I have celiac and called the UWS location and spoke to someone about the items marked GF on the menu. He confirmed that they use a dedicated fryer for the gluten-free items, that the frying batters were all-purpose gluten-free flour, and that they weren’t using soy sauce. I ordered the GF salt and pepper shrimp and the GF pea shoots and enjoyed both!
The house special rice noodles are good but slightly under seasoned and don’t have a lot of meat. The scallion with beef or tofu also has good flavor. IF YOU HAVE CELIAC DON’T GET the salt and pepper shrimp because it is made in a shared fryer with gluten. We do come back a lot though because it is one of the few Chinese restaurants in ny that can do gluten free
I’ve now visited a couple of times. First time the food was special - varied and authentic seasonings. This time they seem to have used no seasoning at all.
They showed a photo of the scallion-seasoned oyster sauced dish with protein and vegetables and served it with a white sauce and only onions. I asked for soy sauce which gave it a little flavor but I don’t expect to have to season a dish in a restaurant. Second dish was nearly a pound of rice noodles which, similarly, were bare, with just the smallest portion of beef hidden beneath. We sent it back and it reemerged with a sizable amount of protein but barely seasoned noodles.
Don’t think I’ll be going back.
This is the 2nd time I have eaten there and became ill both times. I wasn't sure about the first time, I had a flare-up but I was hoping it was from something else. But, the 2nd time made it official. Oooff. It might not have been from gluten but there is definitely a ton of MSG (probably why it tastes so delicious) . I can tell by the weird taste and feeling on my tongue after I ate it. It gave me a 2 day flare-up. Bummer.
I haven't been able to find a Chinese restaurant that offers gluten-free menu items (and a substantial amount of them too) that taste authentic. This was a delightful find as the food (my wife: Scallion Style Chicken GF, myself: Hot Sauce Style Chicken) was excellent. The service was good as well, though I'm not sure if it's the safest option for someone with serious gluten intolerance. My wife is only gluten-sensitive so she's not affected if cross-contact happens (we don't know if they dedicate a gluten-free area/kitchen).
Stopped by on a Friday night with a friend around 630 and they were able to seat us right away.
The online gf menu has hard to get to because I only had a bar in my phone and they didn’t have a paper gf menu.
The server showed me what they had available on the main menu for gf options. Went w the salt and pepper shrimp which was absolutely amazing. Great flavor and the rice is very tasty tasty w little onion pieces in it. I’m still thinking about that meal.
Good service with a bit of an aggressive busser that kept wanting to take my plate and near empty glass. We got a laugh out of it.
Thanks for a great meal and evening
Suuuper tasty GF Chinese food. Solid GF menu. I’m always nervous ordering Chinese, but this went really well! I got the scallion chicken and had zero cross contamination issues. On seamless they don’t let you add notes (weird) but I called to double check they take the right precautions. Treat yourself!
About half of the very large menu is available GF. Service is fast. Food was good. No complaints.
