I send everyone I know visiting Portland to Eventide. The brown butter lobster roll is so delicious and unique. I loved their clam chowder too.

Best lobster roll I’ve ever had, and the bun is divine. Oysters are also so good and very fresh. Did not get sick and I am very sensitive. Definitely coming back !

The hostess was super helpful when I called ahead - confirmed their protocol and that they had a GF lobster roll. The waiter was knowledgeable and if he didn’t know something he confirmed with the kitchen. The lobster stew was fantastic, the lobster roll was solid. The portions were pretty small so after we ended up ordering the clam bake too! Briney martini was great. No symptoms nearly 24 hours later

Feeling super torn about this review. During the meal I felt super cared for and safe. The restaurant had good protocols and staff were very aware. The food was delicious. But a few hours later and I’m super sick. Ate: oysters, crudo, stew, crab bun, brownie.

The lobster roll here is too good to be true. A steamed bun that you won’t believe is GF and beautiful, buttered fresh lobster. Also loved the clam chowder and some oysters. What a treat. Great service, too. Try the picpoul white wine with any of these menu selections and you won’t go wrong. Ten out of five stars.

Eventide! You did amazingly! Y’all, this place was so good! Lobster roll GF, 10/10! GF Brownie 10/10! COCKTAILS 10/10! So good and had a great time. Our waitress was very kind to split up the checks. Would fly back to Portland to eat here

Not even kidding, their gluten free lobster roll may be the greatest thing I’ve ever eaten (even pre-celiac). The bread was so good I was hesitant that it was actually GF. They have a celiac button on their machine that specifies no cross-contact and they heat the bun in a separate steamer. GO HERE!

AMAMZING!! They are great about letting you know what’s gluten free and working to accommodate gluten sensitivities and gluten allergies. The lobster roll was absolutely life changing. 100/10 recommend

Easily the best gluten free bun I’ve ever had.
Soft and chewy and not just one of the 2 big companies buns warmed up.
It’s an actual lobster roll. Not a hot dog bun with lobster in it and not “you could get it without the bun”
Everything was phenomenal

We order a sample of the gluten free options. The lobster roll with gf bun, clam chowder, oysters and the gf brownie. The bun was the best bun I had with my lobster roll. The waitress was celiac aware and made sure to mark my order. The portions are small for the price.

Stopped in on a busy Friday afternoon and stood at the oyster rock. Told the server I had a gluten allergy, and she clarified with, “celiac? It makes a difference for cross contact.” Her understanding of my needs was super encouraging, and I didn’t have any issues with the food we ordered (half dozen oysters with mignonette and kimchi ice, plus gluten free lobster roll). The food was also incredibly delicious, and the lobster roll was unlike anything I’ve ever had before. Highly recommended.

Super knowledgeable and delicious! They took the menu and highlighted what I could order and if there were any modifications. Clarified if it was allergy or preference and cross contamination. Lobster Roll- the bun was amazing! Clam chowder was fantastic.

Went for the first time in 2015 and it continues to be an all-time favorite spot in 2021. The only GF lobster roll I love— it’s not traditional, it’s a steamed bao bun which is SO much better than the dry crumbly GF buns at other spots. The lobster green curry stew was great as well. Specify if you have Celiacs and not just a preference.

I was really satisfied with the gluten free options. I got the lobster roll and the gluten free roll exceeded expectations (not dry at all). It looked a little weird but it tasted great. They also have a gluten free brownie that is super rich and yummy.

The lobster stew, lobster bun with the gf roll (the tastiest, doughiest thing ever), scallop crudo (special), oysters and brownie were all either already gf or made gf upon request - all INCREDIBLE. You have to ask, there is no gf menu, but they are very accommodating of celiac and never make you feel uncomfortable for bringing it up.

Their gluten free rolls are so pillowy and delicious. They are very conscious about allergies - I have eaten here multiple times and have never gotten sick. They have added the ability to request gluten free when ordering online (but there is still no place to specify it’s an allergy on DoorDash!). Shared fryer means no fried goodies, though.

Eventide does a fantastic job with offering GF options. They take cross contamination seriously and modify the ingredients to meet celiac standards. I've eaten there a few times and have yet to be "glutened." The staff has never made me feel like an inconvenience for double checking the kitchen norms to avoid cross contamination and I feel completely safe eating there. I've had oysters, green curry lobster stew, lobster boas, and their brownie, all were gluten free and did not cause any issues for me. Not to mention everyone is very friendly and helpful.

This was the most delicious GF lobster roll! The bun was like a bao bun, very soft and squishy. The waitress said much of the menu could be made "celiac safe" even though the menu is not marked with GF offerings. I also got the green curry lobster soup which was also delicious. Since this place was open on Mondays, I went 2x in one day for the lobster roll.

The GF lobster roll may be the best GF anything I’ve ever eaten! It was so amazing my non GF husband ordered another one! We also got the clam chowder and smoked fish dip and they gave me some great chips to go with them instead of the crackers. Truly amazing experience!

