Met with friends for dinner. I think this was my first visit after being diagnosed with Celiac's Disease. I asked for a gluten-free menu and they had one. Our table was deciding to order and appetizer and I look at the menu and it had both Nacho's and Chips and Salsa as being gluten free. I asked the waitress if they had a dedicated gluten-free fryer for the chips. She said they had multiple fryers, but didn't know if they had a gluten free one. She went back to check and came back. She said they didn't have a dedicated fryer and that all types of food, including wheat breaded foods, are cooked in all fryers. I told her, then, that the chips were not gluten free. She said she understood that and talked to the manager about taking them off the menu. His stance was that the raw food was gluten-free, so that was good enough. He didn't think cross contamination would be a problem. He also said that meny people were gluten-free for different reasons, and for me, I shouldn't order the chips, but for others it would be OK and the menu would stay as it was. The waitress was visible upset and taking my side in this.Anyway, I skipped the chips. I ordered ribs, salad (no croutons, cheese, or dressing), and sweet potato. The food was fine, but in the back of my mind, here is a company that doesn't really understand what it means to be gluten-free. I asked the waitress to make sure the kitchen staff changed gloves when they prepared my food. Maybe they did, maybe not. I think the waitress did a good job for the position she was in, but I really have no confidence in the restaurant as a whole. I really used to enjoy their food, but I don't think I will be going back.
