Wonderful gluten free sub. While it is prepared in areas that have gluten- workers change their gloves and instruments when handling the bread. They do not cut the sub to avoid cross contamination. There has never been a time where I have gotten sick and I have celiac.
Twice I have gone to the one in Sioux City, IA 6 months apart. Both times they were out of gluten free bread. They charged us, and let us walk out of the store thinking we had our order without telling us they didn’t put the gluten free sandwiches in. We had to go back and have them pay us for the orders we didn’t receive. Had we not noticed they would’ve allowed us to pay without ever receiving our food. Not to mention the manager was extremely disrespectful both times. We will not be back!
Part of this is on me. I was the first there and was getting sandwiches for me and family. asked for Gluten free bread cause I didn't want cross contamination and I ordered both regular and gf subs at the same time. Didn't realize until they were about done she was making them at the same time with no glove swap. These companies really need some allergy education.
I’ve been here multiple times in the last month after reviewing experiences at other firehouse subs across Ontario both on here and Ontario Celiacs on Facebook. The staff take all the necessary precautions when you state you have a gluten allergy. The sub was always prepared in a separate area with a dedicated cutting board only taken out for gluten allergy and celiac orders. All ingredients used are from fresh bins to avoid cross contact. The bun itself is made my Schar, and is delicious! My go-to sub is the turkey bacon ranch, in which all the ingredients are gluten free.
Such a good gluten free sandwich & I really enjoyed my experience!
Every time I go to Firehouse they change their gloves they clean the station before making my food and are really cautious of cross contamination. The manager suggested that I do not get my sandwich heated due to possible crumbs which I appreciated. The bread is scharrs which is yummy! I would suggest double meat cause if not it is a small sandwich but always yummy.
