Update: Went back again and absolutely loved it!!!!! Previous (11/21): WOW!!!!!! I made a reservation over a month ahead of time and 9:30 & 10 pm were the only openings and WELL worth the wait! We had an excellent cheese board. We had the duck special for two which was fantastic. I had an awesome apple dessert. Their wine list is one of a kind. They made some kind gf substitutions for me. This is an expensive restaurant and well worth it.

Watched the cook grab fresh pans etc for my food. Waitress was very specific in delivery of my order.

The waitress went right through the menu and told me what I could do and not. She was so knowledgeable and helpful. I was super excited knowing that I was safe and the food WAS AMAZING. Go here. You won’t be disappointed.

Please do not take it for granted that they will give you a gluten free meal. Verify what is on your plate before eating! Please read this til the end if you go here. FYI I majorly specified I was celiac as soon as the waiter met us.

We were so excited to try this restaurant. After reading reviews on this site and trip advisor. We made a reservation for five pm as they were full afterward.

I ordered the carrot app and the hanger steak as my main medium well.

So the app had a potato from the fryer that I ate taking for granted that they were so careful and knew what they were doing. When I ordered it, i asked and the waitress assured me it was totally gluten free. To their credit they were extremely apologetic. Brought me a new one (sans gluten potato) and it was very tasty, but unfortunately thé damage had been done already and I ate cross contaminated food.

Then the steaks- mine was ordered medium my husbands ordered his medium rare. After eating the edges of mine I realized there was blood on the plate. And that it was rare - raw. My husbands was cooked medium (he doesn’t like it like that). I gave him mine but couldn’t eat his cause he was glutenous and his food was contaminated.

The waitress didn’t understand and wanted me to eat his, but I explained that he had eaten bread and his fork had touched his food as had his mouth. After I explained it she brought the manager. To their credit they comped our meal and we’re apologetic and kind.

But we didn’t enjoy it we were anxious. They offered us a desert but i just wanted to leave.

They were very apologetic. But I was sick the next day. I definitely got contaminated.

It was not a good experience. The food was tasty, but with their reputation and such a high caliber and price point, I am shocked they screwed up so badly.

They offered us to return to give them another chance but i am so turned off and honestly frightened of getting glutened and really am scared to.

I’m being honest and I’m trying to help someone else who may read all the positive reviews as I did and feel totally safe going there. I’m hoping that on a non off night they are celiac safe, but when I went, they were absolutely not.

They were very kind, they offered us to come back and comped our meal, but I got sick. It’s not worth it.

I have eaten at Hen of the Woods twice and had phenomenal experiences both times. The staff is thorough, knowledgeable and handled my many allergens remarkably smoothly. I had an appetizer and meal both times; everything was absolutely delicious, and most importantly, I felt great after my meal. I LOVE this restaurant!

The menu changes daily, so you don't know until you get there what the options will be for that night. We couldn't get reservations, so we went as soon as they opened and were able to sit at the bar. We started with a cheese plate that was fantastic. We split a duck breast dish (it was made for two people) with a side of potatoes and grilled zucchini. It was delicious!!! The staff was very knowledgeable about Celiac and very helpful in pointing us to what was safe to eat.

amazing food, incredibly cautious about gf. came back to tell us they would have to make a substitution because an ingredient may have been exposed to cross contamination in the factory.

Delish. No separate GF menu but the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and there were plenty of GF options. No problems for my sensitive celiac son. Fun that you could look into the kitchen and store room through windows. Restaurant was busy but service was great.

Great from start to finish! The kitchen is celiac-friendly. The wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, with up-front information on what can be made gluten-free and how some dishes would need to be prepared differently to avoid the risk of cross-contamination. (Note that our experiences at their Stowe location were just a positive.)

During our 2 1/2 hour meal, service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. The menu, drink program, and wine list offer a wide variety of choices to suit personal preferences. Each dish showed imagination and attention to detail, with surprising ingredient combinations that always worked.

I was super disappointed since I heard such great stuff about this place. My fish dish came out cold and was awful. My dad (who does not have allergies) really liked his meal. So maybe it's hit or miss.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in a while! Seasonally changing menu. Great food. They don't have a dedicated gluten free menu but the wait staff was very knowledgeable about what options were available gluten free. I even had a great poppy seed ice cream with lemon curd for dessert!!

I recently went to Hen of the Wood. They don't have a gluten free menu but the server went through the menu and let me know what was glutenfree. There was a good selection. I had the stake cream corn and peppers, and then cream brûlée.
