I’ve eaten takeout here several times and not gotten sick. As a KC native jack stacks was always good but never quite my favorite. However, after my celiac diagnosis, I go here often and love being able to eat bbq again! They seem to be relatively well informed on cross contact.
Note, not all sides are GF, such as fries; check the menu.
Most meat, sauces, dressings, and sides are gluten free. Well marked menu and informed servers. Had the spinach salad and family style round up (ribs, brisket, turkey, pulled pork, cheesy corn bake, hickory beans, and potato salad) Everything was delicious! The ribs were my favorite with beans, brisket and potato salad close seconds. Next time I will skip the cheesy corn bake -- it was corn kernels in a mac and cheese sauce soup. TIP: If ordering a combo plate get two half sides.
Our waitress was so great and knowledgeable. I had a gluten free menu that you use to check what has gluten and what doesn’t on the main menu. Most of their sauces are gluten free. I ordered a pick 2 and had pulled pork and burnt ends. I substituted the sides for a baked potato. My husband ordered wings and the waitress double checked and warned me the wings had gluten in them. (In case I was going to try one) I felt very taken care of and safe.
Amazing!! We ordered the Taste of KC easily feeds 6 people and we were able to get the gluten free stuff separated from the not gluten free which was the wings and fries. Great experience! I suggest making reservations!
I ate here tonight with my celiac daughter. We had noted the need for a GF menu with my reservation through Open Table, and they were great about including it when we sat down. They provided a gluten free item list so we could cross reference the kids menu and full menu. It also includes options for modifications to make regular items GF. Lastly the person who sat us did a great job of highlighting that the fries and wings would be cross contaminated in the fryer. Our server also made sure that my daughters chicken was not served on the same plate as fries (for her sister). Over all they were great and attentive!
This was our first experience at Jack Stack’s as we are from Nashville, TN. We were traveling through KC and stopped to see a friend who told me about burnt ends…something I had never heard of even though Nashville has plenty of barbecue. The burnt ends didn’t have the crispness my friend described but they were so very tender. My husband had the pork spare ribs and they were excellent. Another big plus was the accommodation of my gluten-allergy. Morning after dinner I feel fine! Our server was very knowledgeable and a great server…a young gal going to community college before she goes off to Oklahoma University.
GF rating: 5. Taste rating: 5. This was our first trip to KC, and our host suggested this as a good place for BBQ. Delicious and safe. The manager came out when she heard we had gluten concerns to discuss the menu. Like most places they can't guarantee to cross contamination, but they seem to be quite careful. Almost all the BBQ is GF, as are all the various sauces. The sliced meats are great, and the burnt ends are fantastic. We had a spinach salad to cut all the meet, and it was also very tasty.
The staff was very knowledgeable about what had gluten in it and were very accommodating! The waiter assured me that the kitchen staff would change gloves when they saw an allergen listed. The food was fantastic and all of the sauces are gluten free, the main accommodations were ordering no bread or bun.
DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE A CELIAC
I clearly stated that I was gluten free. My plate showed up with GLUTENOUS bread on it. The waiters and managers are beyond clueless.
When I finally got a dish without bread on it, it was mediocre and way overpriced.
To further my disappointment, I ran to the bathroom half an hour later. Glutened. The two other Celiac's in my party were not far behind.
Miserable experience all around.
Amazing, visiting from Omaha and I wish we had a place like this...great bbq and amazing service for a Celiac. Manager was right at the table explaining how the protocols worked and made my son feel safe which is incredibly rare and welcome!
Fabulous service. Immediately after I requested a GF menu, the manager personally came out to speak with me, communicated with the chef, and then checked back in. All sauces and dressings are GF, there are many menu items from which to choose!
Gave specific instructions (wash hands, clean area, etc) and still got sick. Staff seemed knowledgeable but seems to deal with people who are mostly gluten sensitive (not celiac). Very busy and large kitchen and staff, so there's a lot of opportunity for things to go wrong (cross-contamination). Don't take the risk if you have Celiac.
Ate here twice on vacation. Had great luck both times. The manager double checked with me to make sure I understood where the greatest cross contamination risks were and gave me ideas of what would be safe (all meats and BBQ).
One of my fav GF places of all time. Lots of delicious options!!
Server was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. My Crown Prime Beef Rib was delicious and so was the Cheesy Corn Bake. They have a laminated and double sided allergen listing that was very helpful in ordering in picking the GF items. My partner liked her Spinach Salad.
