We LOVE JackStack and feel blessed to have them here in LS. They’re able to accommodate allergies and they even offer a delish gf dessert! The Servers seem to be knowledgeable also which is great! I have Celiac Disease as does my Daughter and we both eat here often with no issues!
Very safe place for celiacs and outstanding food quality and taste. Staff has a good grasp of gluten-free food safety. French fries are not gluten-free, but meats, beans, and cole slaw are gluten-free. I definitely recommend this restaurant to celiacs.
At the restaurant they give you a list of things with gluten in it, to me this seems backwards. Then it takes more time for you to figure out what things aren't gluten free, which means the waitress has to wait longer. My family enjoyed every bite of their meals and they did not get sick. However I would highly recommend to the manager that they did print off a gluten-free menu.
The staff was very knowledgeable about what had gluten in it and were very accommodating! The waiter assured me that the kitchen staff would change gloves when they saw an allergen listed. The food was fantastic and all of the sauces are gluten free, the main accommodations were ordering no bread or bun.
I put off writing this review for several months, but feel I must post this. Jack Stack used to be our go-to barbecue restaurant, but the last time we went there, I got glutened. Big time. The gluten-free menu had been done away with, and an allergen list printed in its place. When I asked the manager for some clarifications, she went to the kitchen for a good 15 minutes before returning with some vague answers. It was clear that there was some confusion going on, but we were there to celebrate a family milestone and I went ahead and ordered the SAME THING I have ordered at least a half-dozen times. I emphasized that I have Celiac’s, repeatedly. I was sick for a week. I will not trust them again, and it makes me sad.
Amazing allergen list - pretty much everything is gluten free except the toast! I loved the burnt ends, brisket, sausage beans, and cream corn. Service was amazing and dinner was about $25. I’ll definitely be back when visiting KC.
They give you a separate listing of allergens to cross reference with menu. The fries are not labeled as containing gluten, but they are fried in a shared fryer with onion rings. The waitress said I could substitute cole slaw, but the guide said their cole slaw contained gluten.
I HIGHLY recommend coming here for anyone gluten free. Most items are gluten free on the menu but they do a good job outlining what to NOT have. Our waiter was great. He asked tons of good questions (change gloves? Did my husband want to also substitute his toast to avoid cross-contamination? Etc). Even when someone else brought out my meal she said “celiac barbecue potato”. I felt very safe eating here and had no issues. It’s also delicious!
The reviews don’t lie! This place is awesome with Gluten allergies. Our waiter went over everything I could eat, and was super helpful. Ended up getting a loaded baked potato that came with turkey and burnt ends and it was incredible! Highly recommend
My daughter had ribs and a few sides. Waitress asked valid questions about preparation and seemed very helpful. The restaurant seems like a bit of a tourist attraction and the staff seemed unable to handle the crowds. Our 1/2 hour wait to be seated turned into well over an hour. We arrived at 4:30 so try to get there earlier if you plan on eating dinner.
Been here twice in the last month. Both times either a manager or server explained the precautions they take. They have Gluten-Free buns and most main dishes are Gluten-Free. Also yummy. Fries are not Gluten-Free but substitute the potato salad. Yummmmm.
I have eaten at this location and the one in Lee's Summit, MO, several times and never had a gluten reaction. Meat, beans, cole slaw, and BBQ sauce are gluten-free, but the fries are NOT. They have gluten-free buns. In my opinion, this is the best BBQ in the Kansas City area. The staff is very knowledgeable about GF. I highly recommend this restaurant for celiacs.
They have a list of items that HAVE gluten, since that is a shorter list than the items that do. If you ask for the Gluten free menu, a manager always comes by to check on your selection. All the sides, except fries, are gluten free.
Dined here 7/24 and did not get sick. The waiter brought me a list of menu items which contain gluten and a separate list of items containing soy products. Then it was up to me to figure out just which items on the menu I could safely eat. This is a "clunky" system and not user friendly. I navigated their procedure and did not get sick eating my beef burnt ends and baked potato with only cheddar cheese. Regarding taste and food quality, I found the food tasty but greasy. Will probably not have BBQ if I eat here again.
The manager came over and personally explained the GF safe practices that were in place and had a printed "Reverse" menu of which foods were not safe. I had burnt ends (to die for), a baked potato and baked beans with no reaction : )
Great BBQ. My husband and I shared the beef, turkey and pork plate with the baked potato and cheesy corn bake. The manager came out to explain what can be made gluten free. Everything was great and I did not get sick:)
DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE A CELIAC I clearly stated that I was gluten free. My plate showed up with GLUTENOUS bread on it. The waiters and managers are beyond clueless. When I finally got a dish without bread on it, it was mediocre and way overpriced. To further my disappointment, I ran to the bathroom half an hour later. Glutened. The two other Celiac's in my party were not far behind. Miserable experience all around.
Amazing, visiting from Omaha and I wish we had a place like this...great bbq and amazing service for a Celiac. Manager was right at the table explaining how the protocols worked and made my son feel safe which is incredibly rare and welcome!
Fabulous service. Immediately after I requested a GF menu, the manager personally came out to speak with me, communicated with the chef, and then checked back in. All sauces and dressings are GF, there are many menu items from which to choose!
The manager here took the time to verbally explain how they handle gluten free and made suggestions on what to stay away from to avoid cross contamination. Food and service was beyond amazing.
Gave specific instructions (wash hands, clean area, etc) and still got sick. Staff seemed knowledgeable but seems to deal with people who are mostly gluten sensitive (not celiac). Very busy and large kitchen and staff, so there's a lot of opportunity for things to go wrong (cross-contamination). Don't take the risk if you have Celiac.
I informed the waitress that I needed to be gluten free and she assured me that the kitchen and manager knew. My salad came out with croutons, so I didn't eat it. My meal was supposed to be GF, but I felt sick after eating it. I've heard good things, but am very disappointed.
The waiter was very knowledgeable about what I could and could not have. There are plenty of gluten free options. The food came out wrong (bread on top even after I specifically warned them). They took it back and told me they remade the entire thing.
Everything was delicious. Make sure to state "no bread" with appetizers. We were caught off guard when it came out with a slice of toasted bread on top of the appetizer. Waitress not too knowledgable, but there is a gf menu to help.
Ate here twice on vacation. Had great luck both times. The manager double checked with me to make sure I understood where the greatest cross contamination risks were and gave me ideas of what would be safe (all meats and BBQ).
We have had some good experiences here. Just wish they would find a way to make their onion rings gluten free. They used to be a favorite of ours. And we can't have the fries since they don't have a dedicated fryer. Aside from that, we've enjoyed their meats, beans and cole slaw without any problems.
