Access note for those visiting the island in summer: We live here now, and went to Front Street Grill on a Thursday in late February, and were easily able to get a reservation and window-side seat. Apparently January-March are great months for this! They told us that they don’t accept reservations at all between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and the wait on a summer evening can be up to two hours for a table. So I just wanted to let folks know that. Now for the food: The green curry mussels with gluten free garlic toast were to die for. I would definitely go back and just get those and a salad and call it dinner! Everything else we tried…cioppino, clams in white wine/garlic and a steak dinner for a non-seafood eater…were fine. Not outstanding, but good food with good service with a beautiful view. Also the only gluten free dessert they had was a vanilla crème brûlée. I don’t like crème brûlée but those in our family who ate it said it was very good crème brûlée.
They do have some gf options. I have stayed with the cioppino which is good but not mid blowing. They offer a variety of mussel dishes, most of not all gf. They do offer some Gf bead which I have passed on due to egg ingredients, but would be a great option for many. A great view with indoor and outdoor seating.
I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and they made sure that I knew there was a good chance of contamination with the chicken, so decided to do something else. Had white chocolate creme brûlée for dessert, so good. Their wine pours are generous, although that has nothing to do with GF! Very nice staff and they seem knowledgeable.
Very knowledgeable staff. Coconut green curry mussles are super yummy! I accepted the gluten free garlic toast as the staff said she could make it sure it was toasted separately. I don't think it was because I had a reaction and had gotten sick. Not certain 100% of course if it was that or if the coconut milk was gluten free, as us with Celiacs know you need to use certified gluten free only coconut milk.
I had the Penn Cove mussels in saffron cream and it was amazing. I opted not to get the GF bread they offer with it because it’s toasted on the same surface as regular bread. Most of the mussels dishes looked safe. I didn’t even really check out the rest of the menu because we went specifically for that.
Server asked if we were ok with cross contamination from fryer.
The food was super good!! We had burgers and sweet potato fries. The potato fries have a wheat coating and they notified us. They had great Covid protocols as well. Beautiful location!
This is a beautiful restaurant overlooking water. I really enjoyed the Copenhagen mussels with gluten-free garlic bread. The mussels were cooked to perfection and there’s nothing better than having Penn Cove mussels at Penn Cove.
The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about Celiac Disease, I wouldn’t consider this Gluten Friendly restaurant as there is a risk for cross contamination. We dined here and there were about 35% of the menu had GF options. I had the Lamb Burger on GF bread and mashed potatoes, it was very good and no issues of being Glutened. My husband had the mussels and pasta and said it was very good.
