DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC. I did all that I could to ensure the staff knew about my Celiac Disease. I noted it on the reservation, I emailed the manager, I got a .PDF of the allergens, and I alerted our server. She couldn't remember what was gluten free. That was fine because I had the .PDF with me. She checked with the manager and told me what was off limits. I went to the salad bar and fixed my plate and after I had started eating, she came back and in horror told me she had "FORGOT" to say the dressings contained wheat. I had already eaten most of my salad. She got the manager and he said "The dressings might have gluten." I repeated, in disbelief, "They MIGHT have gluten?" then he corrected himself saying "They DO have gluten." Offered to remake my salad but what was the point? I'd already come in contact with my allergen. The server then stood awkwardly by our table for at least 15 minutes asking if I needed to leave. I explained I wouldn't need the hospital, I'd just get very sick for the next two weeks. She asked if we were going to leave once more and I said No, this is my husbands birthday and Im not going to ruin it for him. After we finished dinner she brought us the check without a single word. I stopped her saying we wanted dessert. It's his birthday, after all. She said none of the desserts are gluten free. I knew Creme Brulee should definitely be gluten free, and asked her to check. I knew then that they had NO idea what gluten was. Why else would she tell me all desserts are off limits without even checking? She brought the dessert and then the check without much of an apology. After all the trouble, they did not even comp my meal. I am the LAST person to ever ask for a manager, send back food, or raise a fuss, but this to me was ridiculous. After being given an outdated allergen .PDF (which is illegal by the way), server "forgot" my allergy, and the rude service, we will NEVER come back to Fogo de Chao.
What an amazing experience... Nearly everything is gluten free (including the cheese bread!) and delicious! Come hungry because it's A LOT of food! Management knowledgeable about gluten free and accommodating. Delicious!
Manager didn't tell me everything that had gluten in it because I avoided all of the foods he said, but I still definitely got gluten some how. Food tastes great, but definitely made me very sick afterwards, and for 2 people at lunch on a week day and no extra anything except we had 2 teas, it was $100. not worth it for getting sick.
Amazing experience!! Gave us the allergy menu so I could look over every item throughout the whole dinner. The bread was so good and I loved that almost everything there is gluten free! They were very knowledgeable and made sure to explain the ingredients in every item we got.
Fogo is a great chain for Celiacs. Make sure to mention your condition to the host(ess) who will ask that the floor manager give you a tour around the salad bar to show you what to avoid. Everything that comes to the table (via the gauchos serving meats and via your waiter) are gluten free except: the chicken, the sausage, and the parmesan crusted pork due to cross contamination potential. So, please do go and eat all of the Brazilian cheese bread you can fit.
There are only two things in the restaurant with gluten: beer marinated chicken, and bread they don’t bring to your table and keep segregated from the veggie/salad bar. You’d think that would be enough, but they also have warm cassava flour and cheese rolls that are simply. AMAZING. The only downside? $$$$$
Carnivore’s delight. Tried this restaurant while visiting Boston. A good place to go when you’re hungry! Majority of the menu is gluten free. The manager came over and spoke with us about our their practices and what was not safe. Staff seemed to have conflicting opinions on the grilled zucchini’s status so we steered clear of it.
There’s such a large variety of items here, there’s plenty that’s gluten free, though you have to ask about specific things but the servers will go and double check with the kitchen. The dinner rolls they serve are gluten free, as the Brazilians use tapioca flour and cheese to make puffy little popover type breads. All and all delicious and safe if you are vigilant
I’ve been there twice and it’s always amazing! The meats are delicious! I love the variety of fresh fruit, salads, pickles and cheeses in their Market Place bar. The seasonal soup is delicious! And the tiny puffed tapioca bread melts in your mouth - so delicious! The service is top notch and the staff are knowledgeable. The papaya cream dessert is deliciously decadent! Just be careful to stop eating before you are too full! Great place for celebrating a special occasion like Mother’s Day.
