UPDATE - I ate here again recently, and I noticed the taquito had a cinnamon taste to it. I asked the staff to confirm they still used a dedicated GF fryer and that the correct fryer was used. They said it was but I got sick. Tried one last time, and still tasted cinnamon and got sick. I don't think they are using a dedicated GF fryer anymore and are frying the churros in the same fryer. I've stopped going.
original review:
I've eaten here many times and never had an issue. They are very aware of cross contamination, and even have a dedicated gluten free fryer. Everything has been delicious and I'll probably eat here many more times.

Never gotten sick eating here after a couple of years. The churros aren’t gf but they’re apparently done in a separate fryer

The food is delicious. When we went there we asked if the whole menu was gluten free which the (only one working) employee said yes. However later we asked (the same employee) if the churros were definitely gluten free and were told no. From what I could gather the menu is naturally gluten free but the churros are not and possibly are fried with other items. Not sure that training is given to make sure the food is celiac safe.

My son ordered the taquitoes and our whole meal was gluten free. Not highly concerned about cross contamination there as it seemed everything on the menu was something he could eat. The food was delicious! Service was excellent!

Everything but the churros is GF, and the staff says the corn taquitos and tostadas are fried in a separate fryer from the churros. Taquitos were delicious and caused me no problems! The pupusas were really good, though far from the best I've ever had - but it's GF pupusas so you won't hear me complaining!! Recommended, I will be back.

Knowledgeable staff, dedicated fryer, insanely delicious food with no reaction from me or my (also celiac) partner. They were also accomodating of my dairy free need as well. Highly recommend the dobladas, chicharron pork pupusas, and tostadas.

The staff was incredibly knowledgeable, the second I said I had Celiac she told me that everything on the menu but the churros is gluten-free. Plus, the churros have a separate fryer and are prepped in a separate area. She immediately knew what she was talking about and made me feel really safe. On top of being safe, the food is unbelievably good! Pretty reasonably priced and truly delicious! It’s my new happy place!

The vast majority of the menu is gluten free, and they are very knowledgeable about cross contamination. The only non-GF menu items are the churros, which are prepared in a separate fryer. The food is delicious and by personal experience celiac friendly. Pretty sensitive and have eaten here multiple times.

Fan-freakin-tastic. Taquitos, something we’ve never had, were delicious and the cheesy rice side was awesome.

Really good food. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Only the churros contain gluten and they keep them separate from the other food. Never had a problem when I’ve eaten here and the food is delicious!
Good food. Served fast and online menu clearly labels GF food.
Everything gluten free except churros. Lots of options and also delicious!

Amazing Guatemalan food. Unlike any other food I’ve had in Philly. Everything savory on the menu is gluten-free and made in its own fryer. Tons of choices for me as a vegetarian as well, and the food is filling - no more boring grilled vegetable salad bowls for me now that El Merkury is in town!! Everything tastes fresh and high quality, including the Guatemalan chocolate. YUM.

Everything except for the churros (which are fried in its own fryer) is gluten free and made toOrder!
El Merkuy provides Central American Street foods. They have Toquitos, Pupusas, and Tostada's, salads, and sides. The chrros are the only thing not gluten free.
