This place is a dream come true for people who eat gluten free. The GF pretzel roll cheesesteaks are amazing. I also highly recommend the GF chicken fingers. Good enough for a special trip in you don’t live in the area. You will not be disappointed.
First time I’ve had a cheesesteak and pizza fries since being diagnosed with celiac about 5 years ago. I tried the pretzel roll steak. Honestly It wasn’t bad, but I had wished I had just gotten it on their regular gf roll (next time). I just wasn’t a huge fan of the combination, but glad I tried it. The pizza fries were kind of soggy, and the cheese wasn’t fully melted. My kids got an order of regular fries and those too were soggy (they need to cook them longer). Next time we will ask for them to be well done. I also tried my kids’ chicken fingers. Again these were a bit soggy, when chicken fingers should be crispy. We also weren’t big fans of the taste of the breading (or perhaps the oil they were cooked in). So why 4-stars? The selection is outstanding, they have a separate gf cook area and dedicated fryer, Jay is very nice, and the soggy issue can be resolved simply by asking them to cook the deep fried items longer. Looking forward to trying an Italian hoagie next time!
We love Jay's! He is always adding awesome gluten free items to the menu! He recently started making GF pretzel rolls, and now he's working on GF cheddar pretzel rolls! This place is about 40 minutes from our house, but we make the drive regularly. He uses a dedicated kitchen space and fryer. My gluten eating family members also love it here. Affordable as well. Thank you, Jay!!!
Love, Love, Love the new GF pretzel Roll. I have been ordering at Jays for GF for years. He has always had a great selection and delicious food for me. I love that he is constantly adding to and improving the GF menu. Jay really looks out for those of us with Celiacs with his dedicated kitchen space and drive to make sure that his team is fully trained to handle Gluten Free orders when he is no there. Did you know that Jay also donates a portion of his sales of Pretzel rolls to feed the needy? All around great choice to eat here! You will not be disappointed!
This is about as close as you’re going to get to a steak sammich around here. Prices are steep, but don’t forget that regular wheat rolls are insanely cheap to start with so a few $ premium for a GF roll isn’t a big deal. I recommend going while the sun is shining first time. It’s in a rural/residential area with limited parking.
Amazing!!! I don’t know the last time my husband who has celiacs was able to have a real cheesesteak...this place is worth the trip no matter where you’re from. So fresh, so delicious. I’ve had both the regular cheesesteak and the gluten free buffalo chicken cheesesteak and was not disappointed! The fries are incredible too - fresh and hot and not greasy at all. We will be regular customers for sure!
I found Jay’s about 5 years ago when I was visiting family in Philadelphia googling for a gluten free cheesesteak. I low key cried tears of joy the first time I had one. He uses against the grain rolls (yaasss) and you can eat safely with your gluten eating friends and family as they have a completely separate prep/cook area for those with celiac or an allergy. He also has gluten free chicken tenders if you’re not in the mood for a steak or hoagie. It’s a must try if you’re in the area!!!
This place is amazing! We were greeted immediately by the owner who shared all the precautions they take to make sure his celiac customers are eating safely. They are so safe and so careful. Dedicated kitchen space! The gluten free steak sandwich was huge! Yes huge! And everything was delicious! This is a must go to!
Jay’s is my new favorite take out spot, I’ve been going at least once a week! A huge chunk of the kitchen space is dedicated gf, the girl behind the counter was kind enough to let me take a peek to ease my mind, she was super knowledgeable and helpful! My boyfriend is non-gf and they always make sure to put our food in separate bags. I don’t know if it’s the time we go, but the service is always quick, foods always ready within 15 minutes of ordering. It is mainly a takeout place as they only have a table or two inside, but it looks like they have an area outside with more seating for when the weather gets nice! Everything is absolutely delicious and I feel 100% safe eating here. Ps. Jay’s is known for their pretzel roll (not gf), which from what I understand is pretty bangin, and Jay is now working on making a gf version!!! I was lucky enough to stop by on a day he was experimenting and was able to have a sample. Best gf roll EVER and I hope they add it to the menu as a permanent item!
Just go! No need to read all the reviews, they will all say Jay’s is awesome and everyone is right. Best bread, best cheesesteak, chicken tenders, and everything else Jay serves as GF. So stop looking and get out to Jay’s and enjoy some great GF food!
Absolutely my favorite gluten free place ever. I have no problem driving almost 2 hours just to get a safe sandwich and fried. Jay and his safe are always so friendly and make truly care about celiac safety. The pulled pork and chicken Parmesan subs are amazing.
Saw reviews and tried this place while out of town and a so glad that I did. Had a great experience with staff and enjoyed the variety of GF options. Enjoyed the chicken cheesesteak heated up the next day, too. Planning on going back before I leave town to stock my cooler for the road.
The whole family is gluten-free. They have a dedicated fryer and a dedicated gluten free kitchen area. The owner really understands Celiac and cross contamination. We live 3 hours away but will be back. The food is worth the drive!! Best cheesesteak ever!
Great GF food and knowledgable staff!!! Its about time we finally found a great cheesesteak place that has great GF rolls!! Also, the GF rolls are huge!! Like when I used to be able to eat regular Philly Cheesesteaks!! Large selection of GF items as well. Jay’s is awesome!! My kids and I have Celiacs and none of us got sick.
What a find. Just a few miles off of the PA Turnpike (Route 276) heading North on Route 1. Jay’s is a tiny little place with gargantuan flavor. How often do you come across a Crliac friendly place for pizza, hoagies and steak sandwiches? I highly recommend Jay’s.
Jay was friendly, knowledgeable, and REAL. He has a dedicated GF area for cooking and prep, he understands how serious cross contamination can be, and makes one hell of a cheesesteak. Now a GF roll will never be exactly like a regular roll but my steak was delicious and so big that I was able to make 2 meals out of it. THANKS JAY! We will definitely be back.
Staff is friendly and we met Jay himself! What a great product! Visitng from Atlanta and didn’t think we could enjoy a cheesesteak, but no! We could and we did! Absolutely delicious! 1/3 kitchen dedicated gf and very knowledgeable staff. Heaven in a roll!
Omg....go!!!! I have not had a chicken cheese steak in literally 5 years. And I had one today here!!!! Jay was unbelievable! He came right to the counter to talk to me and put me at 100% ease. He knows what he is doing and is completely aware of cross contamination. I had a chicken cheese steak and fries. NO issues. I feel great and felt so normal eating my lunch. There is one table and a few chairs, so we ate in our car. Didn’t care....delicious and safe. Go!!!!!
We recently went to Jay's for our son, who has several allergies (milk, egg, wheat, peanut, and tree nut), because of the gluten free items. Although, still limited because of his other allergies, he safely ate the fries and chicken fingers and enjoyed them both. The staff when we called was more than helpful in being able to tell us what items he could have, and also assuring us that the fries and chicken fingers were made without his allergens. In addition, when I arrived, I wanted to confirm with one of the cooks, that his food didn't contain wheat or eggs, and Jay nicely stepped out from the kitchen (on a busy Saturday night around dinner time), took the time to talk to me about the food and made me feel safe in knowing that my son would be able to eat without any problems. I can't give this place enough stars for having something my son can actually enjoy from somewhere other than our kitchen.
Gotta love a place that takes gluten free safety seriously AND makes incredible food (not just good for gluten free, but flat out GOOD). The Philly was awesome (of course), but I was super crazy about the breakfast sandwich. The bread is Against the Grain which is a perfect match for the hearty fillings. My non-GF husband also said the pretzel bun was amazing.
