We went to this bakery as they list themselves as having gluten free items. When we went in, we enquired as to what they had that was gluten free. The woman behind the counter pointed at a back counter and added that she could heat the pre-packaged focaccia to make a sandwich. We bought some focaccia and cookies from the counter, began eating the cookies…and then noticed on the package that they contained gluten. We asked and were told that these items indeed had gluten. We had spent over $30 but decided to simply throw them away as my friend was more worried about the gluten consumption than the money. This is when things got weird. The baker came out where we were sitting and started yelling at my friend for throwing away her cookies, stated we had asked for gluten free focaccia (which we didn’t) and becoming quite belligerent. This went on for minutes. I’ve never been accosted for throwing away an item I’ve paid for, and I certainly have never been attacked for being served gluten filled food when I asked for gluten free. I understand that things can get lost in translation, but this was so ridiculously unprofessional and lacking in any understanding that eating gluten for a celiac is a serious issue. Do not go here.
