They tried hard, but I still got a cross contamination bout after visiting. To be fair, it was 5:00, slammed in the lobby, drive through was wrapped around the corner, soccer tournament must have just ended. It was a mess, so I know changing gloves then is a major pain. It could be better not packed. But the part that made me nervous was as I ordered the kid yelled back "gluten allergy" with all kinds of giggling annoyance, then laughed at whatever the line said before turning back to me. So not a great vibe for care about allergy with that specific crew.
I was in the area and needed something quick, so decided to try In N Out for the first time. Personally, I don’t get the hype around In N Out overall, but at least it’s a safe option if you’re gluten free/Celiac. You pretty much can get everything on the menu besides a regular bun for burgers of course, which then you would just order your burgers as protein style. They mark your order as an “allergy” which made me feel more confident about ordering, especially while they’re busy.
Favorite place for gluten free double double protien style, fries and a shake. Good prices.
Everything but the buns! I've eaten here several times & not gotten sick. They understand cross contamination, & they repeat your order with allergy at each window. Order protein style for a fresh crunchy lettuce "bun" - fries are safe, animal or not!
I got a double- double and fries. I told them I had an allergy and to change their gloves. They made a note. I also asked for no grilled onions and sauce packets on the side to avoid CC. It was delicious, and I did not get sick. It was my first time trying, I think like any fast food joint it’s all dependent on the staff at the location.
As all In N Out locations I have been to, I have never gotten sick at this one in Escondido and the people working there are always very careful and considerate. I feel as safe as anyone can in a non-dedicated dacility. We often even go here over our local dedicated GF location because the burgers and fries are better and cheaper (and we don't eat burgers and fries for health..). Just make sure to order each item with "allergy to gluten". For the burger, the only GF alternative is "protein style" which means lettuce instead of a bun. If you specify gluten allergy they prepare it in a separate area with clean gloves etc.