They don’t specify gluten-free options online for several of the items (including lobster roll, as of July 2022) so I called and they suggested I order in person instead.
Came in, the host first told me they don’t allow take out (what?) told me that cross contamination is going to be the case (which I gratefully appreciate him letting me know) but then proceeded to lecture me on how I should’ve ordered online and he takes online gluten free orders all the time. (Has he looked at their online menu for what the options are?)
I was gonna risk it but nah. Not worth it. He clearly wanted rid of us problem celiacs, and I have better (safer) options thankfully.

Don’t come to this place expecting a big meal! Fantastic oysters and VERY tasty lobster rolls, but portions are small and pretty pricey. Good stop if you’re trying to get a food tour experience and the staff is very knowledgeable about their food.

The most amazing GF lobster rolls I’ve tried to date. The spongy, soft rolls are so unique and they really do pack a lot of lobster in each one. They are small so I wouldn’t feel badly about eating two! Tried the crab roll (it was just ok. No reason to choose this over the lobster roll) and the pastrami Reuben with was also amazing. Ingredients were fresh and everything prepared for pickup right on time!

The lobster roll was so good with the softest bread I have have in 20 years that I literally thought I would cry. The rolls are small (both regular and GF) because they serve a tapas style menu but packed with lobster. We also enjoyed oysters, ceviche, and Cole slaw. Waiter was knowledgeable and asked about food allergies when introducing himself. No GF menu but very safe. GF lobster rolls take longer than regular rolls so my husband got his before mine. When we ordered the second he requested they wait to make his until mine was done and it was no problem. Yes so good I ate two.

The food at eventide is wonderful but if you have Celiac - do not trust their menu items, which are labeled gluten free. Yesterday, I ordered the raw tuna and gluten free lobster roll. Not sure which glutened me, but I violently threw up for two hours. I had eaten in the restaurant once before and had not gotten sick then. But now, I won’t the chance again.
Update - spoke to manager who was very helpful, apologized, and explained that the kitchen accidentally gave me a regular and not the gluten free lobster roll. She said in the future to make sure that if you order gluten free food, it will always be labeled as gluten free. So, just double check when you order.

Knowledgeable staff and tasty food. I had the chowder and lobster roll. The roll was a GF steamed roll which was very soft and went well with the lobster. Was very busy, not a big place.
They. Have. GF. Lobster Rolls!!! And they’re delicious. The roll is very spongy and you get decent lobster meat. They also have a delicious chowder that’s gf. Highly recommend this restaurant as most things on the menu are GF!
Sensitive celiac here; I was fine at this restaurant. I ordered the GF lobster roll. They have a unique take on it -- the roll is quite spongy. Many delicious GF options from the raw bar. The waitress was knowledgeable.

This place is always packed!?! We opted to do the stand dining option. I had the gf brown butter lobster roll and the clam chowder. It was superb. Highly recommend.
The lobster roll will change your life!
Yes
I had a late lunch here while visiting Portland. The menu isn't labeled but our server was knowledgable but had to double check about the greens salad - they use gf tamari instead of soy sauce in the dressing. I had raw oysters and their lobster roll on a gf bun and didn't get sick.
Yes
The food was delicious and the waitress was very knowledgeable on gluten free options. The clam chowder (without crackers) is GF and one of the best I’ve ever had!!! The lobster roll was really good too, with a fluffy and yummy roll.
Yes
I loved everything I ate here. My server was lovely and I felt so comfortable eating here. Can’t wait to go back.
Yes
No printed gf menu but the staff is super knowledgable. The chowder (w/o crackers) was VERY good. I also had the gf lobster roll which was good- the roll is very fluffy and definitely not the classic new england lobster roll (that is how thier non gf one looks too) but overall was yummy and I did not get sick!
Yes
I read that they had gluten free buns for their lobster rolls, so was very excited to go there. They assured me that nothing in the lobster roll had gluten and seemed to take my request to avoid cross contamination seriously. I am asymptomatic so I can’t attest to how safe it was, and it was good but not what I was expecting for a lobster roll. Very small with very little crab meat, and the bun was more like a Bao bun vs what you would expect a lobster roll to be on. The fries are made in a shared fryer so are not gluten free.
The gluten free bun was AMAZING! They don’t advertise it on the menu because there’s only a certain amount available when they make them on site, but they’re fantastic. They do serve them on wood planks which were probably used for glutinous buns, but it was worth it to me!
Amazing gluten free lobster roll. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful in selecting items that are gluten free and safe for Celiacs.
Yes
AMAZING! Gluten free buns were out of this world. Staff understands Celiacs and explains the menu options well. Try the lobster roll on the GF bun! It’s soooooooo good.
Gf steamed buns for the lobster & crab rolls are available - not advertised or on menu - just ask! They are small but delicious. Not much else is gf, except the raw items, steamed seafood & the soups & stew which were delicious
