Staff very knowledgeable. Every time a dish was brought out, they mad sure to let me know it was gluten free. Had lettuce cups, nigiri and sashimi, spicy tuna and lasagna sunset sushi roll, and a Mai Tai. Only a few sushi rolls were listed as GF on menu, but I didn't inquire to see if others could be modified to be GF.

We had a great dinner here! The food was good (expensive of course) but there were plenty of options for me. We had the steak bites as an appetizer and I had the Lahaina Roll for sushi. Didn’t have any issues!

Great experience here! Server was super knowledgeable about celiac and was very on top of it. We got the steak noodles and lettuce cups and they were absolutely delicious!!

Server was very attentive. She suggested not doing the sushi since it was more susceptible to cross contamination, but I got the steak tips and rice and it was delicious!!

Love this spot! My server was very knowledgeable and was kind enough to ask the chef if he could make me a special GF entree that wasn’t on the menu. Many menu items were able to be made gluten free here. They also had GF tamari soy sauce!! Me and my mom shared the steak bites, lettuce cups and fried rice (without pork and shrimp to make it GF) and it was all delicious. 10/10 would recommend!

Expensive but excellent GF options and knowledgeable staff. Most sushi, sashimi, and Nigiri are GF. They have GF Tamari sauce to replace soy sauce. Many options can be made GF. Not sure why some reviewers said there weren’t many options?!

After reading previous reviews, I’m super bummed I didn’t have a pleasant experience. I informed my waiter multiple times that I have Celiac Disease and have to eat gluten free. I ordered the filet of beef which on the menu stated it was gluten free. It came out with crispy onions on top. I asked the food runner if the onions were gluten free. He was unsure so he asked the kitchen and came back to tell me no, that I cannot eat the meal. A new meal was being made, which arrived medium rare even though I ordered my steak medium. I did not send it back in fear of cross contamination. No manager came out to apologize or to offer a discount. Japengo has good reviews online for those with dietary restrictions so I am extremely disappointed with my experience.

The menu clearly marked what is gluten free which made it easy for my daughter who has Celiac. There were lots of good options and my daughter enjoyed her meal. Definitely a great experience!

Not a ton of options. Food was really good but we really wanted to try sushi and that was near impossible.

Plenty of gluten free sushi options as well as some other menu items. The Kaanapali Roll was so good that I went back a few nights later just for that.

Sushi was good, but the other items we ordered (curry rice and vegetable sides) were only ok & overpriced. They offer tamari sauce with the sushi, but beyond that I found the service to be lacking. Based on the other reviews I was expecting more. Would not return.

Menu very clearly states what is and isn’t gluten free. They also state what can be made gf. Were very aware of the allergy and accommodating.

There were a lot of options on the menu. They use different dishes for gluten free versions of dishes. We did have one meal at opening where the server was covering a lot of tables where we had to confirm whether the soy sauce brought out was the gluten free tamari (it was not).
I had California Rolls several times because, where we live, actual crab is a rarity. The fresh Mahi Mahi was great and the China Town Chow Fun. Several meals can be ordered in the half size so you can share, try more than one, or have some sushi with dinner. It was all very tasty.

Tasty, a lot of good options. We had sushi, fried rice, and chow fun seafood noodles. Beautiful restaurant and good service.
Have their own GF menu, and was so nice for my daughter to have California rolls again, with extra crab on top! Had a very good GF dessert as well.

Great food, but limited menu for GF. Ordered veggie roll, vegetable fried rice, and wok tossed vegetables with tofu. Huge portions!

I had sushi with GF tamari and they confirmed the wasabi is GF. We sat at the bar cause we didn't have a reservation so it would have been hours to wait. Once I told the bartender I am celiac, he assured me they were careful, and he was watching out for me as another staff member took my coconut creme brule (amazing!) order but didn't flag it as GF, but the bartender noticed and changed the order and told me he had done so. Really nice atmosphere, live music. ALittle bit difficult to find, it is at the Hyatt, if you are not a guest park in the public beach parking (available only till 8pm) and walk to the end of the road to the Hyatt and Japengos is out behind, so it takes a little looking to find.

Amazing! The server was very helpful and understanding. The sushi was incredible.

Generally good about gluten free and they have a nice GF menu. They understand cross-contamination and what celiac is. However, waitress brought out non-GF soy sauce for us after we states that there were two celiacs at the table. We only found out it wasn't tamari because we confirmed a suspicion with her before using. She was mortified (and busy), but it still happened. Also, busser served my celiac dad my non-celiac husband's plate of ribs and said they were gluten free (they definitely were not--luckily we knew this).
Overall, good about GF but not as great as other reviews state and other restaurants in Maui are. You'd most likely be okay, but there are better GF restaurants.
Otherwise, food and service were good, but overrated.

An absolute must for anyone celiac visiting Maui! The sushi is fresh and super tasty. The entire staff is very knowledgeable about gluten-free issues. The restaurant has a dedicated gluten-free menu including sushi rolls (both of which I ordered) and they were delicious. They have Tamari soy sauce which is gluten free and delicious. I did not however ask whether the wasabi was made with corn starch or wheat starch so if you are a wasabi eater make sure to check. This place has hands down the best gluten free dessert, coconut creme brûlée! After four days of having sherbet as the only dessert option I was pleasantly surprised to have such a fantastic option! I highly recommend!
Pricy but good! GF soy sauce

The best gluten free meal I had all of Hawaii! The service is fast and everyone there is so nice. We flew in late that day and the servers did everything they could just so we could eat there. The gluten free dessert is by far the best gluten free dessert I have ever had since finding out I had celiacs. To top it off, they even have gluten free soy sauce. This is by far the best place to dine for gluten free illnesses!

This is a pan-fusion place that is perfect for a romantic meal. They have a great GF menu with a *lot* of selection. We had sushi (and they brought out GF tamari for me), and then I had an AMAZING GF seafood noodle soup. One of my favorite places to eat in Maui!
