Our favorite restaurant. Charming people, amazing food. Only one menu item contains gluten, and they have local GF beers on tap. Staff are knowledgeable about allergies. They even list ingredients on their website.

WORTH IT? SAFE FOR GF/CELIAC?
I'd go back if somebody else was paying. Great place to take somebody gluten free-- not a celiac safe kitchen as some of their wares are not gf. I had a mild reaction, not bad but definitely some cross contamination. They advertise themselves as a gluten free restaurant but they have one or two bread dishes.
PARKING AND SERVICE
we made reservations-- this is necessary. Parking is street parking, there was plenty as it's in sort of a residential neighborhood, but was a bit tricky as we were in a minivan. Would recommend using a smaller car and bringing a fiend that can parallel park.
The servers were very pleasant-- they left water refill jugs on the table and checked on us frequently. However, I didn't like that they kept leaning over my service dog. They should have approached the table at another angle rather than stepping over him. This caused an incident where a server dropped a sharp knife by accident and it almost speared my SD who was directly underneath them.
It's also not accessible. I suppose a person with a wheelchair could dine in the initial room, but the main dining room is up a pair of short steps. The bathroom door opens inward meaning that there isn't much space to exit if you've got an assistive
device.
The bathroom was nice, with free period products and separate trashes for green and recycling.
FOOD
The food was good. A lot of it is Jewish soul food which is great. The kale salad and the blue cheese salads were both enjoyed by all. We found the cheese buns to be fine but not out of this world, but the carmelized onion jam they came with was fantastic.
Being gluten free, I appreciated the opportunity to have the same choices as everybody else. I ordered the fried chicken and asked them to replace the mashed potatoes it came with as I can't have potatoes. They gave me sautéed spinach which was an excellent choice of substitution.
The dish was adequate for me personally. The other people I dined with were in love with the food they ordered so I felt like my dish in particular was an outlier. The chicken was seasoned but I wish it came with a sauce of some kind. The spinach was good but very salty. The slaw it came with was really nice, I'd have it again for sure. I liked the honey they gave me for the cornbread-- very floral. The cornbread itself was dry and crumbly. It really could have done with some bits of fresh corn to moisten it up and add much needed corn flavor to the bread itself.
I also got the ginger cinnamon mocktail for $14. It was interesting and certainly gingery and a great replacement for an alcoholic drink-- same sort of flavor profile and vibe as a dry white wine. I couldn't taste the cinnamon.
They brought a small dish of ice cream to celebrate our birthday, which was very kind of them.

Was completely safe and they asked us about food allergies before we ordered. Food was so good, especially the fried chicken, that even with reviews and assurances I was still a little nervous eating it. But I experienced no issues.

Eaten here several times! Basically everything is gluten free or can be gluten free (even the dessert!). Never gotten sick, felt super safe. The waiters were knowledgeable and the kitchen staff were knowledgeable. Also ate here while pregnant and they were able to accommodate my meal to remove an item that wasn’t pregnancy safe. Fantastic place for special occasions and date nights, would definitely recommend!

Firefly is a delightful, delicious, upscale-casual restaurant at the top of Noe Valley. The owner’s kids have celiac and they are very aware. Almost everything is GF or can be made GF. It’s our family’s favorite.

What a great dining experience. Friends had heard about this restaurant but not yet visited — and gosh, are we happy they let us join them! The menu is mostly gluten free — and where it is not, alternatives were available. The flavors were well paired — the artichoke and green olive salad is a great way to start a meal. The wine list offers a great variety at most price points. From a truly gluten free perspective, the max and cheese was good — would have like a little more flavor, but that’s probably personal preference. The friend chicken was next level — perfect mix of crispy and moist — and not too greasy. The brownie sundae featured salted caramel drizzle and crispy corn flakes — it was great way to end the meal. All in all, this was a delicious meal and we highly recommend the visit.

98% of the menu was gluten-free, including the Brazilian cheese bread as a starter and most of the entrées. I would highly recommend it if you are gluten sensitive or celiac. There is sitting outside with heat lamps or inside. The restaurant is small and gets filled up quickly so I would recommend reservations. It was the first time I had actually had fried chicken in about 20 years and it was delicious! It was amazing to see that they use a dedicated fryer so all the fried items are gluten-free.

As others have stated, everything on the menu is gluten free except for the biscuit that can be served with the fried chicken. We ordered the Brazilian cheese bread, the parmesan truffle brussel sprouts, the fried chicken with the gluten free cornbread replacement for the biscuit, and the trout. Everything was delicious, and they take allergens and preferences very seriously.

Seriously such amazing food and atmosphere. You feel like your leaving everything in the way there but honestly it couldn’t fit this hidden gem anymore then it does. I am celiac and it was so nice to know everything on the menu was safe for me other than the biscuit which i was assured stayed in a separate space.
I am grateful and full off some comfort food

The best!!! I always recommend this place for anyone who is GF/celiac. It’s hard not to order everything on the menu (except the biscuits which I think is the only gluten item). The chef is celiac so I felt super safe eating here.

As others have said, almost entire menu is gluten free. You can happily order without feeling like you are making any sacrifices or being relegated to a small corner of the menu. At the same time, it doesn’t have the feel of having had to hunt down a gluten-free, health-food restaurant (not that there is anything wrong with those), so your dining partners don’t feel like they were dragged along…. Ordering the pao de queijo was like going back to pre-celiac days.

Everything except for the biscuit is gluten free and they’re very aware of allergy concerns. It was lovely to have a gluten free menu (including desserts) that includes items that are harder to find GF, such as the fried chicken that I had. It’s definitely a pricier place so more for a night out than everyday dining. Food was excellent.

Excellent wait staff/servers. Chef/owner and family is celiac. They get it. I felt safe but I asked for a pan seared piece of fish and grilled veggies. They gave me a swordfish and grilled veggies. Delicious. Would love to go back again.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We had five dishes split between the two of us including radish cakes, Brazilian bread, Mac and cheese, potato kugel, and dolce delectable dessert. Finally went for the first time and can already say it’s my new favorite. The dishes were almost exclusively GF (when I went, only the biscuits had gluten), and were all interesting, delicious, and different from all the other GF options in SF. Our server was so friendly, and it seems like the restaurant had truly fulfilled its goal (see their origin story on the website).

All gf restaurant, it was amazing. I’m celiac and very sensitive, didn’t get sick at all. I got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gf cornbread, it was incredible! Will have to go back and try one of their desserts (all gf!). The atmosphere is great too, no compromises there, and my non gf friends liked their food a lot too!

I’ve eaten here a couple of times and have loved it! Everything on the menu is GF except the biscuit (apparently it’s sooo good that they can’t get rid of it lol). The Mac and cheese was so good! And I love the Brazilian cheese buns. Even the dessert menu is all GF, and both things I tried were awesome. In addition, the staff are super nice! Highly recommend going here for a good experience.
It’s fun to get a few different things and share with your dinner companion!

I love this place, it is my favorite for special occasions; and they really get the GF thing. Nearly everything on their menu is gluten free, they are extremely careful and their staff very much understands "I have Celiac disease." Have eaten here many times and never once had any issues. The head chef and the owners children all have celiac. I've never felt safer dining anywhere since dx. The staff is incredible and mostly women...And I do love a lady-ran business! Everything was delicious. I had the short ribs, good size portion (rare in sf), the sauce (!) I don't know how you make sauce that good with no flour, and the meat was tender and flavorful. Mac and cheese was awesome but very dairy forward. Brazilian cheese ball things are sooo good don't miss em
