99% of the menu is gluten free, all tortilla chips were gluten free from a dedicated fryer, the waiter Tony, was super freindly and knowledgable. Very careful about cross contamination.
Separate GF menu, and the burritos were pretty tasty.
Very large menu, knowledgeable staff. Complimentary chips and salsa are fried off-site in a dedicated fryer, according to manager. For my meal, I had chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. Very, very good. Also, location is fantastic!
We had such a great experience, we decided to eat here two nights in a row! I have a severe gluten allergy and most other restaurants down here don't have many options if any. This restuarant had a seperapte gluten free menu, that had so many delicious options! We loved the drinks as well! A must visit!
Had a great seafood claw taco & guac. No problems, although I'm not celiac, I am very sensitive. Great flavor!
Fabulous Mexican food, and we know Mexican food! I had the trio enchiladas. Wonderful. Server knew the three things in the menu NOT GF. The place is in a fun location with good AC and drinks.
Very good. Authentic. Cross contamination may be an issue with them handling wheat and flour tortillas. Got the a la carte tacos. Ground chuck and chicken.
I'm sorry to say I was glutened here. The food was delicious and although the waitress was not knowledgeable about gluten, she went out of her way to check with the chef on a couple of things. That said, this was the only meal I had that day (was otherwise just using protein and fruit bars) and I had significant symptoms the following day. They said they would take special precautions to make sure they prepared my corn tortilla for the burrito on a separate surface but it is an open kitchen. I went on a weekend evening and the tables were full so perhaps that's why.
Great staff, manager was knowledgeable, staff not as knowledgeable but very willing to work to avoid cross contamination. Be specific as shared cooking surfaces are used but they will use separate pans etc for you. I.E don't assume gf items on menu are safe for celiacs without modification. No fryer in facility. Food was good but only giving it 4 stars as I am from CA and particular about Mexican food
They make gluten free food... the prices are an absolute turn off however. charging individually for every single item in a taco. Rice? $1.75 Lettuce .50 sour cream? $1.00
I can't speak highly enough about this place. The owner is so kind, and personable. I am a very sensitive celiac and have eaten here several times. The stuffed avocado is incredible, and one of the best meals I've had. The corn tortillas are unreal.
super awesome. food was outstanding and staff was knowledgable. best margaritas and salsa I've ever had.
Awesome service and awareness. Overall great experience. Delicious food.
Stuffed Avocado was awesome. Nice to have chips and salsa, too
Nice selection of gluten free items on the menu. The waiter was also really good with all my food sensitivity issues and was conscientious about making sure I don't get slipped any dairy or eggs. Nice place. I would go back.
Chicken burrito was delicious and cooked separately.
Delicious! Had the stuffed poblano pepper with skirt steak. Amazing!
Great food! Haven't had a burrito since going gluten free. Large gluten free menu. Very authentic.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. They had no problem using separate cooking items to prepare food for my daughter, who is a celiac. It was delicious!
The style of food, using majority of corn based, enables there to be PLENTY of gluten free options, aside from FLOUR tortillas which, last time we went, were no longer being used
— No gluten-free information on the menu
AMAZING AND INCREDIBLY FLAVORFUL FOOD! This was not on my "approved" list for gluten free before traveling down to New Orleans, but when our first place plans fell through El Gato Negro saved the day! It had great reviews, so we decided to give it a go - and I am SO glad we did! We sat in the cute outdoor patio area, just the two of us, which made it feel like a private date - our waitress was super informative and let me know I could have pretty much everything BUT the flour tortillas, which they don't use currently, bonus perk for me. Complimentary chips and salsa greet you as you mull over what to order...(again GF!). I went for the pork fajitas, which were served SIZZLING with a medley of fire roasted/charred veggies and SO much flavor, along with a side of rice, lettuce, tomatoes (no beans for me!) and sour cream. I loved my meal so much I didn't even NEED to put them in the fajitas it came with! A MUST TRY !
I had a skirt steak burrito. Large and good. No I’ll effects. I was a bit concerned after reading the recent bad review and our waitress seemed a bit flaky. Didn’t try the chips due to the other review. —I went here twice more and tried the tacos—chicken, pork and steak. Also fabulous and they don’t skimp on the meat. Very close to the convention center so if you are there for a conference it is a great find. I never tried the chips because of the other review. I was told they were gf but I never inquired further. The regular food was more than enough to eat.
I don’t know WHY people say this is celiac safe, all wheat and GF are cooked on the same grill. The staff was very open it all comes from the same fryer. GF options but NOT celiac safe
Mexican is always a go to for me and this was no exception! Homemade corn tortillas were to die for and huge portions! A little pricey for Mexican but definitely worth the money!
I went in with high expectations and left with a stomach ache. The stomach ache passed fairly quickly so it must have just been a bit of CC. The really disappointing part was the bland and totally uninteresting enchilada and margarita that I had. I really wanted to love this place. Sigh.
Great lunch of enchiladas here. The server was helpful about what menu items were gf. The chips and salsa they bring out first are edible for coeliacs! Good size portions. Left very satisfied.
The waiter was had was horrible. Could barely speak English but food was good. Had a gf menu which I was really happy about. Homemade tortillas too. Didn’t get sick. Just get a different waiter. Wouldn’t come back due to him being so bad. Oh and don’t get the sangrias. Was horrible!
Everything was saved by an observant staff member. Initial part of the night was perfect. Ordered the food and we were given the wrong tortillas, but the food runner noticed the mistake when she delivered the food. The mistake was quickly resolved and we had a lively meal. I highly recommend a visit.
They have a GF menu and are very knowledgeable. They make their own corn tortillas and they are delicious! They put the tacos toppings in separate dishes so you can make add them yourself. It was empty but we're so glad we went!
