Under new ownership. Had NO food, only coffee. Workers were very young, perhaps not completely trained. Couldn’t pay with cash. Got a cappachino and tasted like coffee flavored milk. Said they were working on food, maybe in a week or two. If you are relying on this place for a gluten free meal when traveling, I wouldn’t hold my breath. They mean well and were very nice, but not knowledgeable about the food business.
— No gluten-free information on the menu

Ate here last September and it was amazing. Unfortunately stopped by today and they are temporarily closed. So call before you go.

Happy Creek Coffee and Tea only serves gluten free food so there isn't any cross contamination. Excellent variety at the steel cut oatmeal (dedicated gf) and yogurt bar! Wonderful gluten free baked goods that are made on site- including muffins, biscotti, cookies and more! Some are vegan! Organic lettuce and spinach in salads! All dressings made on site as well (most are vegan) Fresh juices and real fruit smoothies! And of course excellent coffee (roasted on site as well) and teas! A must go-to when near Front Royal!

This seems to be closed and now part of another store that offers their coffee ? but not their menu ? (A bit unclear.) We phoned to find out if it was celiac safe and the person who answered said they had gluten-free bread but it wasn’t clear that it’s celiac safe
A wonderful local coffee and sandwich shop. Awesome choice of specialty hot cocoa drinks. A little off the regular path, but worth the visit. Very knowledgeable about gluten-free.

Happy food, drink, & vibe: I don’t often write reviews; however, this I’m writing while still sitting here in this incredibly warm and happy hidden gem. We left Charlottesville too early to find a place to get coffee that wasn’t a Starbucks. I looked for something on our way back north towards Vermont. This place kept coming up, but seemed a bit off the beaten path. We decided to take the country road up and I’m so glad we did. Not only was the drive utterly breathtaking, but Happy Creek went above what I was expecting. Sometimes folks like us get excited about the tiniest morsel of options. Not so here. We had breakfast panini. They were delicious, but the espresso drinks were off the hook. Incredible. There was also everything you ever wanted from an old school coffee place: zines, local kombucha and chocolate, odds and ends… As a practical tip: the place is in an old barn on high st. It doesn’t have a sign, so look for a beigish peach place. The small door is on high and there is a patio around back. The tiny door will take you to heaven.

I read all the reviews before going and I was disappointed that a full breakfast menu mentioned in some of the other posts didn’t exist. It’s almost like it was a different cafe, that said, the staff was friendly, cookies were tasty, service is a leisurely.

Very disappointed today. This is probably the 9th or 10th time that I’ve come here, and I always look forward to having a gluten-free treat and a good cup of coffee here when I’m in town. I usually have to wait, but I don’t mind doing so for fresh coffee. This afternoon I came in, asked the young lady for an iced coffee, and within 30 seconds she had handed me a cup of cool pale beige liquid with no ice and very little coffee in evidence. I added lots of milk and simple syrup to the cup and requested some ice, but I think I’m headed to McDonalds for coffee now. The gf donut was good. **Update: the owner (or manager?) did reach out in response to a direct message I sent. He explained to me that this is how they make their “iced coffee.” He encouraged me to be very clear with the baristas about what I want so that they can make me something better suited to my preferences. He was very apologetic and listened well. Based on his response and my previous experiences, I’m changing my rating from 2 stars to 4. I’ll give them another try today.

Adorable shop, friendly staff, GREAT coffee. Stopped in to sample their baked goods... "meh." Everything had that "bran muffin" vibe and too much cinnamon. Good GF stuff, to me, tastes just like its "gluten full" counterpart, not bran muffins. I spent way too much $$ on items I ended up not finishing. Cute place, and perhaps their sandwiches are better than their baked goods. I'll try that next time.

This was one of those rare find! I had the crabcakes my husband had the beef shank with red eye gravy and grits. Everything was delicious I would highly recommend to anyone who is gluten-free. No worries here. Then we stopped at their little coffee shop had a delicious coffee and a mint chocolate cookie, yummy!!

