10/10!!! First time I’ve had sushi in 2 years. It was delicious. Due to health reasons, I can’t have raw sushi and every sushi place I visit in the US cooked rolls contain gluten (typically from the fake crab). Not here tho, they used real snow crab! I got the gourmet California roll and the crispy avocado roll. Both are GF and DF.
Elated to have GF tempura options, which are hard to find even in New York where I’m from. All GF items are marked on the menu, and they will wipe the kitchen down for you if you tell them cross contamination is an issue. Had the tempura shrimp, Hello Lobster roll, and Maui Wowie roll. Shared this with my non-GF family that agreed it was great!
I really wanted to like this place, but it was meh. Maybe I didn’t order well. I had the tempura, which is oily, heavy, and not very tasty. I also had some fish that was OK, not great. And I had some minor stomach issues after, which could just be sensitivity. I saw plates of sushi and sashimi being delivered to other tables that looked appealing. For myself, I would not go back.
Best GF sushi we've ever had. Several options with tempura! Recommend the tempura nori chip appetizer, tempura sweet potato roll, tempura lobster roll, avocado roll with tempura sprinkles, and the Maui wowie roll. Our server, who was terrific, had celiac so we felt totally safe in their care.
Out of the 3 places we ate at in Banff while we were there, Hello Sunshine was our favorite. Nice atmosphere inside, great gluten free options, and a knowledgeable and reassuring staff. We enjoyed two sushi rolls, the chicken karaage, and fried Brussels sprouts. I've had better chicken karaage at other places, but the sushi rolls and fried Brussels sprouts were delicious. My son is not gluten free and enjoyed the chicken ramen bowl. Definitely recommend.
Went to hello sunshine with a group of 9 people mixed celiac. Restaurant has the best variety of gluten free options with a well trained and knowledgeable staff. Deep fryer is gluten free and tempura is gluten free. Best celiac sushi experience to date.
Items clearly marked gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian on the menu. Miso soup is gluten free and SO GOOD!!! The server was very knowledgeable and asked me if press a sensitivity or celiac. They also informed that due to it being a shared kitchen they can't rule out accidental cross contamination (as I would expect when eating out). Because a lot of the food is shared, they also pointed out to me that my friends orders were NOT gluten free and I should not eat them. They have gluten free soy sauce as well.
Great gluten free options clearly marked on the menu & staff is highly knowledgeable about cross contamination. They have gluten free soy sauce, my base line for whether or not a sushi restaurant takes gluten free seriously or not. The manager assured me that he would make sure they used their celiac protocol with my order. Delicious sushi, sake, & cocktails.
