We just stopped in for drinks at Frenchys Rockaway on the beach. The menu had 7 drinks marked GF and the waiter offered to tailor others. Try the Basil Berry Cooler or the 3 Daughters Cider brewed in St. Pete’s
Fries are breaded.
Oil used for fryer is rice oil (mentioning in case you have peanut or soy allergies).
No dedicated fryer.

Everything is fried in the same fryer. I risked it and got boiled shrimp. It was ok but like the only thing that seemed safe. The waitress told me that their oil is A high enough temp I should be fine so they aren’t very knowledgeable about celiac.

Staff was very knowledgeable. Even their alcoholic beverages were marked gluten free. I had the grilled grouper, garlic mashed potatoes and mixed veggies. I also added a side Cesar salad. It was good and I didn’t get sick. Would like to return to try some of the other options for food.
Although the staff was knowledgeable, there was a GF menu, and the food did not get me sick, the food was mediocre in quality. On top of that the portions are lacking compared to the non GF items on their menu.
Wow! This is the first time since I have been in Clearwater Beach (we have been on vacation for 3 full days so far) that all staff - front and back of the house - went out of the way to make sure my food was safe from cross-contamination. All of my questions were answered with a smile! My hot dog was cooked in a separate pan. After speaking to the bartender, Jay, he made it clear that they take all “allergies” seriously. Each person, down to the runner, must wash their hands before touching the plate that will be served to you. When my food came out, it had a huge flag that designated the allergy. I truly appreciated the lengths Frenchy’s Rockaway went to allow me to eat a GF meal without worry. We will be going back!
Very knowledgeable waiter. He told me they will switch gloves when preparing the food. When my meal came out it was marked with an allergy flag. Waiter was well aware of cross contamination. Would recommend. Also as a plus they had all of the drinks marked, this is the only restaurant in the area that seemed safe to get a frozen drink.
The wait staff was wonderful, as is the view. But unfortunately there was almost nothing on the menu I could eat. In contrast to other reviews, there was no GF menu and most items, including jerk and Cajun, were not GF.
Gf menu. Great choices. Cooked separately. Came with an allergy flag. Good prices. Good food
Our server was knowledgeable which was great but I was disappointed with the food. $10 for a small piece of chicken with cheese on and mushrooms. Mushrooms were not even listed on the menu, but I like mushrooms so it was okay.
Great selection and a separate GF menu. The patio area is breezy and has an amazing view of the beach!
Gluten free menu offered. Our server was kind enough to point out about my French fry order being in a shared fryer, which I was ok with. I appreciated her attentiveness with the issue. I had grouper, fruit and fries. Delish!
The food choices were decent and they fed 3 celiacs without getting us sick. Service was good even though they were packed. Wait staff seemed knowledgeable.
I wouldn't recommend this place for celiacs and not highly for those with sensitivity - they say at the top of the GF menu that they can't guarantee there isn't some cross contamination. And the waiter admitted that "every day they find out something they serve has gluten in it." The sandwiches on the GF menu don't come with gf bread or buns - just the insides of the sandwich. Kind of lame. But they did offer plenty of salads and entrees.
Pretty big menu for a small restaurant. I had the grilled mahi mahi with mashed potatoes (yum) and coconut rice. Very good! Would def go back again!
Ordered the fish tacos on corn tortillas. They brought out flour tortillas. Also asked for the jambalaya which we were told was gluten free and asked for no bread. They brought the bread anyways. However, The other food was tasty.
Great gluten free key lime. Some options but not huge. Waitress of mine was knowledgable
None of the waiters understand what gluten is. I was most definitely glutened there. So sick the rest of my vacation.
went to Frenchy's south beach. only place i ate at that got me sick. cheap prices but u get what u Pay for
They allowed us to get creative for our son, grilled chicken cut up and have lays chips. We ordered the grilled seafood medley and had no issues. Sauce was brought out with the meals but we were told not to eat them. (They were in their own container with a lid). Service was slow but food was good!
Do not eat here unless you want to get sick. They have a gluten-free menu but have no idea what they are doing. I ate here on 2 separate occasions; I ordered the seafood ceviche which should be naturally gluten free...just seafood marinated in lime juices. For some reason, they brought it out with some sort of chips on top. When I asked the food runner if these chips were fried separately from other breaded items, he responded "Yes, they were cooked in a dedicated fryer." With such confidence, I proceeded to eat, only to have the server run out and tell me there is no desisted fryer. I went back to Frenchy's today to try once more hoping it was a fluke; unfortunately not. I ordered the tuna over a bed of mandarins oranges and greens; it came out with an open Asian salad dressing which spilled onto my salad. When I asked the server if the dressing was gluten-free she said she didn't know. She asked the chefs and sure enough she brought out new salad dressing bc they didn't think so. I was so close to eating that salad dressing too! Don't eat here unless you feel like interrogating them about every item they bring out to you.