I was super impressed! I made a reservation online and mentioned my celiac disease and my other food allergies. Within 24 hours of making the reservation I received an email with a full allergen list for my reference. When I arrived the manager came over and brought the list and went through every item they serve to ensure I knew exactly what I could and couldn’t eat. They even offered to prepare special items to meet my needs. It was an amazing experience and excellent food!!!
Almost everything gluten free The only thing containing gluten is French bread which was separated from the buffet and therefore not high risk of cross-contamination. My daughter did not have any reactions and his supersensitive. The salad bar lunch is a great deal $15 for a beautiful salad buffet. If you choose to have the meat courses be prepared for an expensive meal. My son did say he thought it was the best meat he ever had. Cheese bread so good
Ate here last night for my husband's birthday. He has celiac and it was great that almost everything on the menu is safe for him to eat...including the yummy bread they bring. The salad bar was amazing (i skipped the meat and just had this) and full of lots of interesting items. We each had a cocktail and a glass of wine. Both good but the drinks are a little on the pricey side for the suburbs. The staff was very knowledgeable about which items weren't GF and if they weren't 100% sure they went into the kitchen to ask. They also gave my husband a complimentary dessert for his birthday. it is expensive, so it is more of a special occasion kind if place but we will return.
I had an excellent meal last night! The salad bar is unreal in the offerings they have (cheeses, smoked salmon, beautiful vegetables, olives...I could go on) & most everything is GF. They have some crackers or bread or something off to the side that isn't GF but I didn't even pay attention to that because I was in salad bar heaven. The meats were great too. They clearly stated that the only meats that aren't GF are the chicken legs and the sausage, which they serve together, so there wasn't worry of contamination. But, I gotta say my favorite part of the meal was the naturally gluten free Paõ De Queijo (cheese bread!!) that they have at the table. I ate 5, during a business dinner, and I'm not even sorry. I definitely plan on going back!
We have multiple food allergies in our family in addition to celiac. The food manager came to our table himself and gave us a highlighted list to make our selections easier. He brought my daughter specific food she could eat so she wouldn't feel left out, and He also came to check on us multiple times thru the meal and happily answered all of our questions with a smile. Amazing service, fabulous food, and completely worth the price!
I went last night for the first time. when I asked if they are gluten free, she said mostly. And told me a few things. She said she would send a manager out to give me a more complete list. so I waited. after about 5 min I decided I could figure it out. after I finished my first plate the manager comes over to let me know that they are 95% gluten free! unfortunately I ate one of the items that are not. that's my luck. I think if the waitress would have known, or the manager had come sooner... but just so you know. don't eat the Cesar salad dressing. ugh
EXCELLENT! GF cheddar rolls without asking ... so good. Starts with a trip to the most extensive salad bar, which is a red wine pairing dream (wonderful meats, cheeses, fruits and salads).. then, when you are ready, they proceed to offer 16, yes 16, different protein offerings to your tableside. Incredible food and a fun experience. Attentive staff, highly highly recommended.
Hands down Celiac paradise. Slightly expensive but well worth it, even if you only get the salad bar. Don't be fooled, the salad bar has more than enough to keep you satisfied! They even have an allergy menu so you know what is "off limits."
As soon as I said I was gf, they sent the manager over to talk about what I could and could not have. She was very knowledgeable and even offered to grab salad bar items for me from the back to avoid cc. She even had several items cooked just for me as they were not readily available. Amazing experience, will be back!
Delicious!! Almost everything is gf except chicken legs ... if you ask for sausages from the back I will bring them out where they haven’t touched the chicken legs. Also lots of choices that are dairy free, including soup that we never get (this one is made with coconut milk). Excellent service and excellent food. Highly recommend!
One of my favorite spots in Indy for an excellent gf meal. I never have to worry "is this gf" because other than two meats, EVERYTHING is gf! And the bread!!! To die for!!! My other suggestion to save $$$: go for brunch on the weekend. Just be a little more cautious as more things are non-gf.
Almost everything is gluten free! The manager came to our table to go over what was gluten free. We also had two lactose intolerant family members so they made the polenta without cheese. So many options including several desserts. The meats are just to die for! It is ridiculously expensive but incredible dining experience.
