I savored every bite, though I couldn’t even finish it. I found this restaurant on this site and was intrigued by the recent reviews. I ordered the burger so that I could have the GF bun. It was more like a biscuit but I was okay with that. The server even told me that the fries and tater tots were GF. I got the tots. He also mentioned that one of the servers was Celiac, so if he has questions, he refers to her expertise. Said I need to come back for the GF pasta. I hope I find myself in the area again to do so.
I've eaten here a handful of times without incident, it's one of the few places near me that I trusted.
I was in about 2 weeks ago just before the kitchen closed and ordered the chipotle chicken pasta. About halfway through eating it, I noticed one of the curly pasta noodles they use with their standard Mac and cheese. They apologized and took it off our order but by the time I got to my car was so bloated I looked like I was 8 months pregnant (I'm a man).
I'm super careful about where I eat out because my reactions typically last weeks, and unfortunately I can't trust going back here again.
Dukes is one of our favorite and trusted restaurants. We eat here fairly often. My wife is Celiac and never has a problem. She never got sick here. The staff is knowledgeable.
Each item on the menu has any allergens listed. Order Sandwiches and burgers with a GF bun from a local GF bakery (Rosie's!) Fries are cooked in a dedicated fryer
It's a good idea to call early or a day ahead for reservations. The food is excellent with local performers on stage while you eat. Fun place.
I called ahead of time to see if they were able to accommodate Celiac and the girl I talked to on the phone had Celiac herself! They were knowledgeable. They have a dedicated fryer they can use if you tell them you have Celiac. My daughter got the chicken tenders which are already gluten free and they fried them and fries in a separate fryer for her. The have GF buns that come from Rosie's bakery and a chocolate torte which sounded good.
Great food, great experience. I've eaten here twice in the past few months. Before the first visit, I emailed with management about their precautions for GF guests. I was comfortable with their reply and thrilled that they have a dedicated GF fryer so I could order French fries. The servers were very responsive to my dietary needs and I did not have any issues after eating. I highly recommend them. My husband and daughter, who are not GF, also loved their food.
I went here after several people said it was the best place in Crystal Lake for GF. I even called them and told them I was stopping with a friend for either an appetizer or dessert - we did not want a full meal as it was the middle of the afternoon - we just wanted a pleasant place to get a small bite to eat and a drink. Well, they did not have a single GF appetizer nor a single GF dessert so we left and went to Pl8 in Barrington.
I like the vibe of the place and my friends love it - if they offered these other items, I would be there regularly. As for meals though, given prices, I'd still rather go to The Cottage.
I have celiac and came here today with my friends. The staff was very thorough is explaining their experience and processes to provide a gluten free/friendly environment for those with celiac. The food and the staff were wonderful! I had zero digestive issues after dining and am very pleased! I will definitely return!
They totally have gluten free options, right on the menu. I got a burger and flatbread and the bun and gluten free crust were great! Definitely recommend.
Menu changed in the winter and they are slowing adding back the items from old menu. Not as many GF options...kitchen not dedicated even long time staff seemed annoyed at GF requests. "Yeah I think that's gluten free" without even checking. Request to speak to manager if celiac. No GF beer. Food has gone downhill for sure.
They have a gluten free menu, the food is delicious, service is good, atmosphere is great BUT I was sick as soon as I got home (15 min car ride). Huge gluten belly and all that other fun stuff. very thankful I was already home when I got sick.
Went here for lunch....had a menu that had several options for GF items...had a build your own black angus burger and it was delish! The bun was pretty good, didn't crumble the minute I took a bite. Had chili as my side that was very tasty. No problems later either! Would definitely return.
Really accommodating staff. Mgr. Liz coordinated with chef Zach and our server Randy to help me find menu options that were both gluten-free (of which there are a good number), as well as free of other of my many food allergens. And there was no hint of irritation or unwillingness as you sometimes run into at restaurants. Would definitely eat here again.
Great experience eating here with my celiac husband. He had the pizza , I had the salmon , all GF . Good GF beer and cider choices, good staff.5
