Burgers are 100% beef with no fillers. Fries are potato only - no coating. Nothing but fries cooked in the fryer. You can get your burger in a "bowl" without the bun and server/kitchen were very conscientious and inquired if my requests were for an "allergy" and they were careful.
Big fan of Five Guys because they have a gluten free fryer (they don't make any fried items with gluten) and their fries are deliciously fresh. I've been asked if I had any food allergies here before I could declare my celiac and I feel good about their kitchen handling. Burgers are gluten free as a lettuce wrap, a little drippy here but worth it. Great food!
Maybe ok with the lettuce wrapped burger. They changed gloves & were careful but I would recommend not eating the fries. They don’t fry anything but potatoes but they don’t change gloves between handling burgers & the fries. They build regular burgers & then grab handfuls of fries to drop in the fryer. I had a mild reaction.
I have celiac and ordered a lettuce burger and small fries. Told them about my allergy and they were super nice about changing gloves and making sure there was no CC. Will definitely be returning more!
Told the cashier I can't eat gluten, and my meal needs to be prepared with safe handling. She told me she never heard of this allergen and asked her manager who happened to be nearby. The manager was knowledgeable and told me who will be preparing my meal. The cook changed her gloves as the cashier took my order. I ordered a lettuce wrapped little burger and little fries. Since I'm also dairy-free and nut-free, I really wanted fries and I know they use peanut oil to cook their fries, I won't order the fries again eventhough they were fresh and soooooo good. The only reaction I did notice, I was a little bloated after the meal which I know was the peanut oil. Overall I felt fine.
This place is celiac friendly :)
Had an issue with the staff not understanding that my food need to not be kept with the other gluten items. They ended up tossing everything into one bag with the wrap not fully covering everything. When this was brought up to the manger the did remake it and took the mistake very seriously. But i still didn’t get fries. Oh well.
Got sick. The guy up front was great told everyone in back did everything he was supposed to - told them gluten allergy Should of known when I heard the people in back complaining about the “entire order” being gluten free. Should have walked out at that point but stayed, ate and got sick had to drive 8 more hours to get home- not fun policy is only good as the employees following it
Fantastic! They will serve the burger in a lettuce wrap or bowl for you.
NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY. Had cheeseburger no bun and fries. While very good - I was Doubled over after 20 minutes of eating. Cross contamination?! Be careful. The person taking my order seemed confused about Celiac and gluten free.
Aug 4, 2019- Another great 5 Guys experience. This chain has become my go to when I travel for work or play. This location suggested that I get my allergy burger (lettuce wrap) in a bowl. They constructed my wrap on a bed of additional lettuce so that it could be picked up and eaten or eaten like a salad. I will order this way at all 5 Guys locations in the future. Fantastic!
You can order a burger in a bowl or lettuce wrap. They will ask if it’s an allergy and yell back letting them know. They change gloves. Fries are safe to eat as it’s the only thing they use their fryers for. Have eaten here several times.
The only thing they fry is fries, nothing else is fried there. Let them know you have an allergy and they take precautions for your burger. It'll take a little longer, but worth it. Everything is fried in peanut oil, so not peanut allergy safe at all and if you're not used to peanut oil you may find yourself gassy/bloated but it's not from gluten since they only fry fries. I have celiac and wheat allergy and I've never gotten sick there.
Second visit Aug 2, 2019. This is the best 5 guys Allergy burger, any location. They don't skimp on the lettuce for your wrap like other locations do when you order. They also give you your burger wrap with a bowl for the inevitable falling apart. My only complaint is they don't have peanuts, but I am sympathetic to those with food allergies. :-) ATL C41 terminal location. Excellent 'Allergy burger', ie, burger wrap. Also offered it in bowl form. Very knowledgeable staff and food was safe for Celiac's (as always at Five Guys).
Went into this five guys for the first time today. Usually Five Guys is my “go to” in my area, but I will NEVER be back to this one. My husband told the first employee that I have Celiac Disease, he obviously was clueless. Meanwhile the only other employee that was there literally stood there with both hands touching two buns. The first employee talked to her in Spanish and then she took her hands from the buns and got out our patties and slapped them on the grill. That’s horrible cross contamination right there. We paid for the meal, but ended up throwing it away without taking one bite. Too risky there. Very inexperienced with celiac disease.
It’s hit or miss with their training on procedures. My husband watches them and has had to tell them twice that something they’d done would contaminate the food. Both times they apologized, threw it out and started again. They’re not perfect but willing to learn.
One of my go to places for a quick burger and fries. They are very careful and I have never been sick. I love that I can enjoy a lettuce wrap burger and fries!
I got a burger in a bowl! I put my own gluten free bread on it. They have an allergy menu online. I go here but the staff is hit-or-miss with paying attention to your gluten issues. You have to tell the staff not to cross-contaminate and hope for the best.
Had a bun-less burger and fries as they assured me only French fries go in their fryers so no chance of cross contamination. They don’t have anything else they fry on their menu. I am not sure how careful they are with food prep areas though. I had no reaction but I am not celiac, just very sensitive and intolerant. But for a place you can eat the fries at that’s pretty good!
UPDATE: I’ve not been cross contaminated twice here. So bummed. When we ate there the cashier relayed allergy to the cook and we got 2 burger bowls and one fry and myself and 2 kids felt great after.
They asked if the kids meals was allergy or preference. When I told them allergies they changed gloves had one guy in charge of the order and made sure it was done right. Thankful for this place and will definitely be coming back!!
I watched the worker make a hamburger with a bun and then grab a handful of fries with the same gloves that touched the bun and throw a handful of fries into the fryer and therefore contaminating the fryer!!!
Second trip, July 2019. These guys handle the 'Allergy burger' very well. They have a dedicated frier and make a mean lettuce wrapped burger. I always order extra lettuce and they don't fall apart. Excellent. Lettuce wrapped burgers and dedicated frier for French fries. Thank-you.
5 guys is all about advocacy. They can do it totally right and I’ve never gotten sick there but you need to make sure the folks listen to you, separate your food in a bag if you are eating with other folks. Milkshakes are not GF.
