Ordered gluten free tacos. Mentioned gluten allergy. Definitely had a bad reaction to the chips from cross contamination. Not celiac safe
Had the mahi-mahi tacos on corn tortillas - did not get sick - the chips are fried in the same oil as flour tortillas but the gal at the counter warned me, good service. If you’re extremely sensitive I would be worried about cross contamination issues...
Had mahi mahi tacos and made sure to tell them I have celiac (I also said this is a gluten allergy, since allergies are the only thing people really understand). I did not get sick and the food was pretty good.
Before ordering, I asked the woman at the counter how the tacos were made, if the flour and corn tortillas ever touched. She said they did and asked if I was celiac. She went to the back where the kitchen was and told the chef that this order was for a celiac and he took care of the rest! The tacos were good. They were kind of expensive for the size, but the most important thing is that I didn’t get sick. I would recommend going at off-times so it’s not too busy and they can go slower and really pay attention to your order. It seems like the other reviews talk about misinformation and the staff not knowing about cross-contamination but it seemed as if they had learned and are really trying to do things safely.
While they do have lots of GF options (w corn tortillas), cross-contamination is definitely a possible issue. The cashier told us they had been busy and couldn’t guarantee against contamination. At least they were honest, but it was no go for celiac.
Despite previous reviews, the woman at the register said they cook corn tortillas in the same place as flour and she showed no concern about cross contamination. We didn’t get anything.
Yummy mahi mahi tacos. Knowledgeable about gluten free. They ask if you are celiac so they can assure no cross contamination. Super yummy and didn’t get sick
Chips were burnt. Very limited options for safe food.
Always 5 stars when the food is good and no one gets sick. The girl at the register didn't know what to do with us but the manager (owner?) asked if my daughter had Celiac and placed a special order for us. She talked to the kitchen so they could clean the grill and prepare her pork taco separately. Good food, and she stayed healthy on vacation.
Delicious food and accommodating staff! They offer corn tortillas and corn chips + salsa. They only will substitute the corn tortilla for the taco options, but the variety is enough that there's still multiple choices. My husband had the kalua pork and it was definitely the best! I tried the special which was Cajun shrimp + pineapple, which was also good.
Very friendly staff and willing to accommodate multiple allergies. Knowledgeable of what was in their food and the lady behind the counter made some recommendations. I have issues with both dairy and gluten (husband has dairy allergy) and we both were able to eat here. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos with papaya seed. Smoked pork was delicious too.
They have great food, they actually know what all of their food is made out of, they seem to understand cross contamination. I am an unusually sensitive celiac, and I usually don't eat out at all because of that. But I had heard enough good things about Island Taco that I thought it was worth the risk. I talked to the cook who knew exactly what was in everything, all the way down to the individual spices. The corn that they make their tortillas out of isn't certified gluten free, so I had the Kalua Pork on a plate with rice and beans instead. It was AWESOME! And I didn't get sick! Thank you, Island Taco!
Very knowledgable about celiac. Food was delicious!
What a great experience we had! We interacted with several people who all were knowledgeable about celiac and the importance of making sure that food was handled safely. They were very focused on avoiding cross contamination from the time they took our order until the time we left. The food was great too! We highly recommend eating here.
Took advice of another review and came here. Staff was very knowledgeable of gf menu items although no gf menu.tortilla chips, are not fried in separate dryer but corn tortillas available for their yummy shrink and fish tacos. They were willing to change their gloves for me upon asking. Great attitude, yummy, hearty filling food.
