Amazing food and great service! I used to love Jersey Mike's before I discovered my allergy, and I'm glad that I can still eat it! In fact, I prefer the rosemary gluten-free bread to the ordinary sub. A worker was extremely helpful, allowing us to purchase an additional roll to take home. I look forward to returning to Jersey Mike's.
I went to this Jersey Mikes on Saturday 1/13/18. They were SO courteous & understanding of my GF needs due to being celiac. They scrubbed the meat slicer, made my sandwich on paper, toppings came from a separate cooler. Due to the time they take to try to create a GF experience, I would recommend going during non-busy times. Personally I feel bad making other people wait because of my needs, especially if it’s a busy lunch time etc.
The bread is udis it was pretty dry. The staff changed gloves wiped down the counters and meat cutter all though they told me all their meat if gf. They made the sandwich on parchment paper. I had them get me fresh lettuce from the back that wasn’t cross contaminated. It was a bit of a process so if you arrived when it was busy that could be stressful. The staff was friendly. It was nice to have an option of a sub.
The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Gave suggestions for best results. They do use udis bread and it didn’t hold up too well for the price but the sandwich was tasty. They do their other breads on the grill so cold sandwiches are better for cross contamination. The convenience was a high point!
Staff seemed newly trained on GF issues. They were trying really hard to not cross contaminate. They were incredibly slow. It was a Sat night, so they were super busy. Adding the GF element to my sandwich seemed to put a kink in things. Took us 30 min to get 3 subs and only 1 was GF! Sub was alright. I just wouldn’t go at a busy time.
Super knowledgeable about CC. They put all the toppings on separately from the back. 10/10
Staff was great they cleaned everything, even the meat slicer. They used a separate mayo and cutting board. They seemed to be aware of allergy precautions. They did use the regular veggies so I will wait to decide if it is totally safe of not. So far so good. Tasted great and the sub was huge! The gf sub bread was a bit grainy in texture and started to fall apart near the end of my sub but that is pretty normal for gf bread. Overall I would recommend them and will probably eat here again.
Drove 30 min for gf sub. No precut meats or veg so changing gloves does NOTHING to prevent cross contamination for Celiacs. Gloves that have handled bread are grabbing meats and precut veg. Didn't even order and walked out. Server had no idea about safe handling of gf food. CELIACS DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE!!!
I was so impressed with how thoroughly they cleaned all of their equipment and counters when I asked for their sand which on a GF sub. It tasted as good as their non-GF bread options and I didn’t feel sick afterwards. I will be returning here, great place.
Not celiac friendly... here is how the visit went. I spoke to the employees and asked if they would be able to prepare an Italian gluten free sub without cross contamination. They said they would wipe everything down and prepare the GF sub by itself on the cleaned line, change their gloves, use a clean knife, and place the GF bun on parchment paper and its own cutting board. They did everything as stated. All employees involved with my sub changed their gloves and the meat slicer was wiped down thoroughly. Up to this point I was feeling pretty good about things and was appreciating their efforts. Then it was time for toppings... and disappointment. They grabbed lettuce and tomatoes from the same tubs they had been grabbing from while preparing regular subs. This involved handling regular bread, picking up a stack of tomatoes, putting a few slices on a sub, then putting the rest back... all now cross-contaminated. The lettuce and other toppings were the same. None are safe with the way they are being handled. You might do okay if you didn't get any toppings, but this particular Jersey Mike's does not have it right. I don't know if it is a training issue or not. It is disappointing because they are trying to do it right. Unfortunately, for celiac is do or do not, there is no try. One final note, I did test a small piece of each ingredient on the sub with my Nima sensor and it did not find any gluten. I still did not eat it since such a small sample is unlikely to catch cross contamination. I gave two stars instead of one for their efforts.
They now have gluten-free bread nationwide! They have been very good about changing gloves and serving uncontaminated bowls. Occasionally a new person needs more training. But I’ve been going here for years and it’s one of my go-to places. Great subs and friendly staff.
just found out they have gf sub rolls! I haven't had a sub in 7years! I've no cross contamination and last time I went they used the wrong knife to cut my sub. another employee spotted the mistake and made me a new sub. thanks so much for that.
Jersey Mike’s has just started to carry GF Udi’s sub buns. They took great care to make sure my food was safe for me. They Made my sandwich on a different counter and used different utensils. There was even a chart on the wall for proper steps to take for the GF breads and how to prepare them for the customer. The gentleman who made my sandwich was super nice and knowledgeable of the proper procedures! Can’t wait to come back again.
Sandwich was good. Nothing special but was nice to have a quick option. All sizes available n multiple sandwich options. I’m extremely sensitive and expressed my concern to the woman at the counter. She was extremely accommodating, careful, and kind. I did choose to go at a very slow time (3pm) so that helped as well. Will definitely go again.
They tried, they really did, but they did what they were told; they don’t understand. They cleaned the slicer, changed gloves, put down paper and had a clean knife. I had a only a slight reaction, but that’s probably because I stopped him before he added the tomatoes, lettuce and mayo, because I could see bread crumbs in the lettuce bin. I had meat, cheese and the GF roll.
I've never been to a Jersey Mike's before, so I don't know what their normal food handling protocols are. I got an email saying they went gf nationwide, so I went and told the person taking my order that I had Celiac's. They use prewrapped Udi's rolls, prepare your sub on parchment paper, and use separate utensils from what they normally use. The girl cut my roll with the regular knife first, realized her mistake, tossed the roll and parchment paper, changed her gloves, and started fresh. I didn't get sick and thought my sub was very yummy!! I had no idea they cut the meats and cheeses fresh for each sub! Oh man, have I missed subs!!
My kids were so excited to add subs back into their diet! Jersey Mike's is very careful with their gluten free orders and fix everything in back away, from the main line. It does take a little longer, but well worth the wait. One tip: adding oil to the sub makes the bread fall apart quicker.
Gluten free bread in two sizes. Online menu gives a clear description of allergens. They used different knives to cut, felt safe, and staff was knowledgeable. It’s been a long time since I had a cheesesteak!!! Very good!
GF Udi ’s bread is a new menu addition. I am not celiac, but the staff wiped down the slicing machines, used an area away to slice bread and it shows they have received training and took it seriously. That being said, this is a sandwich shop.. so I would personally expect bread crumbs etc no matter how much Care is taken.
I called ahead of time to ask them what their procedure was for their gluten-free sandwiches they asked if it was for an allergy or not and I told them it was for celiac they were happy to answer any questions I had. when we got to the shop the manager personally made her sandwich had everybody else step back from the line and did not allow any other sandwiches to be made until my daughter's was wrapped and bagged. they cut her fresh tomato and they use meat and cheese that had not been previously on the slicer. all the condiments for the gluten-free sandwiches are in squeeze bottles and they have separate knives they use only for the gluten free. all in all we had a very good experience
I just tried a GF sandwich yesterday and it was delicious! It's individually wrapped Udis rolls. Can get a regular size or large- no mini. The person making the sandwich wiped down the meat slicing machine and crumbs off the counter, made the sandwich on a wrapper, changes gloves and used dedicated knife for it. While waiting to check out I heard him also asking the other staff about it, ensuring they know why he did all that and what protocol to follow. I'd still suggest Celiac friends watch to ensure the food prepper takes precautions. The actual bun was tasty!! Held up well, didn't fall apart like some GF breads.
