that, and didn’t have any answers about cc prevention. He confirmed he could ask the chef to change their gloves but it didn’t exactly inspire confidence. (“Oh sure, sure.”) Overall I’d say it’s celiac-friendly but I’d be less confident with takeout or if it’s really busy.
Their covid menu (electronic with QR code) did not have GF items marked so they brought me a print one.
Delicious food and knowledgeable staff! I am a very sensitive celiac who is so nervous to eat at restaurants but I trusted the previous reviews and went for it. There are many GF options. I marked celiac next to my order and the waiter on his own came to me and said he would make sure to tell the kitchen and have them change their gloves. I got a chicken rice bowl which was so good and I did not get sick. Go enjoy! Side note- I did not eat the chips due to what other reviewers said about them not being safe but I also did not ask the staff about them.
Great tacos. Rice bowls are phenomenal. Quesadillas were delicious as well. If you are in the area, this is definitely a place to try. You will not regret it.
Outstanding gourmet street tacos! Half the tacos on the menu are gluten-free. Rarely do celiacs get so many delicious choices! I enjoyed the taco of the week which was a delish vegetarian taco with sweet potato, quinoa, and chipotle aioli. I also got the Mr. Cordero lamb taco (swoon), the chorizo and eggs taco, and the roasted sriracha chicken taco.
The staff are highly knowledgeable about gluten sensitivities, and all of them were proactive to ensure I experienced a safe and tasty meal.
Highly recommended and can’t wait to go back!
Service was great, very helpful with selecting Gluten Free options, which are also clearly labeled on the menu. Tacos and street corn were pretty good, guac was awesome! The chips share a fryer with gluten-covered items, but I had no problem eating them (don't suggest if you are SUPER intolerant). Despite the fact that I have Celiac, I tend to not be affected by fryer contamination. Definitely got my taco fix!
Awesome spot! Celiac aware and friendly, but the best part is the delicious food and yummy tequilas and mezcals.
Greatest thing here is that they will work with ANY special dietary restraint or preference. I am a GF vegetarian and never leave hungry. Plus their queso is AMAZING!
Excellent tacos and lots of clearly marked gf options. The chips are not marked gf (no dedicated fryer I believe) but I ate them with out a reaction.
Outstanding innovative tacos and small plate foods. Waitress very respectful of my CD and took precautions. All tacos are on corn tortillas. No dedicated fryer, but I didn't have a reaction. The "small" guacamole fed 3 people and the Chicken nachos were huge! Great food, cheap price ($50 for three adults). Best part, no triple sec in Margaritas, all are fresh and gluten free!
