The staff was very helpful and very knowledgeable about GF! Had the GF Bacon Popper pizza, GF Cheese bread, Vegan Cheese pepperoni pizza, and tossed salads

I was admitted to the emergency room on January 1, 4 hours after eating here. I ordered a gluten free pizza. I will not be back. I called and spoke to a manager a day later. She said she would make note of it. She didn’t even ask how I was doing during the phone call. I just didn’t feel reassured that they were going to do anything to follow up.
No
Not safe for celiac; gf pizza crust was soggy and undercooked.

I used my Nima sensor on a gluten free pizza with the vegan cheese and it came back positive for gluten. The servers are very confident in their practices but they openly admit there is flour everywhere in the kitchen. Sadly, it’s not safe!

Update: I have received some additional information regarding processes used to to prevent cross contamination. Seems like they do take this seriously. As such I'm upgrading my star rating to about the current average so that their overall rating is not affected by these observations. If you decide to eat here, and have celiac disease or are otherwise sensitive, I would suggest verifying cross contamination prevention steps prior to dining.
Original Review: I have not eaten at Fong's, but contacted the manager at the Ankeny location to ask about what procedures were in place to prevent cross contamination and I received this response...
"I have to be honest with you that there is gluten in the air in our kitchen. We use lots of flour when we are building our pizzas. Even though gluten free pizzas aren't made right next to our other pizzas, it has the potential of getting flour on it. We do also use a clean pizza cutter that is dedicated to gluten free pizzas but it also has the same
potential of getting flour from the air on it."
So... A dedicated pizza cutter it is. Wow. I'm floored that this is, currently, one of the highest rated gluten free restaurants in the Des Moines area on Find Me Gluten Free.
First time eating here yesterday since I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Lots of options which was great and they have their menu labeled nicely! When I told the waitress I was celiac, she said she would make sure to tell the cook as they take this very seriously and don’t want any cross contamination for us. Great experience!

I’ve ate here several times with no issues. They also have vegan cheese!

Yummy!! Our house is divided on the best gf pizza, but Fong’s is my fav and this is my review so....it’s tops in my book! They have so many options for celiac and happy hour drinks are so good!

We met a friend for dinner and I was impressed. The pizza is amazing, our server was very knowledgeable about allergies, and the prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Not sure if it was bad luck but I definitely felt contaminated after eating there😕 I took the risk but it was really expensive for such a tiny pizza! Dang it
Great pizza and cheese sticks! Tons of options and very friendly and accommodating staff!
One of the best gluten-free pizzas I've ever had! No reaction whatsoever. I wish they would open up a location in Ames.

Have tried so many at home and restaurant GF pizzas, and Fongs is by FAR the best the best GF pizza crust and pizza! It's not burnt or mushy! Heaven sent for GF folks! I'm not extreme spectrum, do I don't know about extreme contamination, but as far has not having gluten in it, it's totally safe.

Very good pizza and they know their menu. All GF or GF modification available items are marked. The Fongolian Beef will not disappoint. Great waitstaff!

food was good, but pricey! 2 sodas, 1 gf cheese bread, 1 small gf pizza and 1 small non-gf....$46.60 Before tip.

Super amazing gluten free pizza and gf cheesy bread. Wish they had more locations so I could enjoy their pizza whenever I want!

Glad they have quite a few GF options, but our pizza was very light on toppings.
Delicious pizza and very knowledgeable staff. They can make almost any of their pizzas gluten free. In fact, it is so good that we thought they had served us the wrong pizza because the crust tastes just like regular crust. They reassured us and everyone was fine the next day.

Lots of gluten free options!

I love Fong's Pizza. I have been multiple times to both the Ankeny and Des Moines locations. Fong's has an extensive gluten free menu and can make some items gluten free, such as the cheesy bread. I thoroughly enjoyed the gluten-free cheesy bread and my pizza! I have had the Iowan, Fongolian Beef, and Meatlovers. They also have gluten-free alcohol. Really good pizza - highly recommend Fong's Pizza!!

My all time favorite gluten free pizza! Only downside there is no build your own option. I suggest sesame chicken, taco, or the garlic and honey (my fav). I have never been cross contaminated here.
So many options for pizza here. I felt like there were plenty of options clearly listed on the main menu. I didn't have to question what toppings I could and couldn't have. Everything was very easy. Very clean and new in Ankeny. Definitely would recommend.
