Garage Buona Forchetta

WARNING: ALLERGIES/DIETARY RESTRICTIONS NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY

My daughter and I (Coronado locals) have celiac disease and went to Buona Forchetta for some gluten free pasta since it listed on the menu that they had gluten free options. We informed the waiter of our celiac disease when placing our order and asked if their gluten free pasta was cooked in different water to avoid cross contamination. The waiter told us they do not do that and were unwilling to do so because "if we did that for you this time, then we would have to do it for you and everyone else all the time". We informed him that this was not simply a dietary preference and a serious allergy/condition and they did not care and were not willing to accommodate us whatsoever. Their pizzas are also not safe for celiacs as they cook them in the normal pizza oven with regular pizzas and simply brush the flour off the stone. We do not recommend this place for anyone with allergies as they simply DO NOT CARE!

How would you rate the taste and quality of the gluten-free food you tried?

— Poor

Excellent food. They have GF pasta, gnocchi, focaccia and pizza and also vegan cheese which is a plus for us as we are also dairy intolerant. We've been to this location as well as the one in Liberty Station and have had good experiences each time. Love that this location sells a wide variety of packaged GF pastas as well. I don't know if it is safe for celiacs.

The pizza is awesome!! Can’t miss it. I’m not super sensitive but I didn’t get sick from it.

Lots of gluten free items on the menu including gluten free toast, which is what I ordered. I told the server that I have celiac. I’m guessing there was cross contamination on my toast as I became sick within 30 min of eating. It could have been contaminated with tongs that were used on something else.

Amazing care is taken with their GF pizza. Separate work area. Separate bowls and kitchen tools. Pies are baked in their own dedicated pans. (They do share the pizza oven with wheat pies). But every precaution is taken. The GF pizza is the best we have ever had. Amazing place.