The Staff and food were amazing
Owner has celiac, totally gluten free facility. Delicious breakfast and brunch. We had cardamom French toast and the crab cake special. Both were amazing. Definitely recommend to celiacs and anyone looking for a good meal. Many tea and coffee options are available too.

Amazing coffee and paninis. So so baked goodies, but the coffee and paninis kept the review at five stars. Friendly staff and cute ambiance.

Super helpful staff and delicious food. Serving sizes are generous. I just wish I had more room to try their cake
Great stop, we drove a bit off course on our road trip to Asheville, NC and it was well worth it! Delicious Celiac safe meal!
Yes
Dedicated GF facility. Great coffee cookies and muffins. They even sell GF brownie/cookie/muffin mixes. Hot self- serve breakfast food.
I wanted to update this review to mention their new restaurant - The Happy Creek Eatery - that’s around the corner, 117 East Main St., Front Royal. It was Celiac friendly and menu options beyond paninis, with no gluten on the premises! Regarding the cafe: as a person with Celiac on a road trip, it was so very nice to find this dedicated GF spot for real food after car snacks for days! The sandwich bread on the panini was great; the potato soup was delicious. We also recommend their chocolate mint cookies and coffee -- everything was fresh.

Dedicated GF facility. Unfortunately we had already eaten lunch but we got some sweet treats for the road. The chocolate mint cookie was sooo good. Wish we were local to this spot.

Such an awesome spot. Perfect for stopping on a road trip. Yummy food and drink and totally safe. Back room is so quaint and has toys for kiddos to play with while you wait and eat. Can't wait to go back.

I've eaten there several times now, and have enjoyed every bite. The Cuban and Turkey Club paninis made a nice lunch for the road as I cruised the region. The cookies and muffins were yummy too! I froze some, and the texture might have crumbled a bit, but was still delicious. There is an oatmeal with various toppings type bar that I have not tried, nor have I tried the soups or chili. They're next on my list!

Love this place!! The owner has celiac and was very friendly/ helpful. They have coffee, sweets, muffins, sandwiches, etc. Great cafe!

Delicious GF panini's, great atmosphere 100% GF. Recommended.
This place is a safe haven in a world of cross contamination, it's a dedicated gluten free facility with paninis, baked goods and cold brews that are kegged and pushed with nitrogen (like a Guinness). Great seating area with cool tables and chill environment, free wifi and lots of power outlets. Pretty much our favorite place in Front Royal!
Wow! Totally GF cafe! It seems these kinds of places are rare on the East coast! The buffalo chicken panini is SO good. The biscotti are great to dip in the WONDERFUL coffee. A treasure for GF and non-GF patrons. Food does not suffer a bit being GF. Obsessed.
Top notch place. Was told by the owner that his wife has Celiac so he wanted a place they know they could go to and they go extra step to verify no contamination period. Great baked goods and sandwiches worth the trip if your any where near here.
Yes
100 % gluten free bakery! And delicious at that! They have an oatmeal bar with all kinds of toppings in addition to lots of baked goods.
really cute place and friendly. what a find when on a road trip.

Love this place!!!! The blueberry tea is awesome! It can be a little disorienting walking in as a newbie because everyone knows what they're doing. Haha but I loved the gf oatmeal bar, yogurt bar, and baked goods (peanut butter chocolate chip cake is out of this world!!) Great to go into a place and be able to get anything you want because it's 100% gluten free!!!
Yes
Great oatmeal bar! Delicious tea. My daughter tried the smoothies and said it was delicious! 100% GF!

Had the Valencia coffee and almond biscotti. The coffee was so smooth, zero bitterness, with a wonderful hint of orange. I've made my own gf biscotti, but their almond biscotti is the "real deal", perfect texture, flavor and crunch. Sorry I left without buying some roasted coffee to take home....next time!
