Great service and many choices off of GF menu
Many GF options although your server may make fun of you for being high maintenance :/
I have conflicting emotions about going to Granite City. I didn't like my reuban. I love reubans, and I really found GC's version just plain awful. I wasn't sick afterwards, but the food wasn't good for much of our table. Our server didn't seem educated. I won't be returning.
Granite City has an extensive gluten free menu. I have Celiac Disease, and I had no issues eating the flatbread pizza or burgers with gluten free bread. I also ordered chicken wings for an appetizer and the sauces are gluten-free. It was delicious!
I've only tried their dry rub wings, but they were good and I didn't get sick. It would be great if they would use more detail in the mixed drinks so people with celiacs could make an informed decision on drinks, there was only cocktail with enough information for me to know it was safe.
This was the first time I was at this restaurant and they have a gluten sensitive menu. I had a burger and the French onion soup even had gluten free bread! They have a dedicated gluten free fryer for fries. The only downside is the bun fell apart pretty quickly. The server was super knowledgeable and helpful. I would go back and eat here.
4 stars for service, smiles, and total knowledge of the staff, in regards to gluten free, low carb offerings. According to the Kitchen Manager, gluten free is difficult to purchase, and it often is more expensive. thus a gf pizza or flat bread dish costs more, and people need to expect that. Since only 1.4% of the population have celiac disease, there is not the demand, and wholesale food suppliers charge more, much more, and the customer at a restaurant need to expect that. My recent experience was fine... because I know prices are higher.; My flat bread pizza was great.
Have a gluten sensitive menu. Gf bun was delicious.
This place is very accommodating. The food is really good. Deducted 1 star since the GF menu options have been reduced over the past few years.
Big Gluten Free Menu. The waiter understood issues with gluten, the gluten free menu and how the food is prepared. The chef came to our table and explained how they take great care to prepare the gluten free food options. Dedicated areas for gluten free food preparation. The food was excellent! Highly recommended. Updated - July 2016: Unfortunately they've reduced the size of their gluten free options. The pulled pork used to be gluten free but now they are braising it with their beer which makes it full of gluten. The wait staff and cooks don't seem to understand the changes. To them it seems the same. I took a star away as a result and don't frequent the restaurant as much. Too bad.
Not safe for celiacs. Cross-contamination is a major issue.
They had a separate GF menu. After placing my order, I didn't have a ton of confidence that there was a good awareness of Celiacs, and I was concerned about the possibility of getting sick. I am happy to say that I didn't get sick and that the food was actually really good.
Waiter was great, food was good. But the manager did NOT like us asking any questions about the menu. She seemed very defensive and put off by us asking a simple question about ingredients.
Hmm somethings happened here... They downsized to a VERY small menu, it didn't even have steak or potatoes in it any longer. Could be a good thing to keep gluten free items safe but choices were super disappointing
ordered their Bedda Chedda burger and not on was the burger excellent, but the GF bun was like a bunch should be - light and airy and flavorful, not dense, heavy and cardboard tasting. there were several choices from appetizers, salads, Sandwiches, burgers and entrees! Even a couple of desserts. Will definitely add this to my list.
Menu was very restricted. They not had wings listed as gf but they are fried in a common fryer. Bonus points for the staff who offered that info and brought me veggies and ranch (which they confirmed was gf). Much appreciated but sad they reduced the menu.
My family and I have eaten at Granite City three times over the last two months. There steak was cooked GF on designate grill, the sandwiches were great and I loved their gluten free bread. There is a gluten free menu, and there is even a dessert, creme brulee, gluten free. It was delicious. Their fryer is not dedicated gf only so no fries or house made chips. But the salads w/o croutons are great and so is their BLT. Their mashed potatoes and steamed veggies go great with the steak. People with gluten issues should try this restaurant. With gluten free bread, salads, sandwiches, steaks, sides and dessert....they have a lot to offer! Just make sure to request a GF menu and communicate well with your server!
While Granite City Food & Brewery has a separate GF menu, those with a gluten allergy MUST be sure your server acknowledges this or you will likely get sick. Employees need a better understanding that this condition isn't a choice--it's a reality for those of us with food allergies.
GC used to have a kickass gluten free menu. That has changed. The menu now has 8 items. 4 salads, chicken wings, and 3 burgers. No fish, no chicken, no sandwiches, no steaks. Their gluten free sides are no longer listed. The best french fry substitute (in my opinion), the baked potato, has also been removed. I eat A LOT of salad being gluten free and don't understand why that continues to be the only option. I expressed my distress to the waitress and she replied with "I just work here". So their staff isn't well trained either. Pizza hut has more gluten free options, and they deliver.
couldn't find anything on the menu that was GF. the waiter told me an appetizer was GF, I ordered it, and immediately got sick. they offer no cider/GF beer options for celiac. they serve Omission but that is not celiac safe and makes me sick. totally disappointed and won't go back despite living very close.
Told the waitress I have celiac, she was very knowledgeable. Then my salad came out with croutons!!
Not good for Celiacs. After asking them to take extra precautions to make sure my burger was GF. They served me a burger with a bun that just looked way to good to be gluten free. After 10 minutes trying to flag down our waitress she took it back to the kitchen and it was indeed a gluten filled bun. If I didn't catch it I would have been severely glutened. By the time my meal came out gluten free, my husband who insisted on waiting to eat had a cold dinner. They never apologized or offered to take it off the bill. We will not go back.
Have gluten and soy allergies. Waiter and I had a hard time finding something I could eat safely. Not a single salad due to soy being in EVERY dressing, including their Olive oil (an olive/ soy blend). Settled on a burger without bun and a bottle of water. the burger was served with one shred of lettuce, a couple of tiny pieces of onion and a razor thin slice of tomato in the center of a big empty plate. Meat patty, water and tip=$20. Won't be back.
