Chili relleno - gfree! So exciting to be able to order that. They also sell their gfree enchilada sauce by the jar.
I asked about gluten free options and the server didn't know what that meant and had to ask someone. They use a shared fryer and when they brought my food, the server had his thumb on my plate after touching who knows what. I should have just left but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. First of all, the food wasn't good. Secondly I immediately began having gastric issues and by the time I went home I was in a full blown auto immune attack. Do not go here.
I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews of the "original" El Charro in the downtown area, but our experience at this location was fabulous. Menu was well-marked, and staff checked with the kitchen on all questions. Many GF options, and all in our party (3 celiacs) enjoyed and were safe. Would definitely return!
Do not go here if you have Celiac. Waiter, nice guy, but had no idea what I was talking about. The menu has items marked as GF but there was no knowledge or information about cross-contamination or dedicated fryers, grills, etc. I was told chips and salsa are fine because 'chips are just corn' Knew it was time to go when they asked if I wanted corn or flour tortillas.
This El Charro location is closed. They are opening a gastropub there. The same people own it so there is a possibility that they will have a gluten free menu.
