This place is under new management and it shows. The food and service has gone downhill.
It used to have limited GF items, but they were great. The GF menu has expanded, but the food I had was unsatisfying and the service was terrible. The non-GF eaters in my group weren’t happy either.
It is a pity, this used to be my favorite place in the Monterey area.
09/22: Because of this site, I found this restaurant. Because of their menu listing GF items, I ordered the salmon dinner to go. Because it was the best salmon I've ever had in my life, I had it a second night in a row. (The veggies were also delicious. They gave me a lovely salad instead of risotto.) No issues at all. I look forward to returning the next time I'm in the area.
04/23: Got salmon & veggies to go -- delicious. (Prices online were incorrect, though, so I recommend checking before ordering.)
Many gluten free options. Had the chicken Marsala which was tasty. The wait staff was very attentive. The only negative comment (reason for 4 rating instead of 5) is that they don't do subs on the side dishes. The entree I wanted had a side I didn't want which made me switch. I can't recall having this issue in any restaurant and found this a bit unusual for a higher end place.
Nice to have options with the menu being clearly labeled, but my filet was a bit overpriced for the quality (very fatty). Loved the atmosphere though!
Couldn't have been better. I had the rock cod, veggies and spinach salad. Lemon sorbet. Woke up feeling fine so no contamination.
As a local, Il Vecchio is one of my favorite go-to places. Warm, convivial and comfortable, nicely appointed tho not fancy. They seem knowledgeable about gluten and the menu has many GF options. Everything I've tried here has been wonderful - soups, polenta, meats, veggies, desserts. Prices are very moderate and the wine is affordable. Service is attentive and leisurely (i.e., they don't rush you). This place was a hit with locals from the start and lives up to the accolades. Warning: the daily Workers Lunch menu consists of salad and pasta dishes only, and certain evenings are "chefs choice" with no substitutions, so call ahead to be sure the GF menu is available, if you go.
For lunch during the week the only gluten free option is potato soup with salad.
Really good food, friendly casual atmosphere, and menu is clearly marked for gf and vegan.
I have celiac and had begun yo think i am not sensitive but eating out twice in Monterey I have been sick. They have Lots of choices. Delicious food. I had filet mignon with potatoes and a salad. Server kept saying allergy to flour. I explained wheat, barley and rye. Menu may say gluten free but I don't trust it.
This place is amazing! Food is the best I've had eating out in a long time. The staff members are educated on GF and know the menu well. Large selection across the menu and not one bad thing we tried. My husband and I enjoyed a zucchini appetizer, two orders of the chicken cacciatore, a side of broccoli, a side of Yukon potatoes, an order of limoncello gelato, two fruit drinks, and a glass of wine for under $70!!! Every bite was wonderful even though we were painfully stuffed afterwards. We will be going back even though its an hour away.
